The illegal use of poison baits to target animals is the most significant threat to vultures worldwide. It also puts other animals, nature and people in danger. Today, several conservation actions exist to mitigate this threat, and one of these is anti-poisoning dog units!
These units consist of working dogs and their human handlers. They actively search the countryside to remove poison from nature and prevent harm to others. The LIFE RE-Vultures project in the Rhodope Mountains operated two of these units, one in Bulgaria and another in Greece, to help preserve Griffon and Cinereous Vultures.
