What a discovery. Well done. I recently picked up an Arts & Crafts presentation sugar shaker with wartime inscription. I have an inkling why it was presented, but it's a research project in progress. It really is the better for being inscribed.
Amazing item and a lovely find! I think since my last comment got auto-deleted for including links I will note the competion this trophy is for has its own web page at Chess Scotland - West of Scotland Championship and the winners have their own biographies written up as well.
@@michaelbaggott-rk1lh I thought so! From playing a bit of chess and collecting a bit of silver I knew straightaway there would be something, if there is a group that loves documents as much as silver collectors it's chess players...
I have a related interest- I collect inscribed watches, and have some marvelous ones - but it is a shame they have lost their family connections. I have one presented by a titled nobleman to what I assume was a doctor or nursing agency in thanks for helping his aunt through her illness. I just wish that I could contact the family for greater detail.
A great item.... a unique item. Might help if the BBC were to commision a hit chess themed period tv drama. Or if a "game of thrones" twist could bring the game some sex appeal into the imagination of a wider audience. As a bridge player i have long since been relugated to the "boring zone" by friends. 😅
