I give 5 Tips and 3 Tidbits about what I am working on to help improve my antique booth sales in this economy. Not just sales really but my booth's overall economic efficiency could be improved. I know there's the option of going fully online with my small antique business but today I really wanted to focus in on those of us that just want to manage a booth and are looking for ways to do that during an economically tight time. I hope all these tips help in your vintage reselling & antique booth venture or if your just getting started. Don't be intimated by this economy. Tough times come & go. We just need to be smart and approach business a little differently moving forward, and maybe try some new techniques. We got this!
The Tips
1. Process what you already have. We all have a back stock of inventory just waiting for small fixes, a cleaning or to be priced. JUST DO IT! It's money that you're not making while it collects dust.
2. Facebook Marketplace is where people are looking for furniture. Use it to your advantage.
3. When you're ready to source again, be smart about your investing by being Thrifty & Picky.
4. Instagram is free and the easiest to use of major social media apps... It's the best place to find your next customer OR for them to find YOU.
5. How does your booth look? Is it well stocked? Do your prices make sense for the area? For this current market???
The Tidbits
1. Learn about antiques and vintage! Lots knowledgable people on youtube could tell you anything about any piece! @TheAntiqueNomad being one of them.
2. Maybe try out an event in your area. I usually recommend being a shopper first to scope out a market before investing in one but if events are popular in your area right now you might want to try out participating in one.
3. Have sale. I don't like running a sale in my booth all the time but if I was to have a sale I would make an event out of it so that your customers know that its special and not something that you would normally do.

I’m not a vendor I’m a collector/customer. My suggestions 1. Keep your booth clean. I don’t want to buy dirty or dusty. 2. Don’t make piles for me to dig through, I hate that. 3. Leave enough room for me to at least step into the booth and look. I bypass booths with so much on the floor I can’t even see what’s on the display. 4. Make prices clear. I don’t like having to ask to get a cabinet opened, if I could only see the price I would know instantly if I want to buy. 5. If there is damage, state it clearly. I know most vendors are honest about this but it’s a big help to a buyer, and yes, I do buy some chipped items if it’s not huge or noticeable. I know your videos are mostly for sellers and you make some great points. I’m just giving my perspective as a customer who shops Antique Malls every week, not for resale but my own collections. Thx. 😊

I've had a booth for about 3 years now and I work in the shop that I sell in as well. Here is the #1 thing I tell vendors that are struggling. MOVE YOUR STUFF AROUND OFTEN! 85% of our customer base are repeat customers. If your sales are slowing down, move your booth around. Refreshing a space always boosts sales. Always. If something has been there for a while, move it to a different spot, stage it totally differently than it was before and it usually sells. There are those pieces that just don't sell. So if it has been there for a long time and you have moved it all over your space, pull it for a while, refresh your space with new things and then in a few months, bring it back and see how it goes. But the best thing to do, move things around.

I know George (Antique Nomad)! Fun fact, his first live sale on RU-vid was with Misty, Thrifter Junker Vintage Hunter, and I was their audience. He wanted someone there to talk to cause he said he felt strange just talking to an empty room. Misty wasn't so sure, but I was quiet and asked questions or commented thru RU-vid. Misty forgot I was there, and George had someone to talk to, so it worked out! 😺

Before buying double check for damage. I started wearing a glove or I use a small section of towel to run over smalls to avoid purchasing damage items. I also do a double check before I hit the register or bid, I've reduced my dead pile by 80%.

My suggestion is to have sales on individual items, not booth-wide. Entire-booth sales scream of desperation. Of course, if the store or mall itself is having a sale, that’s different, and usually unavoidable.
@sailfly2869
@sailfly2869 8 месяцев назад
@@ddreeuws I’m in the Virginia Beach Antique Mall with two side by side booths and on average I sell over 250 each and every month and I buy extremely inexpensive items say no more than three or four dollars and price it for resellers and it is rare that my monthly check is less than $1,700.00 each and every month. Learn to price it to move it and condition is everything. Don’t get me wrong but small unusual furniture , wall art especially mirrors, Starbucks mugs, collectibles every now and then but always decorative and lamps sell the best. It doesn’t have to be old or even vintage to be valuable like MCM or DM are getting the best prices.

I was discussing this same topic with a friend this morning…moving through the hoard, shopping less, being a picky shopper, etc. It’s the social media thing I struggle with. I just don’t want to even though I know I need to. Ugggh.
@sailfly2869
@sailfly2869 10 месяцев назад
One thing I like to say is everybody likes a bargain and dealers shop everyday versus customers that shop only several times per month. With today’s customers condition is everything even with primitives. Since we started this strategy we are now selling more but better yet we are finding more valuable item’s since we now have more money to shop with. Price it to move it, just look at how much interest you make on your bank account. So don’t be afraid to just double or even triple your money on some things like small items.
@barbaraklee5655
@barbaraklee5655 10 месяцев назад
My pet peeve is when dealers write a higher price over an old price. Tags aren’t very expensive. I use my business cards for my tags. They’re quite reasonably priced at Staples and all my info is on them (also love a clever tag-stock ones are rather boring).

Love your insight into the antique booth world. I had a store for 20 some years and when I sold the buildings I as stuck with all the inventory which is stored in my garage and 2 storage units. I got into a good antique mall 3 years ago and have 2 booths. I wish I had one very large space where I could really display all my stuff but doing a lot with the spaces I have. I always get comments on how I display my merchandise to show people how to decorate their homes. I am really trying not to BUY anything but agree with you on how hard it is to stop. Especially when you see something that you know you could flip by just painting it etc. It is a disease all of us creative types struggle with. I love your videos. You are the BEST!!!

I recently did a clear out of about 1/3 of my pile and it was painful because I either tossed or redonated some early “mistakes.” I need to do instagram posts more regularly and plan to do facebook mp too. An aside-I was at Lucketts in May and was able to meet you and say hi! I bought two baskets and a fantastic ironstone platter! Thanks for all your advice!😊

So funny, I just recently went through my doom pile and either re-thrifted stuff or priced and put in my booth! I had a stellar selling month in July, hoping August will be just as good 👍🏻 I stock my booth with trends that are happening; right now vintage 70’s, boho, and vintage vinyl (my best seller!) My biggest tip is….if you can’t bring new inventory in, just move things around in your booth; bring things on the bottom to the top and visa versa, brings sales every time 👍🏻

I've been a life long collector,restorer,hoarder, auctioneer and everything in between when it comes to antiques. I don't proclaim to be an expert but I do know good stuff after over 30 years in the business . In my opinion. Antiques are an afterthought at antique shops now. Folks are no longer interested in an 18th century high boy or pewter cupboard. A fabulous 18th century tall case clock that was once valued in the thousands now sets collecting dust priced in the hundreds. Everything is a fad when it comes to home decor. Times change and taste change. In closing I would say to anyone who really loves Real antiques. Now is the time to buy

Great video Amanda! So many good tips :) If I could piggy back on one of them -INVENTORY MANAGEMENT! Second to being in a great location, I’ve always thought it’s one of the top reasons why people don’t make $$. You’re exactly right, those are dollar bills sitting in those boxes in your garage, and the slower you turn those dollar bills into more dollar bills, the less overall profit your business sees. It’s actually more profitable to sell less items quicker than more items over a longer period :) Thanks for sharing all your great tips!

Cutting to the chase- Please, more of this📢 ! As soon as my sales for the month match my booth(s) rent, I feel relief- but, ticked off that, it’s out of my hands as to which pieces sold in order to “make rent”. Is this emotion I have just me? I've been following you for about a year, shortly after I started my booth and vintage Etsy shop. Here's my $.02. Us old people (I'm 50) don't love Instagram as much a FB. For me Instagram is harder to use. My own 20+ yr old kids try to tell me that Insta is better than FB. My FB page does get a lot of traffic because my audience is probably in that 50+ age range. There is one thing that I didn’t mention is at the checkout counter when someone is checking out with my merchandise and ask for a discount the counter has my permission to give a 10% discount and if this isn’t enough then they can call me. This economy is getting a lot worse and day to day expenses are getting more expensive and that the resellers needs to realize this when pricing there goods.

@sailfly2869
@sailfly2869 10 месяцев назад
I hope that you folks understand that the more items shown increases your chances of selling, it doesn’t have to old to be valuable as in collectables and decorative items are always a plus. Of course pricing is an art that most don’t get it and tend to over price there items. I just don’t get it when you pay a few dollars for something that you have too get top dollar for your items, profit is profit no matter how you look at it and what is even more important is cash flow that you can count on. The old days of making big money is in the past with this economy and with smart devices the customer is now in control. Another thing that I see with the new generation of sellers is why are you into staging so much, when most customers are looking for small items to purchase and carry home, keep in mind that everyone likes a good deal. The only thing that is getting the big bucks in my area is “MCM” and “DM” and the style of furniture you carry should dictate the type of houses in your area for local sales.
@apriljenimac

People are more likely to buy if u have it staged so they can picture it in their home and online staging pics is everything
@sailfly2869
@sailfly2869 5 месяцев назад
@@apriljenimac Staging does look nice, but for me keeping my booth straighten and items in order seems to work the best without overloading the furniture with small items that in most cases are usually over priced by some. Well what works for me of course may not work for others, whereas for me I like moving items so that I’m always on the hunt for that particular item that shows up every now and then. Of course the more you shop the better your chances are finding that rare item for cheap.

Question: How can you sell a piece of furniture on Marketplace while it's for sale in your booth at an antique mall? What happens if it sells simultaneously? I can't just remove my price tag off the furniture and just let it sit there while for sale on marketplace or the owner might get upset knowing they won't be making a commission off it. If it sells on Marketplace, does the buyer pick it up from the antique mall? Now that would be hard for me to explain to the store owner. I would love to offer my stuff on marketplace while it is in my space at my local antique mall so I am interested in how this is done. Thank you!

I want people who will engage with the content, am i crazy? is it business suicide? Local selling is where it's at for me at the moment. Ebay is on it's last legs for me, so I started selling on OfferUp. I was feeling deflated cos my items weren't moving on my IG or youtube live sales and then I put them up locally and starting getting consistent sales regularly. So yes, you have to get your items infront of more eyes. I will try FBMP next. and no more sourcing for me either. Im right there with you. Thanks for a super helpful video!

Definitely do NOT do follow trains. Insta story hacking might be a better way to say it? 🤔
