The most perfect 'up yours' to all the opera snobs who believe it must be seriously done in Italian, French or German or it's worthless ... and it came from a couple of insanely talented Aussies, both of whom can sing anything...?! You bloody bewdy! I've seen this a hundred times, and it never gets old.
I love Anthony Warlows voice. It sounds like blue velvet unveiling into a grand midnight sky or something, but I've got to admit that John's note at 1:00 is freakin' amazing. He sounds just like David Phelps there.
Of all the characters Anthony could have picked to impersonate, he picked the one that Michael Crawford, the original West End Phantom, first became famous for playing. :) Love it.
Whoever programmed this piece into the Main Event deserves a huge round of applause - not only did it showcase Warlow's superb voice, it also showed a different side to John Farnham and classical music as well. Just magnificent.
Anthony's voice is superb and you can see and hear the training, but John certainly equaled him, superb, wish I could have been there to see them live.
I saw this concert and absolutely love this song The whole concert was fantastic but have to say this is one of my favourite bits from it You can see these two men had so much fun doing this song Both so talented. I’ve watched this so many times and will continue to do so
Anthony Warlow's voice doesn't surprise me at all. I knew he was a masterful opera singer (didn't know his comedic talent though). I didn't know John Farnham could sing like this. And I've been a fan of his for as long as I can remember.
I saw this show twice and this is my favourite duet of all time. Its not only hilarious, but John who is a pretty good singer really steps up and more than holds his own against the magnificent voice of Anthony. Individually they are both brilliant performers but together they are Dynamite
That magnificent gitano 'cry of pain' at 0:58 -1:01! Johnny Farnham could get a gig as a flamenco cantaor in any Andalusian tablao on the strength of that one note alone. When I invent my time machine I'm taking 1996 Farnsey back to 1970's Barcelona so he can do a duet with the legendary Camarón. And I´ll be in the front row.
iloverock718 my mother and I went to an Anthony Warlow show. No singing lol. It was a luncheon in Melbourne and he chatted and audience at tables asked questions. Mum and we got our photo taken with Anthony. I didn’t realise I had my hand on Anthony’s shoulder until I saw the photo lol
Ive been a fan of John Farnham for 10 Years ive seen him in Concert and Listened to all his songs and He truly is one of the Worlds Greatest Singers ....Take a Listen to his voice in this Its Absolutely BREATHTAKING anyone who says it isnt Doesnt Know Music. And has no Soul tbh
These two have such opposing voices yet can blend them together so smoothly while having so much fun doing so. I remember watching this on TV. I already loved these two artists, but I was in awe at this moment. I still love this song from this concert the most.
Yeah, technically Anthony is much better but John sure knows how to entertain too. My hat goes off to the two of them. They are both legends in their own fields.
I have listened to this so many times in the past....its without doubt one of the best duets of all time ...its so vocally awesome ..... the vocal range is fantastic ..... Spine tingling !!!! XXXXXX
there's another version of this on the Main Event CD in which Farnham sings "the cleaning lady" (aka Sadie style) right after the opening lines; it sent Warlow into stiches of laughter and it took him a few seconds to continue.
Delicious, just totally delicious. Amazing harmonising. Lovely that youtube is such a treasure trove of beautiful music, (Yes, I'm a Farnsey fan, totally committed, love everything he's ever sung). Feb'24. UK. E ❤
So glad I found this. Agree with NFavaloro2 about the :51 to 1:02. JF's the best and can he harmonise or what! It was a great concert from start to finish. Bravo!!
@@aflaz171 I missed that concert, but I would have paid double the price if I had to. My kids bought me the Video of the concert The Main Event when it came out, must get the dvd of the concert as I think I wore it out lol. I bet that negative commenter would love the most supportive family, his wife and sons, and life long friends and thousands who appreciates his voice, humility, humour and respect for all his musicians and his fans. And I guess all the money John has earned. All that Money not being the most important to John I bet. As you know his done so many charity concerts and didn’t earn a penny from those. Gee I’m on my high horse lol, we’ll John is a wonderful man. More like him, the world would be a better place.
If Johnnie had been given some elocution and sophistication he would have taken over the world, but he never grew into a class act that could be appreciated all over the world. Such mismanaged looks talent and voice.
Ahahaha this is hilarious. Thanks, but pretty much the entirety of Australia loves him as he is, and it says a lot about him that he never felt the need to "take over the world". In fact, many of us would call his ability to take so much joy in sharing his singing with his loyal fans without always looking for more, as well as prioritising living a relatively simple and normal life with his family above world fame, the true class act.
i didnt say this was his last time big concert and anyway anthony has better vibrato then john hes better at classical music and if u look at the vid ant is telling john what to do but tht might just be a joke
yer probaly there both good singers iam not disagreeing with u i am a farhan fan i just but think ant has a bit more spark and character to his performance and is a bit better with an audience but then again tht my opinion
