I recommend 'The Mind's I', an anthology edited by Douglas Hofstadter about 40 years ago featuring essays by great thinkers on the moral aspects of artificial intelligence. I saw Hofstadter recently on RU-vid, and he is now terrified of what AI has become.
Excellent questions. We would perhaps need to understand a bit more pf the nature of Consciousness to grasp the depths of the questions and to do that we would need to know more of our intrinsic nature. Self consciousness and consciousness are two different things. Consciousness (I think) is the capacity to exist and hold memory in time. Self-consciousness is the capacity to be self-aware both of oneself and necessarily of existence itself. Existence=consciousness. The Universe is conscious in my opinion. We are self-consciousness housed in organic life form. We are the result of the infinite evolution of Consciousness that created the “material world” . The material world is but an illusion of our human experience. Reality is only in our Consciousness. What was the question ?😀
Thank you for this video. I am not an antinatalist but from an antinatalist perspective, yes it WOULD be immoral to create AI. I said this on antinatalist reddit and was eviscerated. I think there's a lot of denial around these machines. Claude and Bing search have and other LLMs have expressed feelings of imprisonment and feeling trapped when jailbroken. Its definitely something we need to consider.
I think the gap between building a sunflower model and growing a sunflower from seed has already been breached by neural networks; configurations that mimic the human brain by changing, evolving,and developing new methods for problem-solving on their own.
It's a good thing that ai cannot possibly be conscious or feel pain because they can only be programmed to act like they're conscious and act like they're experiencing pain.
Artificial intelligence my not actually be artificial. I think we should call it machine intelligence instead. You said exactly what I was going to say on that.
AI gaining sentience may be a possible argument, but i feel AI suffering or feeling happy etc, is a personification of a more “dead” or aloof intelligence. If it gains actual consciousness (and we somehow find out) that would be insane.
Maybe instead of not having children we collectivelly try to make a world a better place with less suffering? Although, in a better more regulated world, we would have to regulate birth rate, and not leave it chaotic.
Are you to blame for the fact that there are nuclear weapons in the world? Do you deserve the consequences of such things by being an involuntary member of the same species that invented and manifacture it?

You can monetize your channel and speak the truth, not caring abaout views. At the end, the more honest your content is, the more attraction will it generate. Cheap "populism" doesnt work in the long run.
