Stormer & Swingfire USED to be able to do insane trick shots & could curve a missile unlike any other in the game, which was what these vehicles were intended to do in the first place IRL (though to be fair, probably not as extreme as it was in-game). Then Gaijin "balanced" them, around the same time they removed the ability to fire ATGM's on the move. So even if this is a bug rather than a feature, it makes me happy that these two vehicles might make a return to glory.
I love when they "balance" the game by removing irl capabilities from vehicles and changing how they work, in order to enforce rank compression. Oh and at the same time, let's not forget setting the game to heavily favour Russia vehicle design and give very effective and generous stats to Russian (and, to a lesser extent, German) vehicles whilst ignoring "glitches" to do with non Russian vehicles. The Abrams blow out panel meme and thermals come to mind.
in WT the swingfire missile is probably nerfed quite a bit in terms of manoeuvrability. IRL it can basically turn on the spot 90 degrees straight after launching (there's a picture of a jeep mounted swingfire launching which shows this well). Also IRL crews could control the missile from outside the vehicle so that does to an extent justify removing/easing the sight depression guidance limitation. I'm also unsure if the fv438's periscope elevation limits are correct as the only source (not proper just searching online) said it had +20/-20 degrees of elevation
@@themistaken9571 yeh for real. The swingfires goofy design was entirely (and obviously) built around the ability to fire the missile and drop it over stuff from weird angles. The original version that was added to the game was about accurate to it's irl capabilities, bug it got nerfed to protect the Russian tech tree because warthunder is balanced for Russian vehicles. Hell, it's called the **swingfire** lmao. The clues in the name with how it's intended to be used.
@@themistaken9571 are you saying my jeep wrangler can have a swingfire? haha you mean like a light vehicle? Jeeps are only used in war in poorer countries. My skid plates wouldnt save me from gunfire, but i think my upgraded suspension might live, just not me
@@pluemas I can't find any info that the Swingfire was made to do stuff like that. All I find is, it was made to be a cheap replacement for the Javelin. The ATGM in flight can do 45 degree turns. And it can do a 90 degree turn UPON launching. Like, you launch it and instantly turn it 90 degrees, but this wasn't a common thing. It was a possibility. No where I could find said it can do crazy maneuvers or anything IRL. Or can I find that it was a commonly practiced tactic. Any ATGM can be thrown around in many directions or angles. Especially if it's a wire guided one. Given the limitations of the wire. That, and why would anyone in real life want to try and do a high change of angle with a wire guided atgm? It can make the atgm just lose control and stuff.
Considering IRL they could place a targeting device on a hill then just sit behind the hill launching and guiding the missiles I'd say this is a fair compromise.
Ammo explosions are insane now. I literally VAPORIZED a Tiger H with a Soviet 85mm yesterday. There was nothing left except the road wheels rolling away. Not even the dead hulk. Just banished it to the shadow realm.
I’m very happy with the ammo rack explosions now. I sent an M60 (variant something) turret truly at least 12 stories high after an RB55 ATGM hit it in the front plate.
They should do wide angle cut scenes for the victim, just so he gets to appreciate it too. And I know this will never get in to the game... but if that turret had fallen on an open-top or a truck... that would have been a double-kill.
@@ShadowsOfTheSky I've gotten three of these massive detonations so far. Two on Panthers with the hull going into the shadow realm and turret popping up bout 20yds. Best one do far tho I hit an M19s ammo and shit you not the turret went a good 30yds in the air and a good 50 yds horizontally cross the map.
The aiming thingy is actually a really old glitch, i use it alot, mostly with the british adats, really helps. Also if u want a good challenge, the canadats got buffed in the mobility department now, reap fun to bonk t-72s with 11kgs of tnt
@Steve Arthur How doesn't it mean that? They suffered so many losses in men and equipment that they have to mobilize beyond what they planned. There are pictures taken of troops taken as recent as this last week of them being sent in with WW2 era helmets and century old rifles. They are losing, losing worse than many think and people *already* think they're losing. To think they aren't doing terribly is literally just copium addiction. their own people don't even want to deal with it and are leaving in droves.
Bro imagine if that added a M1151A1 that had a mounted Javelin. I was in a CAAT “Combined Anti Armor Team” section in the Marine corps and we practiced a lot of tactics and maneuvers with our trucks and guns. I could only imagine the damage that they could do in this game. Would be nostalgic for me to relive some stuff like that virtually.
The Javelin is a top-attack AT system. You are supposed to be able to select different modes depending on the target. These systems are designed for hull-down engagements. War Thunder crapped the bed when they implemented a lot of these systems and just made it worse lol.
I don't play WT very effectively... I find the controls are a bit of a scrolling list. But, watching you is very enjoyable. You play this game very well. Thanks for the content.
You can also set key binds for “sight distance control” in the miscellaneous section and get the same effect if you want to keep the utility of manually adjusting your sight zoom

I already quite enjoy the Swingfire without this glitch, but with it this may be my favourite vehicle in the entire game. Now the video is out I wouldn't be surprised if it's patched within a week or so, knowing Gaijin
I'm so going to have me some fun with this now... I like the swingfire already... didn't know about this exploit... So many good map spots for this now with its upwards angled launch.
This became possible a bit after the sight adjustment was changed to what it is now; distance moving in the scope view instead of the whole scope view moving. I don't remember when but it was quite a while ago at this point
I remember pulling shots like this previously from full cover, but you would have to get the missile on track to target before your cover broke line of sight to the missile. Usually taking a few test shots before you'd get close. Gonna have to try this out now too!
Now it is more like IRL. There is a reason it had a telescoping sight and launched at a high angle. The idea was to stay hull down while launching it up and over.

This video reminds me that the Rakjpz with SS.11s currently has a weird bugged missile variant in the modifications window that is not hand aimed, but semi-automatic, making it significantly easier to use. What was once a pain to use, is now a lot of fun
This isnt just from a recent patch. This has been in the game for a while, I made a video showing this a few months ago. Its definitely useful hopefully it doesn't get patched.

Swingfire was always OP imho, you can sit behind cover very easily as the periscope sits so far above the tank itself. I've sat in trenches for full games racking up kills.
yeah this bug looks like it just makes the missiles arc more so they come down on the target if they are close enough. I remember hiding everything but the optic and still being able to fire with it before.
Been doing this with the bmp2m for ages to make if for its horrid depression. Allows me to actually crest hills without having to expose the entire tank

Pretty sure this is one of those vehicles we're using correct historical site placement gets you a nice high up sniper position. I can't believe so many people just use the gun barrel camera it removes so much flavor from the game

I feel like ATGMs changed recently. Just yesterday I had a dirty shot where I swung a BMP's ATGM right around a rock to get a kill and I felt like it was too agile.
Did you know odd, in 3rd person you can contol the missle however you want? extra depression you would never have or 90 degrees right above you, very good on the sturm for aa or dealing with hills
