As a teenage girl around this time, I found Todd to be absolutely fascinating. He was uniquely attractive to me. I got to meet him once when I was in my early 20s after a concert. He was very nice and took pictures with us and signed autographs so it was not disappointing to meet one of my heroes.
Excellent "lost" interview. The date I put on it is November, '73, since the interviewer said that "the President just fired everybody". The "Saturday night massacre happened on 10/20/1973. Todd waxes quite prescient in the last 5 minutes of the video. How can you not love Todd ?!
Beautiful timepiece. Kudos to the interviewer, as silly as he seemed. He actually did a great job. Interestingly, Todd really hasn't changed all that much.
I love how Todd got the guitar tuned and started singing! Really amazed by his confidence and being vocally ready! Beautifully talented and great sense of humor
A lot of criticism for the interviewer here but this is one of Todd’s most relaxed & forthcoming interviews, especially in the early years when he was socially awkward & could come across as almost unpleasant. The interviewer is upbeat, friendly & cheerful, doesn’t try to be anything he’s not & it brings out the best in Todd. I think he knew what he was doing and did a great job.
So amazing to see this rare interview and the Todd I found April ‘72. It instantly struck me that he already had his habit of saying ‘stuff like that’, which he still does 🤩
Refusing to play one of his biggest hits at the time. Everything I love and admire about the artist is on full display here, even this early on in the game. Balls deluxe....
Oooof, it's hard to listen to an interviewer who obviously did not listen to Todd's music, let alone get the song title(s) right. Todd was/is/will always be one of the most amazing artists in modern history.
Well, this is obviously sheer GOLD (even though some of the questions make 16 Magazine look like a peerless tome of journalism…). Thank you for posting.
@@malcolmsmith8281 It's footage from three songs of the Nearly Human sessions that "appeared" on the TRConnection. Well, exactly it's a dvd burnt by a member of the TRConnection forums at the time. It was reburnt and sent to whom wanted it.

An small low power FM station in my hometown of Edmond, OK claims they were the first station in the country to play "Hello It's Me" off of Something/Anything in rotation. I knew the owner. He showed me a framed gold record they had from the record company with a note thanking them for launching the song as a single on a small brass plaque on the frame.
He does it HIMSELF!!🤩Coolest interview with Todd EVER..."conducted" by an IMBICILE!!!😄It looked like it was gonna be a trainwreck, but Todd held it together by being tolerant and being himself!! What else would you expect from him, right??
Finally, Todd admits, in his own words, that The Nazz is code for “the Nazarene”, I.e.., Jesus. At 15:05. Lifelong fans know that the lyrics to many many of his songs speak to themes attributed to Jesus in the Gospels. Usually he avoids discussing any meaning or purpose to his songs. This is the only time I’ve ever heard him admit it. Todd is Godd, as fans like to say.
He was sort of humble back then, but then started coming across like he has the answers to everything with his metaphysical BS. Traditional Christianity is not something that he prescribes to and I don't think he believes in having a dialog with those who don't see eye to eye with him. He has truly become what he was always against.
