next time, use sewing machine oil on a soft rag to clean up and polish the machine, you removed the sphinx decal which is a huge part of the value of this machine. If you want your projects to fetch a good price preserving the decals and the original lacquer is important, even if the decals are not in perfect condition. Based only on the decal this machine is from the 1910's it would have been quite a valuable piece if you had looked up true cleaning techniques to preserve the machines original decals.
@@egamer3350 it is a type.of lubricant oil that doesn't harder and doesn't react to the decal work. It is easy to purchase at sewy and craft shops for cheap
Actually if the serial number was visible on the front plate this machine is dated 1906 production. I have one that I just purchased to restore. Also I know of a website where you can purchase the Sphinx decals if you wished to restore them back onto the machine as well.
Thank you for saying this. I inherited my grandmother's Singer sewing machine that was made in 1898. When I saw him spray paint over the design work, I nearly cried.
I know Like I have that same machine and the decals in horrible condition and when I saw this one it was in perfect condition and should’ve been cleaned instead
@@jtizzle2132 🔴 What Is Islam? ⚠️ 🔴 Islam is not just another religion. 🔵 It is the same message preached by Moses, Jesus and Abraham. 🔴 Islam literally means ‘submission to God’ and it teaches us to have a direct relationship with God. 🔵 It reminds us that since God created us, no one should be worshipped except God alone. 🔴 It also teaches that God is nothing like a human being or like anything that we can imagine. 🌍 The concept of God is summarized in the Quran as: 📖 { “Say, He is God, the One. I really enjoyed your suggestions. No one else shows what to do when the top layer has peeled off and cracked. You also showed me just how to take everything apart. All the clamping and gluing were great. Also how to sand the paint off of the side metal parts. Although I would have saved the decals myself you taught me a lot.
Oh dear NO...That is not a restoration its a rebuild ! and to paint out the Sphinx design means I will not buy you a pint !!! Restore the veneer stick it down, refinish it, dont change it. Let the age of the machine live !.
So many things wrong with this video. I guess that’s why it’s called DIY crafts, and not DIY restore or restoration. At least that’s what I kept having to tell myself as I watch the video.
This is a clear example of people know knowing or caring about the value of something. Just because you think it looks better does not mean it's worth a petty penny. Had things stayed in tact and you just gave it a nice refresh, this thing would be worth a lot! But all the value was just sprayed away with the paint 😥
Do the antique world a favor and just stay away from any more "restoring" projects. You clearly have no idea how restoration works. You diminished the potential value by a lot.
My mom passed in November and she had my grandmas sewing machine and my great grandmas . We looked up the serial number of one of thembits from 1905...im waiting for the series number of the other one.
Every ones a critic mate, thanks for the video in fast time, gives me an idea of what I need to do with my next find, in just a few minutes Cheers .{: where can you buy top quality decals for these machines?
What a shame you removed the decals. Also I would have polished the iron than spray it and renewed the veneer or used a wood conditioner before stain to give a more even stain.
Though I think painting over the machine with black was not the best idea but I still rather have it looking clean and new than old and yucky.....good work I love ❤ but I would still and buy the decals 😁
