Hi Alivia! My name is Shazni, from Malaysia. I have been interested in linguistic for quite some time. Didn’t know it is actually one of the branches from anthropology, until I learned it from the current book that I’m reading, Anthropology For Dummies. I stumbled to your channel when I just doing random search about anthropology in RU-vid. I find your videos are helpful for me who are just about to delve deeper into this field of knowledge. Thank you so much
Would you consider reading and reviewing The Dawn of Everything by David Graeber and David Wengrow? It uses anthropological and archeological evidence to oppose the common story of human history that people like Yuval Noah Harari and Jared Diamond (authors whose works you have previously read and reviewed) provide and it is incredibly interesting, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.
I would absolutely consider reading and reviewing The Dawn Of Everything! I love that you mentioned that there are common threads between this book and the works of Harari and Diamond. Thank you so much!
Cell bio major at sdsu but anthro seems interesting. they had Pastoral clinic at the student library so I picked it up yesterday, so far so good! Nice recommendation.
There is an AMAZING book called butterflies of the night, and it’s about Japanese sex workers and how they fuel the economy and home life of families. I’m doing a project on it rn
Thank you so much for sharing this!! I'm hoping at some point (when I have a little more time) I can make a video about reading subscriber anthropology book recommendations. Thank you so much for this and good luck on your project!
@@AliviaBrown Into textbooks are great to refer to when planning a youtube video;the authors of the textbook usually include bits of info in the text that are proven to be effective in attracting new students to the discipline.
Thank you so much for these recommendations. I am a sophomore in high school. Where should I study anthropology, and when is the best time to apply? Thank you :)
Aw of course! So happy to hear they were helpful! And applying mainly occurs during the Fall in the US (just like any undergraduate degree) and in regards to where to study anthropology, that is completely up to you! There are so many great universities and I think being opened minded is the best place to start (just make sure they have an anthropology program hehe).
Enrollment depends on the u! Anth is all about who you know, I don't have any specific University reccomendations. Once you pick a school, I highly recommend getting involved in the program as much as possible!
