Side effect is an unintended, often secondary, consequence of a medical treatment or intervention. It can be either positive or negative. Adverse effect is an undesirable, unintended, and potentially harmful outcome or reaction that occurs as a result of a medical treatment or intervention. Adverse effects are typically negative and potentially harmful. So we can say that both are unintended effects of treatment but distinction is potential harm.
