I restore a rusty old Van Camp axe. This axe restoration was fun project to restore. I decided to leave some of the burrs to keep that vintage look to the axe. I hope you enjoy watching this lost tool get restored.

Ah, it brings some good old memories. I still remember helping my grandfather chop woods and set up the camp for the visitors. Man, the restoration was marvellous.

Great work, just finished the same hatchet yesterday. I put the bevel on the right because I'm right handed.

I only see one problem with the axe, At the cutting edge the bevel is to steep! With a bevel like that you couldn't keep it sharp long very easy to dull it if the bevel was shallower it will stay sharp for a long time!!

You think so mate? Hm, now when I think of it, you're right. The bevel is problematic.

Great point, the angle was quite steep when I got it. I tried to file it down some. I probably could have gone more.

Если тут появятся русаки, которые шарят, то прошу ответить! Первый раз вижу топор с такой односторонней заточкой - это вообще норм или нет? И второй вопрос: после восстановления кромки напильником ее закалять разве не нужно?

The edge shouldn't have been that large of an angle, but it looks like the previous owner over did it.
