There was one philosopher in the past that said that stoics are cowards. That stoicism is a way to shy away from conflict, do nothing, but still feel resolute in one's position. There are also many conquered people throughout history that were seen as stoic in their resolve, and we know what happened to them.

@@king_dmj5280stoicism is about making peace with the things you cannot possibly change, and to be content with what you have. Also it is about taking action to change what you can change. I never seen stoicism described in the way this comment section is describing it. In a way I feel like what you’re describing is religion, and dare I say Christianity.

It was Nietzsche. As a longtime practicing Stoic, there are huge benefits in it however there can be a passivity that comes with it I find it helpful to think of it as a balance - sometimes you need Stoic acceptance, sometimes you need the Nietzschean Will to Power mindset. Dogmatically following any philosophy without awareness or introspection can be problematic imo. "Only the Sith deal in absolutes"

Well stoicism as helped me during hard times but won't lie this channel has helped me more than the stoicism and when I took action thanks to this channel and other things saw progress.

As someone with Greek heritage and grew up speaking Greek at home but English at school I just want to point out the prefix Anti has 2 meanings in Greek . It can be used as “the opposite “ which is the common use case in English , but the second meaning is it can be used as “ instead of “ which is never used in English . So Anti stoic can be seen as opposite of stoic , or instead of stoic . I prefer the instead of , as it gives you an alternative without being against it . The Greeks had many schools of philosophy as they realised no Philosophy can be right for every person all the time . They didn’t see things as black and white they weren’t that naive . When I am suffering due to illness or some problem in my life I find the stoics get me through it better than anyone else . When I get through it and life eases up and I get my strength back I switch it up to something more aggressive and heroic and when life is good I take a page out of the Epicureans book so I enjoy it . Life has ebbs and flows and is complex you need to find a tapestry of things to help you all the seasons of life

Stoicism is a philosophy for prison and extreme situations. When you have control over nothing and can only survive by withdrawing into your own thoughts. This can help you to emerge from traumatic situations unscathed and psychologically intact. For normal times, it's a cope for powerlessness. The Will is everything.

Stoicism has helped me tremendously in times of hard work, endurance and self control. I agree that it should not be made into pacifism. But I don’t see it as an issue when used as a means. I’m not anti stoic. I use it in balance.

Stoicism is an honourable lifestyle but not fulfilling as it ignores the real reality and purpose of this experience which is our relationship with God.
