this is brick and mortar rebuild recruiting. grit guys. similar to Coach D's first few classes. takes time. nice to see a focus on QB with this staff along with Offensive line. Go Green!
Speaking as a Michigan fan I think State got a good coach it will just take some time State will get bettter recruting They just need to win more I think Smith is a good coach they will win just give it some time
Just as I said…both Afalava and Kaahaina-Torres have now both committed elsewhere. So, who are we now recruiting for inside offensive linemen? Battles are won in the trenches. Not recruiting Kaden Strayhorn may go down one of the dumbest recruiting decisions I’ve ever seen. We literally failed to even attempt to recruit a legacy, high-ranking player in a position of need! WTF?! How could this staff blow this? I can forgive the Gach loss. Sure his parents are MSU alum, but Kaden’s dad is on a different level. Jason was not only a football team captain, but he’s a current piece of the broadcast team and runs an MSU podcast. I’ll hold out hope till we hire the next coach. I have zero confidence in Smith after this blunder.
I have confidence in Smith and believe that he'll bring MSU back to playing a high level of football. I think you need to look at what he accomplished at OSU versus him not getting a couple of legacy recruits. This guy knows how to coach and how to build a program. Having zero confidence in a successful coach before he even coaches his first game at his new program is really quite laughable🤣🤣🤣
@@jeffyoung2432laughable, eh? A major part of this job is recruiting. Like I said, the Gach loss I’ll give him a pass on. But Strayhorn?! Please, tell me who we are now targeting for IOL? You can’t coach players you don’t have! Are we really only going to take 1 IOL player this cycle with Drew Nichols? We have 6 on scholly this year and 3 are graduating. That doesn’t leave much depth the next couple of seasons.
@@shawnlpeterson I think that you're missing some IOL who are on scholarship this season. Dellinger, Miller, Broscious, Phillips, Fincher, Newman, Johnson, and Dennis are all on scholarship and will be with the team this fall. Jim Michalczik has done an excellent job developing olineman. Miller went from walkon to All-PAC12 under JM. I'm guessing that some of walkon IOL will earn a couple of the 4 remaining scholarships for 2024. At least 5 scholarship IOL on the 2024 roster are underclassman. If Nichols ends up being the only IOL in the class of 2025, then Smith will likely add more via the portal. We don't know all the rationale behind MSU not offering Strayhorn. If you're upset about it and have no confidence in CJS then that's how you feel🤷♂ Myself, I'll remain optimistic that Coach Smith is the right choice to lead MSU back to respectability. I'm not going to judge him before he ever coaches a game at MSU. Especially, since Smith already has a history of building a successful program from the ground up.
Let’s not forget the golden era of Dantonio was full of 3 star recruits with 20% or so 4 star recruits thrown in. Dantonio and his staff were great in developing 3 stars recruits into all big ten talent. I am hopeful that this new staff can do the same thing.
The issue now however is that kids aren't waiting around to even be developed. When you can jump from school to school, anyone who isn't seeing the field till later on in their playing career may not want to wait around for that. Dantanio didn't have to contend with NIL and free transfers till later in his career.
If MSU shows improvement in offense and defense this season, and I believe it will, recruits will take notice. I don’t think people really understand how big a hole the Tucker regime dug. Bigger recruits will come.
You know you're down bad when your whole fan base is outraged at Central frickin Michigan. Talk about punching down. Though in MSU's case, it may not actually be punching down.
Whats more sad is that a staff member felt the need to dress in a disguise on CMU’s sideline to steal signs from a bad football team. It tells me that they cheated for every single game they played. Obvious blatant cheating.
