Looks a great thing , you can have confidence in the product to . I was never sure about the heaters people were fitting a couple of years ago but with the gas issue emerging its good to know these products ate available. Thanks for sharing H and M
Our rapido family PVC has the truma completely buried in cabinet work under the fixed bed with no access to it whatsoever. Idiots, but i hear they are well known for it, they just don't seem to care. Truma engineers won't honour any warranty work if they can"t access it. Fantastic workmanship rapido!
My Chausson had the truma 6De and my new Dreamer living Van camper has the truma 4DE. They have both been absolutely fantastic 100% reliable with no gas use anxiety. Only have a camping gaz 907 bottle for the hob as we’ve got a DOMETIC compressor fridge too. You won’t be disappointed 👌🏽👌🏽
Hi R and H🙂. There can’t be a single thing you haven’t got on that van now! A good investment I believe, we spec’d it on our van but need to look at a lithium battery one day coz it does drag the battery down on start up.
Yeah they do pull some power starting up, lithium is a great addition it takes the worry away. We are slowly turning the van into what we ordered 🤣 more to come…..
Yes Rick when I on the lorry back in the 80's had Diesel Heater the best thing we had . We got one in are Auto Sleeper reel good you never know we my see you both one day.
EU vans mostly seem to have truma gas heaters, not good with so many UK garages dropping autogas. Ours is a gas truma. Alternative would be to find a space for one of the better chinese diesel heaters or that russian designed made in i think lavia. They are a fraction of the size of a truma which could still be used for just heating water.
It does seem the U.K. are getting rid of gas at an alarming rate, the nail in the coffin for us was that we’ve always had to divert 25 miles from home to get it or make a diversion on route to find it but last fill up in July there was an engineer fixing the one we pulled up at and he said he’d removed 96 pumps so far and there were more to do. The heating uses lots of gas and we like to be off grid, diesel is plentiful. We’re happy with the swap.
Having had boats, with Webasto ( great) and Eberspacher (awful) diesel heaters, I find myself with underslung Whale space heater and underslung water heater which depend on electricity or, very hard to find gas ( underslung gas tank). I will change for diesel, but it's not easy to find companies that will undertake a swop, especially in Southern England. My first camper, had Webasto and it was simple, reliable with the required fuel already on board. I wish converters would fit as standard, or at least give option to spec.
Definitely needs to be something done by dealers to increase supply, we were just having to divert more and more to find it, this is way better for us.
Pleased you are happy with it - looked like a simple enough swap out which is always good! Woody looked similar to Roxy 🐾 You forget you need gas tests etc - Be keen to see how you get on long term. All the best, David & Rachel 👍
Same physical size “luckily” they had put the thicker wire required for diesel when the van was built or it would have been a bit longer but it’s amazing heat wise!
Looks good, and something we may think about in the future. We're OK at the moment as we have 3 places nearby, and they've all said they have no intention of stopping the supply. Because we have a compressor fridge/freezer, our only gas use is for water/heating and cooking. I tend to do most of the cooking outside on a double ring stove if we're away for a while, or a single one if just a few days. Can't do that in the winter and we eat out instead.. lol. Another good video, enjoy and happy camping.
@@RickandHeather 25 miles can soon add up, we're lucky as we pass at least one on our way off and 2 on our way back. It seems that they are shutting down a lot of the LPG stations, but we're lucky up here as the majority of the Highlands doesn't have mains gas, so there's a big market for it. Here's a fact for you to consider:- "In Scotland, about 86% of properties have access to mains gas. However, the Highlands and Islands have a 66% rate of properties without access to mains gas". It's quite annoying as we can see the rigs from our window with a good pair of binoculars.. Happy days..
@tomaitchison8726 a big decision was the last time we filled up an engineer was fixing the pump and he said he’s taken 96 out so far this year (that was in July)
You can find diesel within 5 minutes of your house and anywhere, we’re having to search or divert to find gas, in winter we can use a tank of gas in a few days….
@@RickandHeatherI’m interested to see how the gas supply network diminishes in the future. Our CV40 is the same as your CV20 was with combined electric and gas water heater and van heater. We tend to use electric hook up a lot so we use them on electric rather than gas so as you do we only use gas for cooking. We currently have a garage 7 miles away but if that goes our next pump gas supplier is 25 miles away. Not good.
I have bench seat gas strut envy! Is there just the one strut per bench ? And if you have a moment then please could you see if there are any spec / product markers on the strut ? I'd like to retro fit to our Consort, which has pretty much the same bench/cushion arrangement!
It’s not a cheap conversion, Google will tell you the price on the diesel heater then it’s obviously the fitting cost… What one place charges will vary. I don’t want to discuss money on here I hope you understand 👍
Hi Ric just read the comments as I was going to ask how much and if you sold the old gas boiler, I have a 3 year old Wildax Solaris , with a gas boiler and thinking about putting a diesel one in, I assumed to total replacement cost about £2200 am I somewhere close. Thanks Keith
I'm really interested to know how you are finding it as I've got my van booked in with Truma for the same switch as I'm fed up of worrying about using and finding lpg 😊
I don't think it will be too long when all new Campervans & Motorhomes are all fitted with diesel heaters and induction hobs. Gas will be made redundant.
I was surprised how big the diesel heater is - I thought they were half that size, but perhaps I'm thinking of the ones that are just air heaters. I wonder if one will fit in our old van.
@cathrynbagley8005 yes the initial fire up and ignition is fairly high draw but once running it’s relatively frugal but obviously it’s got a fan to blow the air around the van 👍
