Grew up in Central jersey during that era when thrash was growing and all those bands but especially Anthrax, Cliff years Metallica, Overkill, ...etc. got me through my childhood and through all my bad times and now on 50 and it still gets me through... thank you all
Dan is a legend and master of his many crafts. If I could afford his watches I would have a dozen. And from what little I know he is a wonderful father that anyone would be blessed to have.
I'm more than fortunate to have seen Anthrax when Dan was in the band. This was back in 1989 when Anthrax was doing this tour called the MTV Headbangers Ball tour and opening for them were Helloween and Exodus.
By far the best interview I have ever seen with Dan. Been following Dan and Anthrax since 85 and there is absolutely nothing close in all the years to this.. great job
B.I.G. Danny Spitz fan right here !!!!!!! (Look at my profile pic !!!!!) ANYWAY, LOVE all the classic albums, and The Sound Of White Noise. They're just not the same without Danny and his Ninja Turtles Rhoads !!!!!!!!! For me, and I know lots of people, for whatever reason, disagree, State Of Euphoria is the quintessential Anthrax record. Every band member, especially Danny, was on top of his game. It's ART. As a 15 year old kid when the album came out, I was just sucked in by the album art, the NOT !!!! man, the whole 9 yards. This was my introduction to thrash, and what a monumental one it was !!!!!! From the opening sound of the cello, I knew it would be a monster. IMO, a very underrated and overlooked record, that for me, defined this band. As far as solos, every one on this record are great, and as Delz said, Danny could always shred with the best of them, but along with that, the slower parts of his leads just created so much atmosphere in the songs, and that is what set him apart from the rest. Standout solos on this record for me are Be All, End All, Misery Loves Company, and Finale. Masterful performances. Charlie's drumming was never better, either. PRAYING that Danny goes back to the band for the fans !!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you, Delz, for getting this interview !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well said man, Among the living, State of Euphoria were everything to me back then. It’s amazing how my parents thought it was just mindless noise but they never thought to take the time and read the lyrics. Some really heavy topics were being written about by these guys and other bands we listened to then.
I saw Anthrax with Ozzy on the No Rest for the Wicked tour back in the day. What I dug about Spitz was he’s a short guy like me. I’m 5’2 & also know the pain of finding stuff that fits. Loved the TMNT guitar & for years wondered what he’s been up to.
1st concert was Anthrax, Exodus and Celtic Frost at the Capital Theater in Passaic NJ in 1987 (I think). Hooked for life. Dan was awesome and a big part of their early sound.
Long time Spitz fan here. I used to annoy the piss out of him on Twitter and stood right at his feet in 2007 when they opened for Rob Zombie. THANK YOU for this interview, I take it he doesn't talk to just anybody.
Great interview - it was years later, but I was in a band that rehearsed in the music building. It was in Jamaica, Queens and was a complete dump but you could play any time you wanted if you had a space there. I’m also from the Bronx close to where Charlie and Frank are from, so I relate with these guys for sure.

Bring The Noise was killer when it came out. I was the only kid in my school into both metal and rap. I felt like an anomaly. I was about to start high school and was already a fan of Anthrax and Public Enemy. When Bring The Noise came out with both groups together, I tripped out. Finally my two favorite genres had a slamming collab.

thanks for getting Danny on! Anthrax was my favorite trash band from back in the day! Danny most definitely didn't get the recognition he deserves! Hands down better than most and a style so unique heartbroken when he left the band!
Loved this interview. Never saw this channel before but will sub immediately. I really enjoyed the easy conversational style of questions from an obviously passionate fan. So cool to hear different takes on the Anthrax story besides Scott and Charlie's. Dont get me wrong those dudes are cool as hell too,but just a different voice/perspective is great to hear. Anthrax has had really good lead guitarists since Danny,but theres just something off. Not bad just off. Hard to describe. I'm from South Jersey and would listen to Overkill stories alone for days if I could. I was 13 in 1983 so thrash and hardcore was life for me. Again fantastic/fascinating interview. Cheers

Anthrax is never been the same without him amazing guitar player in his own right and so is Scott not" Ian and I think they are the best guitar duo of anybody in thrash metal he took that band to another level we miss you Danny. Among the living, South of Heaven, Ride the Lightning, pleasures of the flesh, Stormtroopers of death, dimension hatross 3D and beg to differ. albums that were huge for me back in my thrash metal days
My son is a hip hop fan and he makes beats and he's really great at it, and over the years on his own he started finally getting into my music which ranges from 60s rick Grateful Dead and such and then thrash and Clutch is one of my favorite and took him with me to see them and he loved it

Was lucky to meet him and the other guys on the reunion tour in Sydney, 2005. Got my records signed by the whole band, which is amazing in itself! Those records were like my bible!
Spitz is the unsung hero of Anthrax. His part in propelling that band is often left out of the discussions. High Quality Guitar player,Writer and Team player. Dan is a genius though so even being a Rock Star wasnt enough for him so he decided too become a a Top 10 World Time piece designer and maker. It's amost criminal that he gets left out of Thrash guitar conversations. He was no slouch by any means.
Exactly!!!! I honestly have been trying to get him to do this interview for over a year “pesting him” 😂. Really wanted to celebrate his amazing career and talk about a lot that he doesn’t talk about . Glad the fans are enjoying it . Great interview 🤘 State of euphoria is my favorite album, Madusa and Antisocial tie for favorite song. I was there from the beginning with Fistful of metal. There will never be times like we had in the 80's experiencing and living the metal scene.

Danny, man I had not seen you in years bro. You were my inspiration to make me pick up a guitar and begin imitating you and your solos. Aww man I truly missed you all these years. I grew up with your music, the music of Anthrax and Metal in general, but you sir, were my inspiration and my favorite lead guitarist of all time!! I was so butthurt when I did not see you in Anthrax any longer, I mean, so much that at that moment I felt I had to make a decision and I literally stopped listening to Anthrax for quite a while. I just felt you were a very important part of Anthrax and it just was not the same not seeing you there anymore. Really good interview. I've always been a fan on Danny Spitz..but I have a unique opinion on Anthrax. I was born in 81 and from my earliest days, I've been a metal guy. Even when I was 5 or 6. Of course, the metal was pushed on me by relatives..but I loved it then and still love it now. My first Anthrax cassette was Among the Living and at the time I loved it. But as time went on..my opinion on the band has changed. While I still like them..I don't love them. All lineups..and everyone who has been in the band throughout the years have been great, top-notch players. But the songs just aren't there. The riffs are great....the melodies are great..but they don't have the songwriting of bands like Megadeth and Metallica (just using the obvious bands are an example). Like..the guys in Anthrax are better players than the guys in Metallica, but Metallica make up for this with their incredible songwriting. Anthrax have always struck me as a band that were one of those, 'fast is good..faster is better', kind of bands. Not many real players are into them. Their audience is more of the musically ignorant,.

I just finished Scott Ian's book. It's a good read. I read it just for the early years of Metallica. Theres only a small handful people that were around that can tell that story. Or that can talk about witnessing the immediate aftermath, after Cliff passed. Scott's told his Cliff story plenty of times. But always wanted to hear, the Thrax kids individual takes, on that event. Too bad Dan wanna get too much into it. I get it. Again. Theres only 3 people(and crew of course) that can say they were actually there, when Cliff passed. Fun fact. 'Tallica', and Anthrax's first, Fan Clubs(if anyone remembers those) was in, Roseburg, Ore.. About 8ish hours south of where i am, in Portland. That's you know if u have a 1st pressing of, Ride, Puppets, Spreading, or Among. They have of the OG FC address in the liner notes.

The leather basketball shoes(usually white on whites) was a metal thing and really a normal trend for anyone at the time. Don't know why Danny is being so cryptic on how Cliff passed. It's been 38 years and the story has been told many times.
Metal and basketball sneakers definitely was a major thing but does get covered enough vs Hiphop artists. Anthrax was out there so I’m sure it’s difficult to talk about being they were around since day one .
But Dan's done and incredible job for himself after Anthrax hell he probably makes more money now doing the thing with watches then he did with anthrax he's probably rolling in the dough I mean he's probably one of the best watchmakers in the world and timepiece restoration. I mean obviously he had a knack for it after he left Anthrax I mean like he said he was on a mission and he worked his tail off to become an amazing guitarist very technical and he ended up working his tail off to become one of the four most watchmakers in the world.

The last album I actually liked but it really would be amazing having the original line up. His solos are really special not to take away from Johnaton
@TheDelzShow That Donias dude is technically good, but he has no soul in his playing - it's stiff and robotic. Dan was the Randy Rhoads of thrash metal - I saw Anthrax live in 1984 and he was incredible.
His Cliff Burton story is all wrong! he talks about white out snow conditions which is completely inaccurate, there are widely known pictures of the crash that day and not a flake of snow is anywhere to be seen, temperature that morning was above freezing, by all accounts from police and band members there was no ice and certainly no snow on the road at all. He also says they left during Metallica's set, but you listen to Charlie or Frankie tell the story, something happened to Anthrax's drum riser and they had to wait a little while at the venue to fix it. Metallica left first and even offered to let members of Anthrax hitch a ride to get out of there sooner. The famous "maybe i'll see ya later" exchange between Cliff and Frank couldn't have happened if Anthrax left while Metallica were still on stage. Besides that it was an enjoyable interview.
People don't understand that, yes there are some shredders out there and I have no problem with that. I enjoy watching people applying their hard work to their trade. Once Danny left, and Joey got fired I lost interest It was a mix of growing up and out of that genre of music and it not being the same. Danny had a signature and when they got other guys, they sounded just like all the other cookie cutter metal bands. Plus, Scotts attitude doesn't help.
Testament is pretty weak their first abum and the song practice what you preach are their only good songs they sound kind of like a repetitive mwtallica clone with overly technical sweep solos
