Antigua, Guatemala Easter Processions 

The beautiful city of Antigua, Guatemala is home to the largest Easter processions in the world. These processions take place every weekend throughout Lent, with the biggest ones occurring during Semana Santa (Holy Week).
All over town, people design elaborate alfombras (carpets) made of sawdust, pine needles, fruit, flowers, and more. Processions of hundreds of people carrying massive altars move through the streets, eventually trampling the alfombras.
Over one million people visit the city of Antigua during Lent to see the processions. It was on our bucket list for many years and we finally made it happen this year. Check out some highlights of our time there in this short video!
