NOTE: The AT-5555Nii and the AT-5555N are DIFFERENT radios internally. The Nii is a a whole generation ahead of the AT-5555N and the AT-6666. They are all good radios, but the "Nii" is a better radio in almost every single way to the older models. (New features and outstanding performance). 73
Is there a way to adjust the power output, I like to be abel to get down to legal amount of power. 4w FM/AM and 15w SSB. If power adjust knop is all down i still get 10w at fm. at am i get around 2.5w and ssb 5w so its only the FM is a bit high, can it be adjusted without loosing the high power output ? I have the older version without the service menu. but its the same version as in this video.
@@CrazyBossDKI've been looking into this radio myself, there is a (service menu) you can enter to change power. I'm sure thete is info somewhere out there about it.

I really like my quad 6. My only complaint about them, is that they run hot. I don’t like the finals in them at all. The way they have it set up will eat them alive. Change out the finals, set the bias and clea it up a bit, and you have a cool running 100 watt radio you can talk in all day!
These are amazing radios talk about getting across the pond well these are what you need for a base on power supply these are both very nice radios I like the quad 5 N the best but that is just me. These are side band royalty. Love them both I’ve made over two hundred trips across the pond on mine love it. Just on a five eighths maco ground plane. 28 foot to bottom elements from the ground. KC9LRA. Bob sand man. 94 these are actually ten meter radios that has been converted to cb eleven meters or twenty seven mhz. Thank you John
Yours is the second review on the quad five I have seen, and now I’m inclined to go get one. I have had a quad six for about two years now, and have been happy with it with one exception. I do wish the radio had some kind of a waterfall display so that I can see where the traffic is on 10 m.obviously on 11 m there’s no need for it. Nice job on the review!
I use a 5555n in my truck as a bile 10m ham rig on a quad band mobile antenna (6,10, 70cm & 2m) with an opek switch to swap between radios. The 5555n is a great inexpensive rig. Have done dx as far as NZ, JP, S.A., & IT. The newest Quad 5 WOULD be nice for the noise filter. Mobile DX'ing can get hard on the ears after a while. Got spoiled with the DNR in my Yaesu's. I would recommend the 5555n to any new technician ham just getting started who wants a taste of what HF is all about.
I've been watching some of your older videos and noticed with your range testing that your meter would pick you out at less than S-1 at about 12 miles. I thought that was absolutely astonishing that you had basically a zero noise floor and that you could be picked out at that low of a signal. So I started looking at my noise situation on my new Anytone AT-6666 and even at night when there was no traffic there was a noise floor of S-5 on every channel and a noise floor of S-7 on channel 36-40 LSB. This was NOT the radio, it was something in my house causing that noise, which basically caused me to miss all of the low signals because they were covered up by the noise. There is no way I would be able to pick out a S-1 because the noise was S-5. So I started unplugging everything in my house, one by one, trying to find the source(s) of noise. What did I find??? The ROUTER when connected to the ethernet cable was causing most of the noise, about S-3 worth. When I disconnected the ethernet cable from the router the noise went down to a S-2. When I unplugged my security cameras the noise went down to S-1. When I unplugged my desktop audio amplifier power supply the noise went to showing NOTHING on the meter. Since I had basically NO NOISE I went through the channels and found a bunch of guys talking on channel 14 that were 25 miles away from me. They were coming in at an S-4 and I could hear them crystal clear because there was no noise, and they could hear me just fine. So eliminating that noise allowed me to hear so many more people because they weren't being covered up by the noise. I would bet that you too could eliminate ALL that noise by unplugging routers, cameras, and switch mode power supply (wall warts) that come with damn near everything these days. Thanks for your videos, I enjoy watching your testing and antenna ideas. They have helped me out so much. ;)
Thanks for the comment, I'm glad you found the source of your noise. the noise I have is only during the day, at night my radio is very quiet. if I use an old radio like my Washington, it's quiet all the time. the newer radios just don't have the filtering like the older radios had. Thanks for watching, 73's from 151 SC.
Most people have noise problems. Things like you mentioned, plus LED lights, microprocessor appliances like washing machines, solar panel controllers... it's a RFI jungle out there! The traditional way to troubleshoot it was to have a battery powered radio on and turn off the main house circuit breaker. If the noise level is reduced then turn all of the branch circuit breakers off and turn the main entrance back on. Check the noise level. If it's still low turn the branch circuit breakers on one at a time. Allow 5 minutes for anything on the breaker to reboot and start making noise. Once you find the noisemaker then take a walkie talkie and go snooping until you find the offender. A zero noise level would be fantastic but impossible to achieve. Christmas lights are notorious noisemakers, along with fish tank heaters, electric blankets, heating pads, Lacrosse weather stations, and some things that you would never imagine.
Time to get a case of ferrite cores noise chokes start placing on every input and output line of the culprits should not effect the router or the cat 5 if you still use hardline internet one at router and one just before getting into device those chokes are easy nuff to use just snap shut some you may run loops in and out to create double choke with one ferrite core
I have the same here, if RF is RFG is full open, i have S4-5 day and night. If I turn RFG to 11 o'clock i have S0, but the i get also a cracking noise. I have some noise I pick up quite clearly on all frequences from 25-30mhz, it seems to be from S5 to S8, and for every 30hz. Very clear at 27.400 then 27.430 etc. All the band.
The big-box home stores sell stick-on rubber feet. I put them on all of my mobile radios and the base stations that have lost their feet. It's good to see that some manufacturers have an interest in the radio hobby market. Noise reduction has always been a problem for the radio manufacturers. If users learn to embrace FM and it's advantages the natural noises at 27 MHz won't be as much as a deterrent to using the service.
@@14KiloWhisky If you're talking about skip interference, they developed subaudible tone squelches for that problem. Mobile AM/SSB CB radio users, the commercial type, have always had to fiddle with the squelch control, but FM doesn't have this problem.
Hi John the new crt ss7900 v turbo looks identical to the quad5 but has noise reduction with levels 1-5 which makes the receive sound brilliant! 73s 176 Scotland
thank you for this comparison. i did want the quad 6, but now want the quad 5 for its mannish size. it will replace what i have now, which is a formac 700 am/fm and a cobra 148 gtlf. btw- i am setting up something you might like: i will be able to bounce my audio back to me using my sport sync radio with delay. i will be using it with a cheap fm transmitter and a 49mhz walkie with vox and bouncing it to my scanner. i think it will do up to 60 sec delay. take care and 73's to you and yours
I'm gonna be soon upgrading from my General Lee in our semi, I love the price of these Anytones, but I wish they were more easy to use rather then all the buttons & digital stuff - I'd get lost & erritated trying one of these Anytones !! I don't like the proce of the Stryker 955 - but I like that I'm seeing its a lot simpler to use - so yah I've got to go with what I can learn & use without getting mad & taking a hammer to it !! But, I at least had to watch videos of these to really determine & make a decision !! But I sure do wish I could bring myself to learning these - but it's just not me !!
Did you convert your radios to 11meters yourself? If so did you make a video? I heard that AT tells you how to switch their radios in the menu. Is that true?
Hey Mower Junkie , İ love your home made custom base antenna's! İs this the same radios as the CRT SS 7900V Turbo with the CRT SS 9900V4 european? Those Anytones look like the CRT's! Keep up the good work!
I also have the 5555N like yours (old version), no service menu. And 10 menu entries - there is another menu you can get if you hold menu+mode while powering on, and release when the display show everything. It show CH-01 to 15, and you enter the menu items by pushing the channel selector. Not all 15 channel entries are in use.
I wish the receivers would be improved. Same with the Lincoln II+. As you noted, they just have too high of a noise level compared to the older 40 ch radios like the Uniden/Cobra gear. Wish you had an inside view of the boards.
It is because they are more sensitive than older models. When i compare To my uniden Washington i have better réception with my anytone. They sound like a ham radio.
Man I got hit very hard some one broke in to my car got my galaxy 86v cb and a Texas Star 600 and a Stryker a10 antenna. Has made me so sick down have the money to get back in to cb radio I sure am going to miss it I know that much for sure .
@@MowerJunkie iv looked around at used ones and most are asking almost as much as a new one cost .. I just had that texas start re done had new transistors put in it and the radio wasn't even 6 months old the Stryker antenna was new hadn't had it but maybe 3 weeks . I wish they wud have taken car and just left my radio stuff lol . But they will get wats coming to them what comes around goes around bad things happen to people who do bad
I just ordered the Anytone 6666 I hope it works well for the 10 meter band We are in Solar 25 10 meter band is peaking up so I hope to make a lot of contacts.
THE ANYTONE AND STRYKER ARE MADE IN THE SAME FACTORY. IF YOU SEE THE PC BOARDS IN BOTH THEY ARE THE SAME. I HOPE THAT YOU CAN COMPARE THE 955HPC ONE DAY SOON.
hi there. i know this is a long shot but all my swr meter have kicked the bucket and i live in an area that doesn't have any cb shops or trucks shops.i was wondering if you have any spare swr meters that still work good. i really want to get dxing again.
Thank you for a no nonsense thorough demo for us......I have tried to make friends with Flat earth guy "Black Swan"and he only seems to want to broadcast...Wow you got alota comments on this !
On my 6666, the receive audio is a bit weak when I am on SSB, its great on AM and FM but a lot softer on SSB, have to turn up the volume a lot, and in my vehicle its a bit of an issue to hear weaker stations, my hearing aint that of a 20 year old nomore 😁
Hi there sir, been watching your videos. May I ask, what's your honest opinion on this quad 5, is it a good radio worth buying? Reason I ask is because someone is selling a never been used, brandnew in the box at a very reasonable price and I'm thinking on buying it. Thank you so much sir, 6935, Philippines.
check out this video, it's of the Radioddity QT60 (same as 5555n II) in the video I show how to expand the frequency ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KYeE33hOqqs.html
Would like to know if anyone is having problems with the Anytone 6666 getting too hot (heat sink area)? I've seen a couple videos of people complaining about that. I was wanting to buy one for my mobile.
Man I cant decide. I want a bigger frame I guess. So I will go for the quad 5!! The Anytone AT-5555N 2. But I need to cut a wire and move this thingy 😂 "jumper"? over. To get into CB / 11 meter modus or all modus. Which I never did. It saves me €80 to buy the 5555 and have to do the mod. Or buy it in my country for €80 till €100 more with the modification done. I am not cheap. But it looks so simple to mod it to 11 meter myself and save money. I really want this one. Thanks for showing the radio's and menu's.
@@MowerJunkie love your videos I’m not into cb right now I have spent the last 25 years at the cb radio but have gotten out of it the past couple years I just ordered 2 of those Anytone quad 6 radios I’m in southern Nl canada a town called st lawrenc hope to make connection with u some day. Take care 73s
I meant to put it in the video, But I forgot all about the conversion, when I recorded the video. There are a lot of videos showing how to do it though.
I have both these and the Lincoln 2+. In fact, I have 2x 5555N2. The 5555 is just great for big ham-fisted fingers and is my favorite. But the 6666 is just as stunning to hear and transmit as the 5555n2. and really pretty identical in terms of basic functionality. Like you, I do like them both equally except for the size. The 6666 is so much easier to fit in the newer cars somewhere. I do like the Lincoln with all its functionality and the green screen is beautiful, but sound shit. I've also got one of the AM/FM 10-12meter radios and that is a little ripper. Can't remember the model at the moment, but it's another AnyTone and is the size of your hand.
Sounds like you have a great collection! I agree about the size of the radios, I think my 6666 is going to end up in my car, it's the perfect size to fit in my dash.
Do all the buttons backlight on the 5555n? And, will it allow you to manually set the SWR with a Calibration feature? Or, does just have automatic SWR calibration?
great video John! do you suggest any aftermarket power mics to use on the quad 6? i watched your mic test video and i am just assuming those mic's you tested are not easy to come by anymore. maybe a road devil?
John, can you do anything Aftermarket to help fix the Noisey radio, because I just bought the 5555 plus because it’s kind of old school mix with new school
