Anti Puncture Tire Liner, Effective Or Not? 

Of course, you used a cheap single ply tire liner, I actually had the same results you had when I did my own testing at home a few years ago using a Mr. Tuffy. However, RhinoDillos Clean Motion (not sure what Clean Motion means, but it is the newest version) is a double ply liner and it actually stopped a needle from going through! Prior to the RhinoDillo test the only liner that would stop a needle was the (Panasonic) Panaracer Flat Away Kevlar liner, this liner also worked great except for one big problem, it became virtually useless at 2,000 miles, which means I should have replaced the liner at the 1,000-mile mark! This makes them very expensive to use, but they are the lightest liner on the market by far; so, choose your weapon, an expensive lightweight liner that will last about 1/2 of the tire's life, or a cheaper heavier liner that will last many tires. I suggest you test a RhinoDillo Clean Motion liner like you did with that cheap single-ply liner and show us what your results come up with. In my test I did not test it against a very sharp pointed blade since I have never had a pointed blade flat my tire in over 40 years of riding, but you go ahead and run that test too for fun and you tell us if there is any perceived difference between that cheap liner you tested and the RhinoDillo.

Thanks for the demo. I use Mr. Tuffy and Slime tubes but it doesn't stop everything. The combination does help especially with "bullhead" thorns. Last flat I ran over a packing staple that went through the Tuffy and destroyed the Slime tube so extra time cleaning the Slime out of the tire.

Never use your bare hands to test for sharp objects inside a tire. Use a rag instead. If it snags, there's a sharp object in there and you won't get cut.

Tires with high resistance to punctures would be ideal. However, I decided to give a second chance to a pair of schwalbe road cruiser tires (protection K guard number 3) that were punctured every time I went out, even twice. I used the same chinese strip but covered both sides with industrial duct tape to increase strength. They have already traveled four city trips of 15 to 50 km each and have resisted perfectly, it worked! Road cruiser is a very soft tire with low rolling resistance, ideal for pavement in my opinion but punctures are everyday events. Thanks for your review ...

You can also use car seat belts especially the older ones which is thicker than the one that is used now in cars,I also used drywall tape as liners, looped it twice since it's s bit thicker,but I might switch over to tubeless bike tires which is thicker than thorns.

I've just installed one like these from Shopee. Very hard to put coz' it's not sticky at all. I tried to put double-sided tape but still don't stick well. I put contact cement (UHU) instead and it holds the film well enough. On the road you won't actually will encounter a nail standing vertically as you demonstrated not unless it is pinched on a wood. A thumb tax would probably do instead. It is very hard also to put in the interior tube along with the exterior tube together especially on e-bike thick tires. You have to put the exterior tube first on the rim then put the interior tube after. The main reason I want to try this is to eradicate the hassle of bringing with me the necessary tools, patches, extra tubes etc. I hope I won't have a flat tire anymore and no more worries. Tried to fix these to my tyre, had a few swings with various kinds of glue before I learned they're just suppose to sit there.. and, as demonstrated.. worthless. Cheers for saving me wasting more time.

I found from experience that one of my bikes rarely went flat and the other one did often. The one that didn't has a thick tire track impression. But the road bike tire has an almost smooth impression and is prone to even thorns. My advise is to use thicker tires instead.

One of biggest headache to tubes being punctured is thorns, broken glasses,old tin or aluminum can, shredded tire left by truckers along the highway. Now,im using old leather belts reinforced with tire liners,but old leather belts get off center,the tires being punctured down the center.

For that pin type punctures, try to use a innertube punture preventer liquid (inside it). It prevents punctures up to 3mm.

I hate punctures too , so been riding on solids for over 8 years . Slightly harder to ride because they don't roll as well as tubed tyres but I'd rather have complete reliability. I would say for touring you'd be better off dealing with punctures and enjoying the easier rolling. 😁😎

The test wasn't very realistic. I've never run over a straight pin or a razor blade standing up in the road waiting for me. I have run over pieces of glass which slashed the tire, and I have had dozens, if not hundreds of flats from goathead stickers. A tire liner won't stop a large piece of glass, but in my experience, installing tire liners does eliminate my most common flat, the one caused by goatheads. Some of my bicycles with tire liners have not had a flat tire in more than 5 years. My suggestion for a realistic test would be this: Install a tire liner on the rear tire (where most flat tires happen) and leave the front tire unprotected. Go for a ride off-road, through grass where you expect to find goatheads. See which tire goes flat first.

I don't think this is a fair test because you are using your hand to guide the pin straight in, I believe the idea is to deflect the object and prevent it from penetrating straight into the tire.
