I can't get over how the animators were able to convey the subtle difference in their dancing between when Anya was leading and when Dmitri was leading.
Studios nowadays are too lazy and cheap to pay animators to do hand drawn animation. 2d takes longer and requires more talent. That’s why Japan is the only one left doing it anymore, they see the value in it.
but to think about it, she must be a teenager, i mean anya just got out of the orphanage, but then again adults looked older back then than we are doing now.
@@Gamergirl-172 that’s what I was thinking, the way they captured their actions and wrote their dialogue, if they weren’t in love well they certainly must know what real love is anyway!
The writing and the execution are superb in this movie my animation crushes are highly affected by the male lead's looks and I don't even LIKE how Dimitri looks but I think he's so hot with Ana lmao
Something about this movie's animation is so realistic, every movement, every facial expression. The little details of 2d animation is just fascinating!
one of my favorite scenes is in the theater where she’s just anxiously ripping up a napkin, and Dimitri notices, holds her hand, and tells her it’s going to be okay. They are literally the BEST disney couple, it’s insane EDIT: Ok y’all, NOT DISNEY. I hear ya. Best animated couple on Disney+, then
This is honestly the best chemistry any Disney couple ever had. I love it. (Edit: Guys I know it's Don Bluth, no need to comment about it anymore lol. I should rephrase my comment: their chemistry is better than that of any Disney couple.)
If the timeline is similar, they'll be dead. Anastasia as a part of Romanov family, Dmitry for his "job", cannot imagine Bolsheviki not to pay attention to such a nonsense in Leningrad.
What irritates me about this is that everyone thinks it's bloody Disney. I used to watch this film back in 2005 when I was old enough to watch films: I preferred it to any Disney film due to it feeling much more realistic dialogue wise. It doesn't give me Disney vibes- the writing is far better. I hate the fact Disney now own FOX, because they re-released one of their films when this film was originally released to take the spotlight away- it backfired on them luckily as the film still made it big. Disney also did the same thing back in 1994 with The Swan Princess- however unfortunately it did work with that one and many people don't know it exists. Disney may own the rights to FOX now, however this film is NOT theirs and never will be: they didn't create it. It's like how Family Guy will never be theirs, they just own the company. I like Disney films, however the company has grown extremely greedy like most company's and it makes me sad that people grow so money driven when they already have all the money in the world. Anastasia holds a special place in my heart. It's sort of what you wish did happen in real life instead of the cruel fate her and her family endured. Just to clarify I am not hating on Disney in whole, as their films are still good... I just dislike how money driven they have become over the years. I wish Anastasia wasn't on Disney+ due to the fact they behaved like children and attempted to steal the spotlight. FOX challenged Disney and made them feel threatened. Just goes to show how brilliant this film was and is. They may own the rights to FOX, however this film will never be theirs completely- they didn't create it :)
I love this movie. And it also irritates me that everyone thinks it's Disney, just because that's not accurate. That said, the quality of Disney animation is significantly better.
@@jennv2948 Disney have always had excellent quality in their animations. Only flaw I could give is more of a preference rather than an actual technical flaw and that's realism. I've never seen realism from them, however that said it's not meant to be so I've never slated them for that. My favourite animations from them isn't even theirs technically and it's from Pixar.. Pixar are their own independent studio.. Toy Story 4 blew me away, the texture and lighting during the opening scene in the rain was phenomenal. My initial reaction to the animation when I first watched it in the cinema was to say out-loud with wide eyes- "This is fucking stunning- that rain!!" It had others near to me laughing. I also enjoy DreamWorks animations- I've never seen awful work in terms of animation from them. What I enjoy about the animation during this film is the realism in their faces and how they move, so much that it used to half freak me out as a kid. Felt like I was watching real people, yet I knew I wasn't due to it being 2D. Disney are cleaner, but I loved the realism during this film. "The Swan Princess" has lovely animation during the first film- that film is criminally underrated on that score. This film never gave me Disney vibes purely because of the dialogue, story-line, character development, etc- minus Rasputin''s powers and being dead and Bartok being a talking bat this film was extremely realistic. How Anya and Dimitri fell for one another didn't feel forced or cheesy like in Disney- it wasn't sickly sweet. Don't get me wrong I still admire Disney and loved their films growing up and I agree their animations are pretty much always clean if I forget some terrible prequels they have released- only dislike I mainly have for them is how money driven they have become- however that's the case with most company's nowadays. I strongly dislike that this film is on Disney+ after they tried to sabotage its initial release.. I understand feeling threatened by it, but how many hit films had they had by 1997? MANY. -laughs- They have all the money in the world yet still are so driven by making more when they're in no danger of becoming bankrupt anytime soon. Thank you for you reply. I love having discussions on here if you can't already tell. xD No arguing, no insults, just a good discussion :)
So funny you say that bc Anastasia and The Swan Princess are two of my favorite movies from when I was a kid. No one ever knows what I’m talking about when I talk about those two movies though. I guess this is why. Cant forget about Atlantis ( I know that’s Disney too)
Now that I realize it, it's because of these types of movies that I liked fox more than Disney as a kid. Disney was entertaining and their movies are okay, but the Fox movies had a depth of plot that always impressed me. Prince of Egypt, Moses, Anastasia, Sinbad, Spirit and the beautiful and underrated Swan Princess are movies that marked me and every time I watch them I find something new, something that with disney movies, because of how famous and well known they are, doesn't happen to me anymore. P.S: my first love was Dimitri and Derek xD From Disney nobody lol
@@stephanielim5544 I’ve read that all brunettes are technically redheads, they just have really dark undertones. But it all comes from the same genetic mutation. (Could be wrong.)
2:06 I absolutely love how perfectly their bodies fit together. Weird thing to notice, but I can't get over how his head just looks right buried in her hair. It's like it's found its home.
That whole scene, from the way Dmitri strokes her hair and how Anya buried her head into his chest as he holds her closer, resting his head on top of hers and his hand still in her hair. Anya's crying, but she also looks so content to be held by Dmitri.
I can’t explain why, but I’ve always felt that voice acting in this movie is really special. Like, the way the movements manage to fit perfectly with the tone of the voice? As I said I can’t explain why but I could spend the whole movie just focusing and appreciating the voice acting.
Yes the true story is that she wasn't the last romanov because she died with all her family and sisters. Too bad animations are made up stories like pocahontas who don't even match at all with her real event that she was abducted.
The fact they use different facial features for characters, making them look like adults and not teenagers. Unlike Disney, Disney likes to make the facial features "perfect" they don't use any different nose shapes except a celestial/button nose. This is hands down the most realistic animated movie I've seen.
I never noticed Vlad's face when Dimitri almost kissed Anya and then walked away after they danced. He looks down right offended 😂 "How dare you not kiss!"
@@bushi2831 my bf doesn’t look like him lol but there are some similar traits lol . Dimitri’s looks is so 90s, especially that hairstyle. I hardly see that now a days
Still annoys me that Anya didn’t have like a total moment with Dmitri being the servant…….like she never realized it was him I TOTALLY WOULD’VE LOVED A FLASHBACK SCENE 😭😭😭
Man! I didn't see this film but I think these two have more chemistry that many Disney couples. And the moment before the kiss was just so real and mature, I LOVE it!
Don Bluth is one hell of an artist/animator. The way he and his team make characters move, and especially their facial expressions... It's so... REAL. So human! Sometimes they seem more like real people and less like cartoon characters.
The dance scene is for me, like they were dying for each other. Anastasia is the best female role model you could want it and of the best movies ever made about a princess, and ladies! Nothing less than a Dimitri!!!
I love how she tries to lead in dancing at first. 😅 That's totally sometihing I would do. Sometimes in dating especially, women do all the initiating because they assume the men don't want to or they don't want to expect too much, but they like when men make a point to initiate something, it shows their love and respect for you. I guess I kinda felt that symbolism when they danced.
Lol it was hilarious when she slapped him after finding out he was a scammer, and I loved how he redeemed himself by coming back to rescue her. Iconic.
This movie is a masterpiece. The animation is so realistic, and the dialogue is as well as well as being smart. And the relationship between the two main characters develops naturally. I love this movie!
you forgot all the times she accidentally slapped him in all seriousness though, i love this movie. their romance is like one of my favorites. it makes me so happy
@@alyssa5160 yeah lol she hit him with a frying pan their first meeting, put some respect on Rapunzel’s name….I personally like both Anya X Dimitri and Flynn X Rapunzel for different reasons lol. Or nah, I think i love both of them because the “Lost Princess X Criminal” trope🫶
This movie is so precious I watched it a hundred times as a kid and it's so heartbreaking knowing the real Anastasia didn't get to live her life. Truly a beautiful movie
