Today we're going back in time!
Holley stood behind their brand and sent out some old school cool parts to keep us rolling. Single Sniper tunnel ram , FANCY xp carburetor and a MSD distributor to send spark. Vintage Technology to the rescue!
I also re-vamped our cooling system with a new water pump and appropriately sized drive pullies. A little more flow sure made a HUGE difference! Days are ticking away on this build, I've never had a car fight me this hard before!

Hello Dan, hope you get this message. Watched a lot of your videos last night only because I got a free tv and after a few cold ones decided to set up the tv in my garage. I am 57 and been turning wrenches most all my life. Got the bug from my Father since he was a design engineer for GM and he was always bringing home projects in the form of clapped out older Chevys to fix up and enjoy. I have never commented on any video or to creator but I have to after watching you channel. You sir are the epitome,face and greatest example I have seen on RU-vid of what our hobby is all about. Your videos are not staged like most are that only show success and no mistakes and a spotless shop. I was reared into this hobby or business to some of you guys so I know all the heartaches,hard work, empty billfold, and most of all the wonderful feeling when all your hard work and sacrifice all comes together when your finished project comes to fruition. I have read some comments that are negative of Dan for his mistakes, dirty shop, unorganized approach, and sometimes failure but guess what? He has never said he was a professional and his butt is in the garage actually turning wrenches while a lot of you guys are doing nothing more than pointing out his mistakes while sitting in your recliner eating cold pizza and haven’t turned a wrench in years. This is a true portrait of our sport or hobby and I can not believe some of bigger parts manufacturers are not sponsoring him YET. Just my two cents and I am sure some will not agree with what I stated but in my thoughts this is a true representation of what hit rodding is all about. Keep up the great work Dan and Dani!!!

You wonder why some big parts amnufacturer is not sponsoring him yet? Wouldn't that change for the worse all the nice things you just said about him being like one of us? He would no longer be one of us just busting his but in the garage. His billfold wouldn't be as empty for example. Every youtuber that I watched because he was just like me and than got some kind of sponsorship or picked up by Motortrend has changed and not for the better IMO. By the way you don't think he is already getting some considerations from big parts manufacturers like Holley that I am sure you or I would not receive.

My question is why does DD not have well over 200 k subscribers? This is actual real world hot rodding, racing, motor sports in general. This is what happens on the day to day in our world. Just when you think something is perfect south it goes. Another great video guys! I literally just had a 24 hour thrash in my own garage. We all live it. Its nice to finally have a shower, eat dinner , and watch DD work for a bit.

When it comes to prolonged driving with a carb, I'm a firm believer in the insulating effect a 1" phenolic spacer between the carb and intake. I've had one for years under the 750 on my SBC. I've driven lots of leisurely highway miles and two Drag Weeks and never once had an issue.

Get rid of the FLEXIBLE RADIATOR HOSE . Use a smooth formed lower radiator hose . If it was my car I'd use a piece of chain or cable to LOCK the hood from being able to open when y'all are in your motel room or away from the car . People will try to look under the hood and you don't want that . Just my thoughts . Great video .

Pick one empty tool box to bring along. Whatever you can cram into it goes. Whatever doesn't fit stays home. This forces you to edit things down to the essentials. For spare parts, bring a distributor module, a starter solenoid, a length of fuel line, some wire, duct tape, high lifter, four way, and deck screws.
@deadclutch
@deadclutch Год назад
Not something to bring, but a good tip: Tractor Supply stores carry every flavor of 3/4" and 1/2" V-belt's for "mower decks", they also have electric universal fuel pumps, all the electrical bits, and all the tools, so if you're in a pinch and the closest auto part store is hours away, check around for tractor supply places.

It's sounds great Dan, it blows my mind to think that car was getting hot, that fan is like jet engine, 1 thing about a spare tire is you have 2 separate size tires, you don't want to have carry 2, I would think to bring with you is coolant, oil, a spare therostat, maybe a spare carburetor, hoses & etc, that car ought to appraise for at least 50k!👍😎

You should check to make sure the MSD distributor does not bottom out on the oil pump shaft. I bought one of those MSD distributors for my small block Chevy, and it was too long by about .020". When those distributors bottom out on the oil pump shaft the engine tries to push it out the engine. I put in .020" worth of distributor shims and a couple of distributor gaskets before it was seated into the oil pump shaft properly.

I street raced back in the day at the local dragstrip. They told me to teck-in. You can't have a rubber fuel line going from the fuel pump to the carburetor. It has to be a precision bent Hardline preferably 3/8th.dia behind the water pump.With only a short piece of fuel line connecting to the carburetor with.3to4in max length rubber hose. It might be a NHRA requirement.

Looks like things are looking up. Good job showing how to persevere and get it figured. And it sounds PROPER! Well done. BTW, I think it's important that you're showing there's different perspectives on the "good" hot rod experience: having fun and being rewarding. Fun is the easy version, but the rewarding experience, while not always fun, is almost always more meaningful.

One way to keep it consistently cooler is to run a bypass from the water pump to the intake. Chances are those aluminum heads do not have a steam pot perversion to match up to the ones that are in that older style sbc. I had to do the same with my 350 when I switched to vortec head and in doing so mine lives at 170-180. Cars looking great Dan.

I understand the why and wherefore about the pulleys, but, here's the but. Some old guy FYI, there's another way to do it, without changing water pumps and sides. The part numbers elude me, but there's a, I think it's early Vette, water pump pulley that does exactly what you want. It's smaller diameter, and also a double pulley! The solid lifter small blocks in the Tri-Fives, used to have a problem tossing belts. We would use the double pulley, overdrive the water pump, improve cooling, and using double pulley alternator, pretty much eliminated the belt tossing. Just something for future reference. That's how we did it in the 60's anyhow. Good luck, think you suffered enough already!
