The shooting wasn't the -2 fight IQ part. We know he shot because his legs were getting so eaten up. We want to know why he would shoot a double leg straight into a guillotine and then keep going for the takedown instead of fighting the hands around your throat. And then fall straight forward on top of him instead of driving him sideways and getting off to the side so you can escape the guillotine once on the ground instead of making it tighter. The takedown was reasonable. The execution of the takedown was dumb for an experienced fighter. You only have to try that a couple times and get choked out for it to learn that. It was literally the first thing I learned after one live roll of BJJ as a first day white belt. Don't go for a double leg and take them down straight backwards if they have ahold of your neck. If doesn't get you back points and they are allowed to choke you and you will get stuck there amd they will choke you.

Khalil has looked amazing recently. Did he go disappear to train in Thailand before his resurgence? Smith came in on short notice unprepared for the Khalil fight. Most people thought it was a bad idea for him, and they were right. He would have had hisbwork cut out for him againsy that version of Khalil even if he was fully prepared and at his prime.

He would probably be better off focusing all of his energy on his behind the desk job. He is good at it and would be better liked as an analyst if he wasn't an active fighter. He is almost washed as a ranked fighter anyways and is only getting older. I think he realizes this as well and just keeps doing it because he enjoys it and still has a little bit left in the tank. Same with Dom and Felder. If they still have the fire to keep competing at a high level when they have cushy full time jobs that pay well in the same field and where they don't have to get beat up, then more power to them. That's an impressive love of the sport. They aren't even doing it for the money at that point. They are putting themselves through hell preparing for a professional fight just because they enjoy it and because they still have confidence that they can win against the best in the world. Very few people could or would do that.

I'm pretty sure his fight pay is a decent house worth of money every time especially when he wins.

Smith has never been the most talented or athletic fighter in his division, but he has been a very solid fighter his entire, long career. He takes on anybody and never quits, even when he's outgunned. He could have took the belt and made himself a lot of money for the illegal knee by Jones and he didn't. That alone should get you a lot more respect from fans.
