He got caught by the kick but if you watch the entirety of the fight there’s no KO, just a knock down
@augoosto11
@augoosto11 4 месяца назад
So, initially, I was totally wrong. I mis-remembered the fight because the years of seeing that clip in highlights had me remembering that as a knock down. So, I re-watched the fight to see if it was what I remembered (and to try and find material I could use to make it look like I wasn't wrong). It wasn't a KO though like you said. However, there were multiple situations in that round after the kick where Benson was eating nearly 10 seconds of unanswered shots on the ground. I truly believe a modern MMA ref would've called the fight more than once in that round and it would've been chalked a TKO.

I don't understand the constant compliments for strikes that did not land. These commentators got excited when Henderson through a four punch combo. The problem is none of them landed. Then there was un uppercut/cross combination, and another commentator said, "Ooh, that was nice". Again, the combination did not land. It does not matter how well you throw a punch until that punch lands. I thought Henderson had won 3 rounds to 2, but if you go by the 6th alone, Pettis won. Especially since Henderson should have lost a point in that 6th, it was his third kick to Pettis' pomegranates.

@@SolusFather Facts and so many shots were glancing, didn't land clean, or landed an the arm or chest. Plus everyone knows strike stats are rarely ever accurate dude cmon. Benson took that imho.

The problem with benson is like most of the time he strikes its like at the last moment he wants to pull back. Its like punching scared. Its weird. Same habit he does when he was still in mma.

Some people don't like being punched In the face too much. And Pettis got KO power, remember the superman punch against Wonderboy

Idk, it’s not unfortunate in my eyes, but kind of beautiful. The young guns meeting again and, yes being slower and a little busted, put on a great show as the old lions. Neither was brutally ko’d and each fight builds on their legacy. Nothing lasts forever.

The last round rule is really stupid . Mainly because it should not have gone to a final round, Henderson clearly won and then he performed worse in the final round , so what
@BestPropTutorials

Ya, that was the only thing I thought was weird as well. It was a close fight but Benson was generally the better looking fighter
@vipe650r

I have to agree. Even having a sudden death round if necessary, it clearly wasn't necessary. The difference in control, activity, effective strikes, etc. seemed quite clearly significant in Henderson's favor. I don't understand that decision at all.
@Matt-ou2ns

I like the extension round but for this fight I feel it wasn’t necessary. We do extension rounds in Kyokushin if it’s to close to make a decision but it doesn’t cancel out all the previous rounds. I don’t like how they do that here.

I think it comes down to the hair. If you’re constantly thinking of tucking your hair… those are constantly reoccurring moments where you have to give attention to a non essential part of your combative objective. Like in all of sports; outcomes can be determined by split second reaction and decision making times. I think this mode is hindered by constantly adjusting gear, i.e. loose fitting shorts or long hair needing to be tucked while in that moment, an offensive strike could be offered instead, or a block or counter if a threat is incoming. Advantage goes to Pettis for having no hair to tuck or loose fitting clothes to adjust; thus allowing him full concentration and attention on the combative task at hand.
