A little scandal at Oakridge, fine silks soar at Madison Square Gallery, Stair Gallery has some choice pieces as well as some fine paintings from Arader Gallery on offer. Pair of blue and white jars soar to 30 times estimate, and much more from around the market.

it is my understanding that the brown used in old Persian rugs had iron in it, which oxidizes over time, causing their decline. Walnut husks sounds like a good explanation too. Love your channel BTW.

11:00 The big vase from Clar Gallery was originally sold at Oakridge. As you said, Oakridge did sell a lot of good stuff in the past, and this is one good example

The number one video I’d love to see you do is pointers on telling Chinese Imari apart from Japanese Imari. Geishas seem to be a pretty obvious differentiator that I like to think I’d catch. I’d like to know some of the more subtle differences. If the similar patterns/colors wasn’t confusing enough the fact that Japanese often used Chinese marks makes it even trickier. As you’ve said a lot of this stuff most of us are never going to find out in the wild. Imari, famille rose, Kutani, general Chinese export porcelain. At least this stuff we will see in our day to day buying. It would be great to learn about one of these more attainable varieties for us commoners. At least for me Imari is one I have trouble with. I just bought a couple nice pieces yesterday actually. One of them having a mark that is a little Chinese saying in Chinese characters. I assume the piece is Japanese despite the mark but I am not totally confident. My two cents.
