It's crazy how the first interview I'm seeing of Antoine Fuqua is on a sports show. What a shame. I also liked what he had to say in regard to the protest. These athletes shouldn't feel the need to take a knee if the people in power would step up and do the right thing.

Highly recommend listening to his director's commentary on Training Day...riveting.

Absolutely. In those director's (almost scene-by-scene) comments, Antoine really gives insights into how a director thinks, what he's looking for and also, perhaps most revealing, he points out how giving actors freedom to act, improvise and ad lib can result in some of the most significant and best remembered scenes in a movie.

Love that he shouted out the 7 Samurai - of course( as MS is the 2nd American remake of it). Anything done by the GREAT Kurosawa is tough to replicate. I look forward to seeing the movie. For those of you who haven't seen any Kurosawa films! man!

Nah, they specialize in very different genres. Fuqua's more of throwback to the highly polished 90's action and crime blockbusters and Tarantino is more inclined towards pop culture and the exploitation films of the 60's and 70's .

Antoine made a good impression here, but as far as his movies with Denzel go, I don't understand why they have to be so violent. Psychological pressure, or drama, can be as much a powerful cinematic tool as violence can, only that it isn't as graphic. Training Day was a good movie, but needlessly violent. The Equalizer, much too violent and a pretty poor movie. The Magnificent Seven, a very poor movie with no intellectual content but only pointless shooting and fighting. I don't get it, why does Denzel stick with Fuqua?
