This song and Antonio Sanchez have given me new respect for drum solos. Phenomenal. He is layering different rhythms and colors to this piece. Amazing-this is truly his moment. The vocalese by Richard Bona at the end is extraordinary!! Antonio throws in a Samba rhythm too. Awesome!!!
The ultimate independence drummer... simply amazing how Antonio can separate every limb of his body in different rhythms & patterns and still keep time!!!
the most amazing part about this solo is that on top of the amazing technique used by sanchez the solo starting from 8:38 sounds just about how you would expect a brewing storm, or a "gathering sky" over a tropical region to sound if it was able to make music.
3 minutes into his solo I kept saying "Damn, he can't do that clav pattern", but he came with it. That pattern is crazy. It's like he has multiple rhythms going on at the same time. Wish they'd put it on the album
