He was born in Verona and received early music education there. Probably from 1624, he was employed as court musician in Vienna by Emperor Ferdinand II. In 1649 Bertali succeeded Giovanni Valentini as court Kapellmeister. He died in Vienna in 1669. (Wikipedia)

@lelutindecouves, La Folia itself is quite old, probably from folk antiquity. Many composers did a variation on it.

Finally Leopold I was nothing less than Emperor! [...]The Regina Coeli, one of the numerous religious compositions of Leopold I, bears the inscription: accompagnamento di viole del Anthonio Bertaly. (slipcase Ricercar consort).

Very interesting and beautiful. What is the date of the composition? It has touches of Schuetz and touches of Monteverdi in it. Middle 17th century? I had never heard of Bertali. Thank you for introducing us to this composer.
