'Anti-ghetto' law in Denmark: Ruling Social Democrats take hard line on immigration • FRANCE 24

Danes head to the polls on Tuesday for a general election, with Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen of the Social Democrats seeking re-election. A plan to dismantle so-called "ghettos", begun by a previous right-wing government and continued throughout her term, is among the most radical in Europe. For a neighbourhood to be considered a "parallel society" or a ghetto, it must meet certain criteria. Among them: 50 percent or more of the population must be of non-Western origin. FRANCE 24's team reports from Copenhagen.

As a migrant myself I 100% agree, I came to germany after the berlin wall fell in 1990, and while i integrated seamlessly (culturally ofc) i observed how other migrants stayed in their own cultural confines. The result has always been the same, their german was worse, the way they perceived critique was mostly viewed from an oppressive standpoint not a constructive or logical point and they overall participation in the german culture was almost non present. even today, if i go to museums, art exhibitions and other cultural events i rarely see any migrants, especially from the middle east (where i am from). So ofc both cultures keep feeling distant and cold to each other. if you go to another place and refuse to embrace that place, why would u even go there to begin with? From a cultural standpoint I 100% support Denmark.

These laws are crazy because they do not adress the problem. As a Danish citizen I cannot move into any of these areas, even though I am an ethnic Dane. There is a problem with a lack of cheap, good housing in the big cities, and that will not be solved by tearing down well built cheap apartments to build expensive ones.
@resolecca
@resolecca 11 месяцев назад
Exactly everyone here is missing the point, first they act as if they immigrants and getting deported and they are happy about it they aren't going anywhere probably what will happen is they get put in public housing on the outskirts of the city, they won't integrate anymore than they already have because the same problems such as lack language ability still exist but now they have less employment opportunities, probably little to no public transport and without cars getting to the shops drs school and looking for jobs will become almost impossible so crime rates will go up either that or they will become homeless, if the government really wanted to integrate the immigrants they shouldn't have put them all together in the first place and they can could still even now make sure to put the immigrants in all areas of the country not just in one place at the end of the day all this is a ruse by rich people to turn public housing into expensive private housing

@Llkc60 Год назад
@@faisal-nl2vf no, that's not what I said, but one can of course twist it that way. Now I will spell it out for you so you can no longer pretend you do not understand what I meant. If you have trouble fitting in, then change what you can. in case you weren't aware many immigrants changed their foreign sounding family names once they arrived to e.g. the Americas. Once you or your family have left your native culture and country to live somewhere better you can expect to be assimilated. if you do not want to be assimilated then do not be surprised that you aren't accepted by the (in truth very civilized and helpful) native European population.
@stevefal
@stevefal Год назад
But fitting in is a personal choice. I don't have the right to force you to "blend in" by violence, such as eviction, fines, imprisonment, or deportation. You have the human right not to fit in according to other's cultural measure of you. Don't pretend you really want others to control how you think, express, or associate.
@Llkc60
@Llkc60 Год назад
@@stevefal yeah I agree and never stated otherwise. Employers also have the right to not hire you for whatever reason. People have the right to not date you, or to avoid forming a meaningful connection. @stevefal
@stevefal Год назад
@@Llkc60 This *is* the subject matter. The story and the legislation is about forcing people to blend in culturally under penalty of law. To say "blend in" if you don't. like is to say that the individual has no choice but to leave if they don't want to conform. You are missing the choice where forced conformity is prohibited, because it is, in fact, illegal. This is all beside that fact that despite "you become a European", it is widely bemoaned by immigrants in Denmark that no matter how hard they try, or how diligently they conform, even with citizenship, language fluency and singing the anthem, they are NEVER considered actually Danish by "real" Danes. Danes are an ethnic tribe first and foremost, and pretending that true integration is even possible under those circumstances is the galling hypocrisy. All foreign ethnicities are tolerated guests in Denmark, at the pleasure of the ethnic majority, regardless of legal status or lip-service to the contrary.

Denmark have taken so much immigrants last years and their birth rates are in about 1.71 pretty high for a eu country thanks to immigrants they can stop taking more and focus on integrating the already existing immigrants instead. Most eu countries or scandanivian countries do not have this luxury so they still need to take imigrants. If you are bleeding you need blood transfusion but if you get too much that will cause problems too. Although I am not sure this would fix the main problem. Most of the ghettos happen because of discrimination,joblessness and low education. Just destroying the neighborhoods would solve nothing really. They can just establish another ghetto in other place.
