Music and vocals and Farya Faraji. Artwork by J.F Oliveiras, please check out his work on Artstation or Instagram, he makes the most beautiful accurate visual reconstructions of Ancient Iranian cultures. Please note that this isn't reconstructed music from the Sasanian Era, it's entirely modern Iranian music but with a historical theme.
Khosrow Anushirvan was the Shahanshah (King of Kings) of the Sasanian Empire from 531 to 579. Widely regarded as one of the greatest kings of the Sasanian dynasty, if not the greatest, to the point where his name, Khosrow, would become a synonym for the term "King," a reality still in use in Modern Persian, where terms like "kingly" or "royal" are often derived from Khosrow. His reign was marked by ambitious construction projects, and a flourishing of architectural and urban projects, as well as cultural ones.
Much of his reign was characterised by the intense rivalry with the Eastern Roman "Byzantines," who would fight him for control of regions such as the Caucasus and Lazica.
He would make the Academy of Gondishapur, a centre of knowledge and sciences flourish, and it is argued that under his reign, the Sasanian Empire may have been the most developed power of the Old World in technological and cultural terms. The knowledge in various fields of sciences he promoted would serve as one of the bases from which the later Islamic Golden Age would become possible in the first place, and his character would become synonymous, even in Roman thought, as the epitome of the Philosopher King.
The instrumentation consist of a daf, tombak, a barbad, qanun and ney, most of these instruments having existed in some form during the Sasanian Era. The mode used is Shur, one of the principal modes or maqams of Iranian music. The time signature is 9/8, one sometimes found across parts of Iran, and the lyrics are in Middle-Persian, except for the Anushirvan epithet which is a later New Persian form of anūšag-ruwān, which means "Immortal Soul."
Lyrics in Middle-Persian:
Drod abar tō, Husrow,
Abarwez ud perozgār,
Čašm ud sare Eran,
Sāyag e Auramazda,
Čašm ud sare Eran,
Anushirvan
Edon nibišt estad ku,
Pas az marge e Kawād
Husrow Shāhānshāh bud,
Shah i Eran ud Aneran
Edon nibišt estad ku,
Husrow Shah e Wuzurg bud,
Husro Anushirvan,
Yazdān tōhm winārdār
English translation:
Salutations upon you, Khosrow,
Glorious and victorious,
Eyes and head of Iran,
Shadow of Ahura Mazda,
Eyes and head of Iran,
Immortal Soul
Thus it is written,
That after Kavad's passing,
Khosrow was King of Kings,
King of Iranians and non Iranians,
Thus it is written,
Khosrow was a great King,
Khosrow the Immortal Soul,
Restorer of the Gods

As an Iranian-American in 2024, I understand 90% of the lyrics and that fact blows me away because this form of Persian stopped being spoken ~ 1400 years ago. If you go even further back to Achaemenid Persian from 500 BCE, I am able to understand approximately 40-50% which is arguably even more amazing.

Always something interesting to find out - Persian language changed significantly during the centuries. Makes sense, but still intriguing. Do you mind elaborating on that? What are the differences between this Persian and modern-day Farsi?
@artinrahideh1229
@artinrahideh1229 28 дней назад
@@BartlomiejDmowskiThe Persian used in this video is a flawed version of Middle Persian or Pārsīg( as called by its native speakers). The reason i say flawed is because of some words such as "Ahurā mazdā" which is an Avestan and Old Persian word( it had become "Ōhrmazd" or "Hormozd" by the Sasanian era Persian) not a middle Persian one. Anyways, The story of Persian language starts from where all the Iranic languages start: the Indo-Iranic separation. Indo-Iranic peoples who were one people(calling themselves Aryans as they would for millennias to come) with one language(perhaps with various dialects and ) became separated in c.2000 B.C. and gradually started to form a different culture than each other. One of the ways this happened was in their language. The Iranic group of languages formed as a result of this and luckily we have a fairly old language in our hands to trace the development of Iranic languages: The Avestan language from c.1200 B.C. preserved in the poems of Zoroasther, the prophet of Zoroastherians. The language of these poems( known as Gathas) is a bronze age language that has a relatively rich amount of vocabulary and a developed syntax system for a language spoken by semi-nomads who haven't even discovered salt or iron. This language which is the oldest Iranic language knwon and in terms of words, morphology, etymology and etc. the mother of all other Iranic languages, gradually gave rise to other ones and itself became a dead language. As a result, languages such as Median, Old Persian, Old Bactrian, Scythian and etc. developed from it or at least were influenced by the prestigious language of their religion. Strabo realized this and wrote in his Geographica that all these peoples from Media and Persis to Sogdia and Aryana speak the same language with some regional differences. This is why we can trace many words of Old Persian to Old Avestan.
@artinrahideh1229
@artinrahideh1229 28 дней назад
@@BartlomiejDmowskimoving forward, during the late Achaemenid period the Persian language started to change and become simplified. By the end of Mecadonian empire, it had become the Middle Persian written in Aramaic script. Many words and forms became simplified and most of the modern Persian words( Iranic words) today have a small bit of difference compared to the middle Persian forms. Some examples: Old Persian: Auramazdā/ Middle Persian: Ohrmazd/ New Persian: Hormozd Asa/Asp/Asb Daiva/Dēw/Dēw Bājiš/Bāj/Bāj Martya/Mard/Mard Spāda/Spah/Sepāh

It took me a few tries to finally listen to the whole music, it carries so much weight. Khosrow Anushirvan isn't just a "great" shah(king) of old Iran, he's a symbol of Imperial Iran, a symbol of Iran's monarchy(just like Cyrus the great or Darius the great). He's name still carries this weight to this date...

the triple iranian empires of achameneid, arsacid and sassanians were truly the height of Iranian civilization as a hegemonic world power. Everything that came after became a farce, even though the safavids, and zandis werent as bad. The qajars and the pahlavis were an absolute farce.

*_Khosrow I Anushirwan was known for his character, virtues and knowledge. During his ambitious reign, he continued his father's project of making major social, military, and economic reforms, promoting the welfare of the people, increasing state revenues, establishing a professional army, and founding or rebuilding many cities, palaces, and much infrastructure. He was interested in literature and philosophy, and under his reign, art and science flourished in Iran. He was the most distinguished of the Sasanian kings, and his name became, like that of Caesar in the history of Rome, a designation of the Sasanian kings. Due to his accomplishments, he was hailed as the new Cyrus._* *_At the time of his death, the Sasanian Empire had reached its greatest extent since Shapur II, stretching from Yemen in the west to Peshawar in the east._*

@ShabrangBehzad Год назад
Anushirvan's epithet in Middle Persian translates more closely as "lawgiver" than "just" as دادگر (daadgar) means someone who codifies laws, then again a true lawgiver is one who upholds justice or daad.

@@ShabrangBehzad It's like Suleiman the magnificent he was known as Kanuni Sultan (lawgiver sultan) and Khosrow Anushirwan was known as Dadgar Shahanshah.

You have composed the hymn to Theodora, Belisarius and Husrow Anushirwan, you should also compose the song to Justinian. Please don't make him wait too long. 😢😢😢😢😢 BTW, I'm so delighted to hear the tune of Husrow, The worst foe of Justinian.
