This is the overture to the one-act opera "Raphael: Musical Scenes from the Renaissance" by Russian composer Anton Arensky, a student of Rimsky-Korsakov and disciple of Tchaikovsky. The subject matter of the opera is the great painter Raffaello Sanzio and the apparent conflict between his sublime religious artwork and his all-too-earthly passion for the model Margarita Luti, the subject of the famous semi-nude painting "La Fornarina" ("The Baker").
