My old analog outdoor TV antenna is still up. Is there something I could connect to it to recieve digital to my tv?
@Danielistheway1
@Danielistheway1 Год назад
@@daddynunya9045 No need to upgrade your antenna. In fact, if you have a old analog tv then you do need a digital OTA conver box to receive digital channels to an analog signal that your tv understands. Or if you have a flat screen tv (aka a smart TV) it already has a built-in digital tuner (no converter box needed) just connect your cable from the antenna to your tv and you should get all the channels in your area just fine. (Outdoor antennas need replacement every 10 or so years) depends how well built, may be a little longer. Other than that, your already good to go.

Antenna companies used to have cut sheets, that would show you signal strength, signal-to-noise ratio, front-to-back ratio etc. That's how I chose my antenna in 1988, as I was trying to cut ghost interference. It worked. I no longer see such documentation today -- I know this model doesn't have it!

Thank you so much for real information. I recently installed a Televes antenna based on your review and was extremely satisfied with the results. Only the uninformed will go for a gimmick like this Antier antenna. I've tried antennas in the past and had given up. I was able to punch through heavily wooded areas and receive 120 channels. The trees on my property were at least 60 ft. high and I thought I would need a tower to have an antenna. Keep on putting out real information! Lawrence, Conroe TX

as a former dish network employee who's experienced frequent instances of channel disputes resulting in local channels being blacked out between dish and the network owners, i can tell you that your channel comes highly recommended by me. i appreciate that you emphasize that channels that are broadcasted for free over the air shouldn't have to be paid for and i clearly understood customer anguish when channels were lost due to corporate greed between the provider and the channel owners. since i first discovered your channel, i've always used it as the go to source of information on selecting the best ota for use in my home as i refuse to pay a fee to a provider and the wide variety of local channels one can get for free is more than what any provider can offer. keep up the excellent work and thank you on behalf of all us consumers who care about getting the most from our tv's without paying an arm and a leg!!

It had been working fine for yrs but with recent rain storms, I kept losing channels. I attached a Phillips LTE filter ($10.00) to the antenna cable and plugged it into the TV. ❤ excellent presentation😊 I've used your advice on my three-story house that faces the Pacific Ocean where the television stations are southeast of me with a direct line of site. 😊 I purchased a channel master and used a compass to properly aligned the antenna. At the time I pulled in fairly strong signals from ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, and 1 FOX television stations approximately 5 years ago? Today, I get approximately 77 stations . However, most are junk. I would say that 98% of my entertainment is Netflix without advertising! 😊 Oh, I do use a Channel Master amplifier because my cable is very long. I have referred people to your channel as it is excellent, thank you.

Good review. Since this antenna is a UHF-only antenna and quite small, it would be interesting to see how well it receives a channel on the lowest part of the UHF band (RF channels 14-19). Seems like a slightly larger UHF element is more beneficial, especially since the repack.

In your list of reputable antenna companies, i just want to add that "stellar labs" makes absolutely solid and well performing but inexpensive antennas. Their 30-2476 is an absolute VHF-Hi monster (the best available currently) and it's under 50 bucks. The only antenna that's been able to pull WOIO for me, a station 50 miles west of me, and I'm in a direction they null towards.. They also make an ant751 clone for about 25 bucks. They're no frills, no amps, just solid antennas for pretty cheap, and they deserve a spot on your list of reputable manufacturers in my opinion. They're making legitimately good no-frills antennas.

I am lucky I live in Phoenix Az and with a simple homemade antenna out of copper wire I get somewhere around 90 channels clear. Most are reruns and retro stations which is fine by me as the shows I like on it it. I run a Windows 7 computer with a tv tuner card as a dvr. Pbs and Me tv are my favorites and clear along with the major networks. I also run a small tuner I got off ebay which allows simple DVR functions and only cost 30 dollars. Adding a 128 gig usb thumb drive allows me to transfer Tv shows to my computer to watch later. For a cheap device it records as clear as the tv is on play back. Also the computer with the hd tv card records very clear also. For $30.00 I got one way to record and I already had a spare computer to repurpose as a dvr. Aside from electricity I pay $20.00 a year for a 2 week channel listing. I just found out about 4g lte and %g filters I will get one soon as I do live close to a 5 g tower. I used to pay $240.00 a month for cable and internet and a switch to T mobile dropped it to $55.00 a month and well the rest is almost free. The money I save feels very good.

I have found that local TV stations generally do a poor job regarding using an antenna to receive their OTA signal and why consumers get ripped off buying junk instead of a good antenna. I feel that they don't care because they are raking in money from retransmission fees from cable companies and streaming TV carriers. I am still perplexed how many people think you cannot use an antenna to receive local TV OTA for free.

I tried a few indoor antennas for my location in Queens near the north Long Island Border and all indoor antennas could not catch channels 9, 11 and 13 and sometimes channel 5 was lost. The only indoor antenna that worked for me to catch all the channels (tho 11 stil comes in slightly pixalated) is the ‎1 BY ONE indoor amplified antenna. It literally was the only indoor antenna that worked for me here in my area (if placed on window) - the power for the antenna boost does work since without it being pluged in I lost some channels. I have zero connection with that brand and am a genuine customer. I eventually installed the Antennas Direct Clearstream 4 TV outdoor antenna and that worked for me but that 1 BY ONE indoor antenna came in a close second to the outdoor antenna.

FOLLOW UP: For some reason (prob atmospherics ?) I am now losing WPIX 11 (only channel I lose) with my newly installed outdoor Antennas Direct Clearstream 4 (all other channels come in strong at 70-80% ) facing the proper direction to lower Manhattan antenna clusters south west fom me, but with my ‎1 BY ONE indoor amplified antenna facing the opposite direction (east) by the window (literally stuck on window-move to a table loses signal) is getting channel 11, tho with some pixellation. I think the 1 BY ONE's wide rectangle design helps. I am using the outdoor antenna with my TV 's tuner and the indoor antenna connected to a separate Homeworx tuner connected to one of my TV's spare hdmi ports when I want to watch WPIX. I have no connections with these antennas just a user. I would love a review by you just to confirm how this works. YOUR ADVICE HELPED ME CUT THE CORD. THANKS!

Folow up: the weather cooled down and now my outdoor antenna can get channels 11 WPIX etc again so it was not rain related but heat related

As soon as I saw "350+ miles" I knew I did not want to watch this...CUZ THIS WAS GOING TO BE ONE OF THEM JUNK ANTENNAS. But in all honesty, I still want an indoor antenna...maybe that Channel Master you reviewed weeks ago might work.

I get irritated by duplicate channels more than anything. We do have some solar interference at times of day though, so occasionally the duplicates do come in better.

That doesn't look like a childs toy, it looks like one of those adult "toys" A lot of those preamps are noisy not due to the preamp circuit itself, but are usually noisy due to the power source you're feeding it, most of those cheap switch mode power supplies that come with those cheap antennas are very noisy and pump it all into the preamp circuit.

Good video. Why are some areas prohibited from buying the Homeworx tuner?

Illinois, California, and a few other states prohibit Amazon from shipping the converter box because of some state regulation about RF interference that makes no sense.

@@AntennaMan Really? I would think the FCC would take a dim view of a State attempting to pre-empt FCC regulations. Some States try that years ago with Wi-Fi (e.g., prohibiting Wi-Fi use at the airport because the airport administrators wanted the bands for themselves). The FCC smacked them down in no uncertain terms.

These things are always made in foreign countries. It feels like the same people who run call centers in India are trying to scam people with these antennas. If you notice on some of these postings on Amazon there are spelling errors meaning the poster cannot type and speak normal English. False range claims especially those up to 350+ miles are a dead giveaway that the antenna is complete garbage. I hate scammers.

I cut the chord a couple of years ago and switched to Roku. However, I think I’d like to add an antenna to pick up some other broadcasts. I live in Sebring, Florida and most of the towers are about 50 - 70 miles away so what would you recommend for an attic application?
@twitter.comfixwifi992
@twitter.comfixwifi992 Год назад
Your between Fort Myers, Orlando, Tampa, and West Palm Beach. Orlando, Tampa, and West Palm Beach has some VHF stations. At that distance recommend outdoor, and if you've had cable or satellite before you could possible use the wires they ran outside. A attic limits how much you can turn a antenna. Orlando and Tampa has the most channels. In a attic maybe Channel Master 4228 gets channels from a wide angle but VHF will be iffy at that distance, and you may have room to turn it. For outside maybe a Wineguard 7698P but in a attic you will only have room to point it 2 directions.

So, bought a new outdoor antenna based on Antenna Man recommendations. (Channel Master Pro with extra vhf and uhf add ons). I had instructed the installer to point it right at cbs and fox (228.84 degrees would probably be best) but I suspect he just slapped it up there. Is there a tool I can use to check it?

Do the solar flares affect tv reception? Some channels that are usually rock solid have been tileing quite a bit on some days. I know it can affect amiture radio. Thanks for any information you can provide.

Hi Sir I have a very long UHF & VHF out side aerial Antenna & worked really well to until the angle reflector mesh rusted away & had to take it down & the rest of the Antenna is still up there & yet the rest of the aerial anter is fine & what would you recommend in making a New mesh reflector out of copper or Aluminum & what would you prefer making a New reflector instead of buying a New TV Antenna as they are quite expensive to buy new TV Antennas or just save up & buy a new TV Antenna & I was thinking of buying a New indoor Antenna but as you say that you don't recommend using these cheap indoor Antennas & I would buy a New deplexer to hook up the new RG6 Coaxial cable to the deplexer Kind Regards Peter PS if cannot one part that goes with my antenna which I don't think I've got & I will have a look in the garage & if I can't find 1 I will most likely have to buy a New a Naw antenna anyway

Actually, you can easily build one. The easiest is a simple dipole, directional in two ways (front and back) or omnidirectional if you mount it vertically. If you want directional with a front to back ratio, look on the internet for information. You can build with one driven element or two, and director elements in front and a reflector element in back.

It looks like the FCC could do something to put a stop to the exaggerated ranges that these antenna makers claim. If nothing else Amazon and Ebay could put a stop to it.

The antenna itself can of course do 350 mile range when the signal would be transmitted from a low-orbit satellite. But such signals are not transmitted from satellites. And in realistic situations (transmission from a tower) it will be limited by the curvature of the earth, not the antenna. This kind of specification is the result of "competition". When seller A inflates their specs a bit, seller B has to go over that to get their sales back. And this continues until the specifications become ridiculous. This is very common in the antenna world. Not only the range, but also the gain figures are usually bogus.
