Thank you so much! The open-drives were very early on the market but were outmoded overnight by sealed units. They mostly died off in the 60's as it became harder to get people familiar enough to work on them. Then, there were the World War II scrap metal drives for the War effort, which took a massive toll on this sort of thing.
Beautiful and meticulous job David. I would be very "cool" if someone made refrigerators like this but with modern components. I love to have one in my kitchen. Of course they would never last this long.
What detergent do you use in the ultrasonic? I recall Fabuloso from older videos? What concentration? Amazing refrigerator! I’d love to know why GE spent the design money on a belt drive at that later date vs the monitor top. Maybe a cheaper alternative?
It is terribly hard to know why they built this! As for the ultrasonic, I use Fabuloso for delicate things such as rubber and things affected by caustic. For everything else including these thermostats; I use Zep Industrial Purple degreaser, full strength, at 60°C temperature.
