Steve sucks at it. He writes really good riffs though and is a good guitar player. Good, not great. I take that back. After writing the first paragraph i watched Steve's solo. He is a mediocre guitar player at best. Good riff writer though.
The True Spinal Tap!! Look these guys up..There the definition of a REAL live Rock and roll band!!! . Everything that can go wrong did, but they stood there ground, pick themselves up more than a hundred times, and ROCKED ON!!!!! And there still going!!!! True friends, and a true, real life band.. Oh, and Rob...truly one of the best drummers....he plays his drums, he doesn't hit or smash the drums, and he easily shows that.. anyone' can be a drummer but few can play. This man plays, and lives his drums, that"s Obvious. Well done boys!!! 40 Years +
I wouldn't say it was sad.. I watched the movie many times couple years back, I think it's a good movie about life and friendship. It was a fun movie. I was also struggling with my bullshit band back then and there were lots of things to idetify with.. :D but yeah, I'm happy these guys are still playing.
They weren't pretty enough for the 80s, lips' voice wasn't good enough, and the songs were too raunchy and juvenile. It's no secret why they didn't make it.
this band should undoubtedly be much more recognized ... more however they are an example of persistence, overcoming and love of music ... fight for your dreams

I fucking love this band. I don't care about technical ability. They always play like it is the last time they will ever get to play their instruments! A true joy to behold!
These guys deserve so much more. One of the big bands that were influenced by Anvil should take them on tour, christ they are in their 50's so can't have much touring time left!
Anvil is one band that has been through hell and back....and here they still are rockin out and doing what they wanted to do from day one. I've known this band since they started, not personally but as a fan. A 3 piece heavy metal band from Canada was not an easy thing to accomplish in the early 80's. (I know!) LOL BTW...going to see them next friday in Kingston ...that's April 21 people. Let's rock!
If I'm not mistaken, Rob didn't make one "mistake" during his solo. Never once hit the snare frame...or any other drum frame for that matter. It's like a hole-in-one drum solo.
They deserve the world. I mean - look at Lips: He's not playing a fancy amp or guitar, he's doing rhythm guitars, lead guitars and vocals and keeps the band on track. Show some love for the innovators of speed metal.
Same here. My band opened for them in Illinois a couple years after the movie came out. Had the chance to talk to Lips and then Rob for an hour. Great guys. Rob's son was their roadie. Glynn 5 didn't talk to anyone that I remember. The show was small but they played it like it was a stadium. Lips was in your face. So happy to see them doing what they love still.
ANVIL is one of the greatest Metal bands of all time. If you're not sure or under the age of 40 go back and listen to their full albums. If you're mature musically, listen to this masterpiece.
Wow the Netflix documentary made I️t seem like these guys were up there with Metallica and anthrax and all these bands and that they just weren’t at the right place at the right time... after watching this the real problem is obvious. They need a lead guitar player, and a lead vocalist would have been a nice addition but not 100% necessary. Lips is perfect at rhythm guitar. And he’s a good singer.
The documentary paints them as being some kind of guys that never got their shot but just listen and that's actually why. Plus look at the Wacken pen they are in compared to say. Immortal or Arch enemy. Dated fist rock
Honestly I didn’t know enough about Anvil back in the day but the movie told a great story that made me want to root for them. The ONE thing that bands like ANVIL have as currency that CANNOT be taken away is their musical history It’s simply something that cannot be duplicated I hope they always do well they certainly deserve it
When the music becomes more than a gig or a performance it becomes your soul and ANVIL has lived the rock and roll soul for years without stopping, bravo boys.
I completely respect what these guys do, their honesty for music and what they stand for. I mean no disrespect to the band but they need a second lead guitar player that is completely different than them to add some flavor. Shorten up some of the songs to keep the listener interested. A fantastic lead player and the best producer around could change things a lot.
True in a way. They deserve a second guitar player. But I guess it's a matter of money. They may be financially a bit better off after their documentary but sure ain't making millions.

I still think another guitarist would make them sound better but I admire the fact they never stopped, that's tenacity fir ya! Anvil deserve to be bigger!
I Love - Anvil - the best power metal, Lips and Rob - masters ! Rob is a perfect drummer. Lips is a perfect guitarist. They are both wonderful, I love this band for over 36 years!
All the haters has the same problem...they have nothing better to do with their sad and grey lifes.If we are talking of lack of skills or timing lost, or lack of rithm guitars in the solos, or bad liricks, well they are pure raw actittud, but not everybody understand this.This guys are near 60 gears old... thing about that in the first place, they are more than admirable for the energy they put, love for music,so fuck perfection, because rocknroll are precise that this guys deliver, good enought for a lot of us.The cementery of virtuocism is filled with people thay havent done anything with their music, nocthing...even in this sheety country ( chile) know this guys, japan and a long etc.So heater with all my respect...when you work pass overseas im shure you will stop hating...hate is for loosers respectfully
The Thing is they are super nice humans and They have been around for so long , Im from the Toronto area and I even remember Anvil back in the early 80’s and its nice to see an 80’s act still playing so many decades later.
Without a Rhythm Guitarist the bass doing his best to support lips.... Great jolly old Metal fellows enjoying that stage good for them. But they seriously need a Rhythm lol I'd audition! I've been playing Rhythm guitar style for 11 years! If any tryouts come up it be a pleasure!
That was really good, I am glad I watched that all the way through. Very moving, what a great fan base. those people all looked so cool. That looked fun.

No offence but seeing them I feel pretty sad and more so for Rob. He could have had a better career with some other band. But its fine since they love what they do and they enjoy doing it. Its fine!
I saw more than 500 live shows in my life, some of them at Wacken Open Air Festival, let me tell you one thing, a good live show is when the artist on the stage enjoying himself, i never saw Anvil live and it's a shame, Lips said on that show that he's having the best time of his life, what a great moment for him and for the band, these guys are a living legends!!!
Even the new stuff has a very definitely dated sound to the early 80s, and that really sad movie about them really my heart went out to them wanting something so badly and just seeming never to get a break, it's really cool to see them able to get out and do their thing.
