The discrimination against white men within RAF recruitment was finally stopped when a female Group Captain pointed out to the higher ups that it was an illegal order and that she would not obey it. That cost her her job. Years of box ticking in the RAF has led to low calibre recruits getting in and the RAF is now pretty much a joke. Michael Wigston was an appalling Chief of Air Staff.

I just don’t get this. Ok so if the board is all male are we saying that’s because all these evil men got together and stopped women from working there or were they just not willing to do what the men did to get there. We live in the most prosperous and safe era of any human beings. I think we believe that will always be true. We are now just messing with everything and anything that got us to where we are because reasons and mean men. I hope all this stuff doesn’t backfire on us, which I’m pretty sure it will. How does every great society become great because of its men and then once men make it safe and prosperous we are now going to do the opposite of that. None of this seems smart.

I am unemployable as a white, working class male with three degrees (level 8). All employers NEED to know my ethnicity and sexuality. Why is that? Over fifty applications made this year and never got as far as an interview. Why is that? The Equality Act (2010) is being interpreted in such a way as to legalise discrimination against the majority.

I'm in a small, painfully woke state in the USA, and for me last year it was 70 job applications over roughly 9 months, maybe 8 interviews, and endless rejection despite a superior, big city employment history compared to the local competition. I finally got the job I most wanted after an initial rejection because 7 months after the interview process they realized they were weren't going to find anyone better and the department I now run was going to pieces. If you are white, male, middle-aged, and have even the slightest deviation from perfection on your application the DEI mindset will seize upon that and reject you. In my case it's the irrelevant lack of a college degree - my employment history makes this a non-issue from a competency POV - and a career "gap" of a few years when I engaged in some entrepreneurial experiments that didn't pan out. Last week the outgoing CEO praised my competence and said "I only wish I'd found you sooner." Peter Whittle is 100% correct that DEI will eventually harm the bottom line of the companies pushing it. I wish you luck in your search. Don't give up, keep your head up, and find a place where you can make yourself indispensable.

Peter, as usual, is discussing this dreadful situation with candour. I am a great believer in boycotting firms that one finds repulsive. It may seem a little feeble, in that one is only a mouse attacking the lion, but it feels very, very satisfying - and if, like myself, one has woke neighbours it’s delightful having an honest opinion to use a stiletto to puncture their windbag beliefs. Banking is certainly not misogynistic. I’ve been working in banking for more than 20 years and there has always been plenty of women around, including at the top. The reason there are fewer women at the top is that there are fewer women that want to be at the top. I know this from discussing with dozens of female friends and colleagues. ALL of them in their 40s/50s and looking to exit their careers. Meanwhile, I don’t know a single man who is thinking about stopping working.

If two candidates are equally qualified and score equally after interview, the potential employer can make their decision based on said characteristics. They can choose to employ the candidate who is part of an "under represented" group. We all know what that means: the straight, white male doesn't a chance in those cases. I think the fair thing to do in those cases would be to flip a coin, but instead the government decided to make discrimination legal.

Westminster Council were doing this years ago and went to some lengths about how they got around positive discrimination laws. So, the very laws designed to protect us, the authorities were undermining them to discriminate against the English.

Diversity should be about equal opportunity and no more. Positive discrimination such as this reduces the gene pool. We do not need more men/women/gay/trans etc etc, we need those things to be irrelevant. Sadly they’re not. As a 64 year old white hetero male I would have utterly no hope of any senior position irrespective of my capabilities or qualifications. I was, incidentally, made redundant 3 1/2 years ago.

It isn't just finance but the Arts. I have no idea what's happened but it's dross. The Arts are meant to be a cultural mirror. At times provocative but also dynamic and transcendent. Have we reached a place where the Artistic mirror reflects nothing? This is where culture comes to die, but no-one has seems to have even noticed.

There are very good reasons why "white males" rise to these positions and much of it has to do with hard work, sacrifice, and very very long hours. Most people do not want to do that to themselves. Sure theres some nepotism and jobs for the sons going on but name me an industry where this doesnt happen. Overall in the past if you did the sacrifice, hard work, and long hours you got the pay off later in life. Delayed gratification thats called and many don't want to do that either.

I can't stand the interviewer either!! Unfortunately, even her looks put me off. The short back and sides haircut, the no nonsense, I know it all because I'm a woman!! She comes across as someone who can barely give Peter, the time of day!!
