Bacteria develop resistance to the antibiotics because of improper dosage and unnecessary usage. Dr. Fraser currently focuses her research on preventing and controlling hospital-acquired infections, adverse events and medical errors. Here she explains how antibiotic resistance has become a public health crisis.
Victoria J. Fraser is the Adolphus Busch Professor of Medicine, chair of the Department of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine and physician-in-chief for Barnes-Jewish Hospital.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

We done! Thanks for the video. My father graduated from the University of Louisville in 1920 and on his death bed reflected on antibiotics as he had practiced twenty years without them. Being a surgeon he often not "close" someone and the entry would be left partially open for drainage. He indicated they left some very large scars. He was born in 1892 and had seen the development of radio, cars, airplanes and even spaceflight but he considered antibiotics the most important thing in his life. He did remind me that "antibiotic" translates to "anti life!"

This year US has 3.25 trillion budget on healthcare, number like that is something that would actually pay all of Finland for the next 1760 years. US Annual healthcare cost per person is little over 10,000$.

Petri Ahinko That is one of the biggest reasons I will not move back to the US. My cobra payment was $600 a month and when that runs out maybe $1500. Insanity.

Farms in the US are the worst! Countries that don't give a.b's to animals unnecessarily have less animal death because of infections. Could be worth mentioning I alwo wish you talked a little about the artificial spleen - if that comes out, things might get a little better You could also have mentioned triclosan (antibacterial hand gel and soap, Colgate toothopaste), which also gives resistant bacteria

Each family should have to raise their own cattle. When they need meat they take it to a butcher to be processed. Problem solved
