I knew the U.S. and capitalism had won when we opened the first McDonald's in the Soviet Union - Moscow - and the wait was four hours long. Done and done!

We won! And the decreasing standard of living of the American Working Class is our reward. The rising costs of health care and housing are our reward, but, there's no more reason to pretend a kinder gentler capitalism when the one major example of an alternative path has been destroyed. We should be happy. This is the Triumph of Capitalism! We Won! Privatize the Fire Department! Privatize the Library! End Social Security! Down with the USPS! We must wipe out every trace of socialism and become a pure capitalist nation! All praise the rich! Our natural masters! ;p

@@oliversmith9200 I am working class. My family has consistently gained more wealth since they moved here in 1846. They started as farm hands then died with their own farm. Their children were able to get educated and get better jobs and the process repeats itself until me and I am doing just fine. If my family ended up in the USSR I would still be on a collective farm living in dorms. You complain about rich masters and you actually think the oil tycoon in capitalism is different from the bureaucrat in a socialist system? No they are the same man. The difference is in a socialist system the bureaucrat has the full weight of a centralized government to enforce their will on you.

Oliver Smith Health care rise due to mix of crony capitalism and half government run, the VA is a good example of why government in healthcare could be bad. The fire department does need some improvements, the libraries should be handled on a local government level on whether people want libraries in their towns or not, social security is a joke that most of use would not benefit from in our lifetime, the USPS sucks man come on they are being outdone in every way by UPS, DHL, and FedEx.

The West doesn't have the tradition of grand spectacles like the Moscow May Day parades. It seems as if these things only survive in a tightly controlled authoritarian regime. Given the choice, how many people would like to spend their holiday marching around Red Square waving flags? North Korea is about the last country on earth that can still pull off this kind of thing.

Lucky Strikes Why is it when one makes a critique like mine, even when it comes to artistic style of visual propaganda, someone always gainsays it w/"x did it too.". Yes, the US did propaganda too. Still does. But, being something of a history buff w/a thing for the arts, I noticed that some of the posters Ushanka used bore a striking resemblance to the posters the DPRK uses now. Probably more of a use of the Stalinist Social Realism style the Communist states love than anything else. At least Warsaw Pact countries like Poland mixed visual styles up a bit.
@lhproductions00
@lhproductions00 6 лет назад
The reason why is because your statement came onto me as if the USSR was some 'special case', as if other didn't do the same, since you only mentioned them. But I indeed think the Kim's took inspiration from that very style.

How to keep one's people ignorant, but worse how to get it to fear the other side's regime. I was 20 when Brezhnev died, so he was the only general secretary I'd known. And then, in the early 1980s, I remember sitting in a bar within spitting distance of ground zero in Ottawa. There was heavy duty tension, but we never needed propaganda, because we knew the soviet system was something we didn't want. Also, at the same time, I read Solzhenitsyn's Goulag Archipelago, August 1914 and The Cancer Ward, which gave me quite the insight into soviet Russia. All in all: not a pleasant country I'd ever want to live in... The Americans were (and still are) just as bad, but winners don't go before the court of history (as long as they remain so).

When you are among wolves, you can't have peace by behaving like a sheep. You need a lion (USA) to silence the wolves (Kings, fascists and communists). Thanks to USA's power we now have a free and peaceful planet. And the extreme poverty has gone from 50%+ in 1990 to 10% now, showing that capitalism is better for the poor than socialism/communism. Also, the flag of USSR shows clearly that they wanted world domination, so please don't act as a victim. USSR were totalitarian freedom hating monsters. USA are not perfect but they are the least bad we could have as a superpower

@@antikokalis I'm a person who would argue otherwise, and also a failed comedian. I'll stand still if you want to throw some tomatoes back at me. There are so many different lives, different experiences, and impressions. Mine as an American worker and small civil rights activist has probably left me with different impressions than your's has you. For example. In the 1990's when I was directing an effective opposition exhibit installation in support of radical legal reforms, the City Bosses secretly told my Boss to warn me to quit, or fire me. That, or he would lose city contracts and his own living. (Economic persecution. throw the opposition into poverty especially if they are only common workers, with little money to fight back with. I know of two other victims of my city.) My Boss? He told me I had angered powerful men, and that bad things could happen to me. He warned me. He fired me: "laid off due to lack of work". In two weeks the new hire was seen in my old position. America is run by the rich. Egotistically, and tyrannically. You don't have to believe me, but, if you were here, I would get out the documentation in evidence. I've also done my own research, looking for the bad news. I bet you never read Mark Twain's works of radical criticism of American racism, police violence and brutal American colonialism in the wake of the Spanish American War. Perhaps you've never read USMC Major General Smedley Buttler's "War Is A Racket", or, Martin Luther King's "Vietnam" Speech. The one that got him assassinated, like John, and Robert, and the list is long. It's easy not to look too deep. It's not on the History Channel. Fellow man.
@antikokalis
@antikokalis 4 года назад
@@oliversmith9200 I respect your story but it's not convincing me. Why did you need radical reforms in a country that is leading the world in progress? If things were as bad as you say, international organizations would be condemning USA 24/7. You live in a country that has very low corruption. I live in a country (Greece) that has disgusting corruption. Yet, if i asked you which one is better, i bet you would choose Greece. You don't appreciate what you have. Of course, your country is not perfect, but it's definitely one of the best in the world I fully support the Cold War USA actions. Every sing one of them. Communism is evil and we had to fight it BAMN. Freedom won and the world is now better than ever, by far

Maybe this is old-fashioned patriotism, but on a channel by a Ukrainian showing the funny side of a totalitarian regime, why all the USA bashing? We have huge problems, out-of-control lassaize-faire capitalism, a balky political system, & madmen running the show, but we have strengths a lot of the world don't. We have human freedoms that are impressive (I don't have to worry about the midnight knock on the door for repeatedly calling Trump dangerously incompetent). We have an amazingly heterogeneous soceity (major cities have people of all races, faiths, cultures & genders interacting cheek to jowls relatively peaceably), and we have an education system that, for the most part, works. Don't judge us by the idiots who sometimes run our country or make the news media. We have problems, but so do the best countries. Finally, if we're so damned evil, why, when people have the freedom to do so & other choices available, does the rest of the world go to US movies, watch US TV, shows, listen to US music, & generally consume US pop culture? Maybe, just maybe, we're not as bad as you think we are.
