I wish they could make a tutorial for these! I always loved 3D but I am soo bad at it so instead I chose drawing. I want to be able to do things like they do it’s SO COOL

Hey! You can actually see how the outline is done, I used it with my current project and it's very easy. * Create a new material on your model. For example, make a material that is the texture, and then, press the + icon to make another material slot. * This material needs: ** Emission shader ** Backface culling activated ** The emission color can be the one of your preference, black works with everything. After the material is done: * Put the "Soldify" modifier on your model that needs the outline. * Then set the "Thickness" to -0,0x and check "Fill" (altought sometimes you would need to turn this off because it breaks some models) * On Normals, check "Flip" * On materials you will need to set this number until the outline is visible, if everything was done properly. *Adjust Thickness until you have the desired outline. I think that's all, seems a bit complicated but it can be done in no time. Also, it ONLY works on Eeevee, it can also work on Cycles with the tutorial I followed but it's more in depth and needs a proper node thing. If it doesn't work message me.

Its pretty easy, just make a Solidify modifier, then tick flip normals and set the material offset to 1. After that make a new material called outline and make sure it is 1 after the texture material. Finally on the outline material tick the box that says "backface culling". And there you go

To add to your theory, my username was very much inspired by Shadow the hedgehog and I also do 3D modeling. Though certainly not to the same level of skill as this fellow.

try the Blender 2.8 Beginner 3D Modeling Tutorial by tutor4u- it won't teach you how to make a character like gus makes, but it's the most in-depth tutorial i know. otherwise, slowing gus's video down to .25 helps catch a lot of the tricks they use, though yeah it won't help you figure everything out and there will still, ofc, be a learning curve. the main thing ive picked up on is that they tend to start with planes to help shape the face of the character- they didnt do that here probably bc of the shape of the otamatone's face, but with things like the cats? seems like it helps a lot with detailing

True. They are really good at it!! There are probably people who would take a different approach to it and instead make something with more polygons at first, trying to make it all look good on a bigger scale and then lower the polygons rate?? It must take real skills and confidence to actually go with the flow and be this fast while making something so stylized look this good! 🤩🤩🤩🤩
