Something the movie makes jokes about but the ads didn’t advertise good enough is that this movie is an adaptation of the Shakespeare play much to do about nothing. Which is why at the beginning there’s a Shakespeare quote and sometimes you see other quotes (like the one on the sand). You got the sister saying “i feel like we are on a play” and the quote people were like “oh wow thats so good i just came up with it” on the vows at the wedding is a Shakespeare quote too lmao. At the end when they are at the field a HUGE screen says the name of the Shakespeare play this is from too (Much to do about nothing)
My favorite recurring joke in this movie is when a character directly quotes Shakespeare, another character will say something about how good that line is and where is it from, then the person who says the line says “I just made it up”
@@chazzerous is wild how the movie constantly pokes at it, directly has the title of the Shakespeare play on the screen AND has Shakespeare’s name and an actual direct quote on the wall within the first 5 mins, and most people still don’t know is an adaptation and miss like half the jokes😭😭 the pr team needed to push that more rather than the weird pr cheating scandal they tried to do with the actors tbh
@@valentinafangirling maybe this is a generational thing? I went to high school in the 90’s and a huge part of my English curriculum was reading Shakespeare and attending Shakespeare plays and watching film adaptations. I’m not sure it’s so weighted in that direction in 2024
@@chazzerous i mean i graduated in 2017 and Shakespeare is still part of the curriculum lmao. At the very least these guys are pretty much my same age or super nearby, so they def did too. But when it also comes to the pr of this movie, Shakespeare is still very much in school curriculums
I enjoyed this one but it’s much more com than rom to me. Highly recommend checking out Set It Up, even if it’s just in your own time. It’s also a Glen Powell rom com but it’s a more balanced blend of romance and comedy and the superior movie, imo. Also @36:11 there are sharks in Sydney Harbor. Attacks are pretty rare but a lady did just lose her leg to a bull shark a few months ago while swimming in the harbor.
So, when she was saying they 'never fought,' it wasn't in the way that y'all interpreted. As someone who was in a 3yr relationship where I lived with my partner, we were able to have 'healthy disagreements.' Which is what she meant. When you're in a relationship where you never have disagreements, it's usually because you and your partner don't care enough about the relationship (ie. lack of passion) to speak up, or you and your partner are too afraid to speak up (ie. fear of confrontation or conflict). And ultimately, you can end up realizing that one or both of you doesn't have any stances on important issues, either.
You guys should definitely watch Set It Up! Another romcom with Glen Powell as the main guy and it's considered to be one of the best romcoms in recent years, y'all would love it. (Plus Pete Davidson's in it too)
Darren Barnet who plays Jonathan is also in a really good show called Never Have I Ever. It's a comedy and I highly HIGHLY recommend. You guys would love it
PETITION! for you guys to react to scream queens! Such a good show that’s so funny and has Glen Powell in it who’s probably my favorite character of the whole show 😂❤️
I will never stop asking you to watch Never Have I Ever! (Darren Barnet is a sweetheart) It’s great and you guys would enjoy it a lot especially if you liked TSITP! IMO it’s way better that TSITP as well! Cant wait to watch this reaction💜
About zuff’s questions about bathroom keys in businesses, yes, I live in LA and a lot businesses you either need to ask for a key or there’s a key pad code lock in the door that you need to ask the employee for the code. Or they say you need to make a purchase first. My best guess is it’s to keep out unhoused people who might try to sleep in there or make a mess. I’ve worked at a McDonald’s where the bathrooms weren’t locked and people (housed and unhoused) would come in and leave a sh*tty p*ssy mess that other customers would track around the restaurant 🤢 There’s only one chipotle I know in my town that the restrooms are right at the entrance and the doors don’t have locks or a code so you can just sneak past, use it, and leave without the employees seeing you 😂 but it’s absolutely very inconvenient when you just need to use the restroom super quick when you’re not close to home and you can’t 😩
Guys: This is the BEST reaction video for this movie I have seen!!! Thanks! I have seen “Anyone but You” several times-loving it more and more, and here are some cool things to notice in this romcom for this new era and so popular with Gen Z (and a super hit making over $217 million worldwide with just a $25 million budget): 1. The director Will Gluck put in Easter eggs for “Easy A”: Ojai on Ben’s T-shirt that he puts on after Bea leaves his home, and many shots of oranges. Gluck previously directed “Easy A”, which was set in Ojai, California. And included numerous scenes with oranges. “Easy A” also features a Natasha Bedingfield song, “Pocket Full of Sunshine”, with “Unwritten” being the bop for “Anyone but You”. The director says that the use of “Unwritten” was not an intentional Easter egg though. 2. Halle tells Bea at the beach that their mom-played by Rachel Griffiths-thinks of herself as Australian since arriving there. The actress is actually Australian (from Melbourne) in real life. 3. There is an NPR Easter egg: the “Hidden Brain” psychology podcast playing on the airliner as Bea looks for an open lavatory. 4. The evocative music score for the film was co-composed by Este Haim of the music group HAIM. Este’s sister Alana stars in the movie “Licorice Pizza”, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson (famous for films like “There Will Be Blood”). 5. When Dermot Mulroney says, “As they say in the home country, ‘abbondanza [abundance in Italian]’”, this is one of many references to the Shakespeare play “Much Ado about Nothing” on which the plot of this romcom is based. Mulroney plays Leo Messina in this movie, whose counterpart in the play is Leonato, the governor of Sicily. 6. Glen Powell’s parents appear in the airliner cookie scene. His father is sleeping in the seat next to Ben. His mother is lying across the aisle. She raises her eye mask and gives a side eye glance at Bea, who is doing sex-like gymnastics above a sleeping Ben. She then puts her eye mask back on, to mind her own business. Glen’s parents regularly have cameos in his movies. 7. At the climactic and romantic Sydney Opera House scene, there is a nice callback: Bea tells Ben, “Are you going to kiss me now?” At the beginning meet cute cafe scene, Bea says, “Are you going to ask me out now?” 8. The scene where GaTa trains the border collie to attack the toy fox can be considered a “Chekhov’s Dog” device: it foreshadows Klonopin (named for a panic attack drug!) knocking over the wedding cake.
About the sharks: there was a rather funny Glen Powell interview with Jimmy Fallon during the press tour where he talked about realizing just after filming their scenes in the water that there is actually a shark population in that harbor. The production did take some safety measures, but I wouldn't recommend it for your average Joe. Also, just seconding the comments about what a shame it is so few people realize this was based on the Shakespeare play "Much Ado About Nothing"- I've described this film to other people as "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" meets "10 Things I Hate About You" largely based on that. But I'm glad you all enjoyed it because it is such a dang enjoyable film!
Sydney harbour is 100% infested by bull sharks and reef sharks lmfao. There’s more sharks there than other places because they wait for people to throw food off the boats.
Zuff was right. Regimen. Not regiment. Not regime. "a prescribed course of medical treatment, way of life, or diet for the promotion or restoration of health." "a regimen of one or two injections per day"
this movie will always have a special place in my heart because i was having a tough week and went on a little date with myself to the cinema to watch it laughed, cried and loved myself a bit more that day glad to see you all react to it
I was sooo excited to see your reaction to this film! I was nervous going into this movie because I really wanted to like it and I was scared that it would disappoint me, but it didn't! It was everything I love in a romcom and had what I feel like a lot of romcoms are missing these days (?) 10 Things I hate about you is one of my favorite movies, and this gave me the same vibes. Maybe my type of movies are Shakespeare retellings? lol. Once again, thank you so much for the video
If anyone doesn't know Sydney just know the wedding grassed area is to the right of Bondi beach where she is after walking from the wedding & is probably like a 15min walk even though she was walking from the opposite way getting into the taxi😂 & then bondi beach to the opera house might be like 20min drive depending on traffic 😂 Also that run from the deck to the opera house is like a 2min run bc I got off a boat there after the movie came out & wanted to recreate it but did it & was such a walk😂
More than a third of Australia is desert, and majority of people live on the coast or near it. I live in rural Aus amongst a lot of bushland. Its beautiful, and always nice to see it in a big movie :) Thanks for the great reactions guys!
Sydney’s acting is becoming very overrated imo. Her face card is absolutely giving but I genuinely feel like she’s doing the bare minimum. Like her most recent performances have been awful…. she was really good in euphoria and everything sucks.
Honestly yeah, I blame her poor acting in this movie on the terrible writing and production. The movie was unsalvageable. Even viola Davis couldn’t save this movie. Just my opinion though. It’s like Twilight. All terrific actors who acted terribly due to poor production and scripts.
Loved the rxn and especially the moments of your personality shining through: Robs cute excitement over the soundtrack, Zuff’s random names for the characters and Bryce’s side convo of his re-discovered love of grilled cheese 😂🖤
"Look at that view, there's a bridge there? You can see the Opera House?" Yes Zuff, you won't believe this... it's the little known Sydney Harbour Bridge 😉 You guys were next level with the lines this time. "Most of Australia is just land, I think", "take me away Glen Powell oh my goodness!" had me in stitches. The DJ thumbs up wasn't a Natasha cameo, it was just that Bea had requested it to mess with Ben. P.S. It was basically a raunchier 10 Things I Hate About You as far as modern Shakespeare rom-com adaptations. And we are wankers about our beaches and coffee, but I'm pretty sure this had some good Tourism Australia funding.. this makes Australia look like Paris in Emily in Paris 😂
By the way, for further reference. If you're going to fall overboard, the safest body of water to have it happen is the Atlantic ocean, preferably near the Carribean. That's the body of water that thousands of Cubans have crossed on rafts, mattresses, even pieces of plastic. I feel I've watched you all enough to know you'd be safe making it from Cuba to Florida. If I had to describe your spirit animal, I'd say rabid squirrels.
"Bate the hook well this fish will bite!" and the couple getting married plotting to get the two people who hate each other together is the moment I realized this is based off of Shakespeare's "Much ado about nothing". Also I just realized their names are the same lol, Beatrice and Benedik and in here they are Beatrice and Ben.
That’s Bondi beach right there when Sydney walks away at the end! It’s probably nowhere close to where the wedding would have been 😂 but an amazing beach.
Guys, for more reference. This movie was based on the Shakespeare play, Much Ado About Nothing. You can look it up. I'm mentioning this little known fact because I've heard that one of you has a certain interest in theater. Don't deny it, I have video of the plays. Yes, those plays.
I dont get why when people keep saying how did he not wake up in the airplane like bro he has a headphones on with music and also in the beginning when bea sneak out he didn't have headphones on so he woke up
Los Angeles to Sydney is a nonstop flight and is around 15 hours or so. You actually can lose a whole day... for example if you leave on a Friday, when you arrive in Sydney, it will be Sunday already. FYI, longest nonstop flight in the world is Newark to Singapore which I believe is around 18 hours.
if you're on the east coast of Australia aka Sydney, Brisbane & Melbourne you can fly straight to LA, San Fran or Dallas. It's 14-16hrs straight. If you're flying to east coast of US you'll have to fly to another city first.
y'all should react to Scream Queens with Glenn Powell and plenty of other well known actors. It's unhinged and very funny (only 2 short seasons). Also a good drama series I think y'all would like/appreciate is Gossip Girl(6 seasons). I love your reactions and look forward to more!
I believe one of the first tv shows Sydney Sweeney was in was on Netflix and it was called "Everything Sucks!" It was a high school dramedy that took place in the 90s. It only got one season, but I liked it.
