No he hasn't. He has faced preseason pitching. He struggled in AAA for the 99 at bats he had. Pre season pitching versus mid season pitching like Peraza faced are two different things. Peraza will be the starting SS. No comparison.

Have to remember that a lot of pitching they're facing are pitchers that aren't major league ready players at the moment. It's like a QB playing against 3rd stringers in the last preseason game.
Jasson Dominguez impressed me a lot in spring training. I have no issue with him starting in triple-a. This is a step in the right direction for his development. He’s 20 years old. If he continues to do what he did in spring training in double-a & triple-a this year, he’s gonna get called up. He’s that good.
When the Yankees got Bader i looked at his career stats and was disappointed to see he had never had more then 380 at bats in his entire career in the majors - and he is 28 going on 29 - so i thought this was an indicator that he was often injured -- i do not understand how Cashman and his analytics team miss these issues -- and please tell me how did Frankie Montas pass his physical with Yankee team doctors? He will be out for quite awhile due to it being an oblique injury.
Volpe should start and play everyday -- Yankees will now have to start German and Schmidt -- remember Yankees got off to a hot start last season and then cooled down after All Star break playing .500 or sub .500 ball -- odds are they do not win the division.
Let Vople stay . In fact as crazy as it sounds consider Dominguez also. Teams use to play young guys all the time. The Braves did it last year and those guys did great. This organization needs to think out of the box. These kids are raking they show no fear and play their asses off. The future is here. I thought everyone was saying he didn't have the arm to be a shortstop. So does this mean they are going to move Gleyber for a starter? Or did they change their minds? Because Peraza can pick it and his bat looked good last year but not yet this spring. Still a couple weeks to go.
Volpe should make the team over Gleyber Torres. Trade Torres for a left fielder or pitching. Gleyber is a solid player but volpe is faster and has much better potential
Kay is on point. Gleyber being a prime trade candidate right now is an uncomfortable truth. We have too many infielders, not enough pitchers, and we can replace him with a very capable 2B very soon under team control who won't need a big $25mil per year contract.
The fact that this is still a discussion in the organization is sad this kid has outplayed IKF and Donaldson and they are still questioning should he get starting role.
Because he's gonna be at short or second in all likelihood. IKF doesn't even factor in, its Perazas job to lose. So Volpes actual competition is Peraza at short and Torres at second.

If the 2020 season happened, bitch Dominguez and Volpe would be either in the majors or due for early season promotion.

I just don’t think it’s a sign the team is wasting them or that there’s no benefit to having them, at least, start the year in the minors. Dominguez looks like a major leaguer at the plate, but he still needs to work on defense a bit.
Without trades or injuries to infielders Volpe won’t make this team, unless they send Peraza down which I don’t think is likely based on what they’ve said, or being reported they said. If they trade Torres maybe and if Torres is not going to be extended he absolutely should be traded now. Two years of control is valuable to a team trading for him.
Really not sure why all the talk about trading Torres. He's probably in the top 5 players you have on your roster and is only 26. Why does Kay think Torres is going to command a contract of 25mill per. He's not going to cost that much. And even if he does, wouldn't you rather pay 25mill to Torres instead of that stiff Donaldson?

It’s a given that $25 M man Josh Donaldson will start at 3b and the recently resigned $6 M IKF will be at ss. Incumbent Gleyber Torres will be at 2b with Rizzo at 1b. Utility man DJ LeMahieu will play at either 2b or 3b every third game. Volpe will be their second utility infielder. Perazza and the Martian will go to AAA. Cabrera and Hicks will be at lf and cf respectively. Judge and Stanton will patrol rf.
Whats this obsession with the 40 man? The Yankees can create 3 spots with the snap of their fingers by putting Montas, Effross and Gil on the 60 day IL. The 40 man is a non issue.
Anthony Volpe is more than ready. He is the starting shortstop Yankees desperately need. IKF needs to be traded asap. Bader is injured and next up should be Jasson Dominguez starting centerfield.

I think this is a fucking no brainer, why the hell would you start the season with Donaldson at 3rd, ikf at short and hicks in the outfield. It’s insane. You have to go with Cabrera/dominguez left, peraza at short, volpe at 2b or 3rd, and DJ at 2nd or 3rd and you keep Cabrera in case DJ goes down again to fill the infield.
Yeah but for the outfield you have Dominguez is doing great.....its a S answer saying hes not playing because he has not playing in Triple A..... a lot of player have skip levels and be great....

The Martian has no shot until Sept of '24 (he really seems to have some star talent--performs better at higher levels). Torres has to be moved for pitching. Peraza, btw, would make a heck of a 3rd baseman.
Yankees are afraid to play prospects. Judge is the only one since 2016 still on the team. They have no patience with prospects, they would rather trade them away for mediocre players who are gone in a year.
Volpe's only competition is IKF and Torres. He has a great chance to make the roster but will management do it, probably not. We're not smart enough to put this guy in.

Because there were three options to legitimately upgrade, one was Rodon and the other two were injury prone DeGrom and a near 40 year old Verlander. And the team HAD to upgrade the rotation.

Volpe did not have a great 2022. Look at his wRC+. Progressively worse at each level. Don't rush him. A whole year at AAA would do wonders. He'd can hit the ground running in 2024. Be patient and it will pay off in the long run. Yanks are going to struggle this year anyway. Last year for Boone & Cashman ?
