This is the most popular beach with 12 little resorts along this beach. Ao Kao Beach is about 5 km long, so you will find a lot of quiet spots here to enjoy this beautiful beach.
This beach is considered one of the most romantic areas on the island. The beauty of this beach is -like everywhere in the world- changes from high and low-tide.
Some people prefer the high-tide, so you just walk a few steps until the water is deep enough to swim. Some prefer the low-tide, so you have more of the sandy beach.
From here, you can enjoy nice sunsets and a view of Koh Rayang Nok and Koh Rayang Nai. Coconut trees and sea pines line the back of the beach making for some very scenic pictures.
Ao Kao Beach has the small pier for the Leelawadee Speedboat. It’s right in front of the Makathanee Resort giving easy access for visitors and day trips to other islands and snorkeling.
The beach has very nice sand. The water is perfect and a great place to stay on the island for beach lovers. The island is always very quiet so you will never have crowds on this long stretch of beautiful white sand.

This is the most popular beach on the island. If you want to compare it to Koh Kut here is a video of the most popular beach there. Klong Chao Beach - Best Beach on Koh Kut - Thailand 2023 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WoKyuNXHA3s.html

Yes this was a very nice beach. It was our first time to this island and a big difference from Koh Chang. Had a great time here.

Very good. You will have a nice time here. I prefer this island now over Koh Chang. Feels like what Thailand used to be like 20 years ago.

Thanks, This is another spot on my radar once I arrive. I good place to reset after getting away from the noise in US. Days are counting down.

It would be pretty nice to do all 3 of the major islands. There are ferries that go between Koh Kut, Koh Mak and Koh Chang. This is by far the quietest of the 3. Koh Kut isn’t much busier and has a bit more to do. I will post a few more videos from here after I get them all edited to show a bit more of the area.

Ya they roll the roads up at 8pm. It was ok for me since I’m up super early and don’t go out and drink. I prefer Koh Kut and Koh Chang to this island but it was still really nice to visit.

Went to Ko Mak this past February. Walked along this beach from The Big Easy resort down to the pier and back. The beach was filthy and neglected and I got ravaged by sand fleas. Some of the scars are still visible months later. I met two ladies who also had the same experience at the same part of the beach. It looked like it was well taken care of past the pier. Ko Mak was great and I am already booked to go back. I will just spend most of the time at Ao Soun Yai, a much cleaner beach.

@@TheGregsponge the sand fleas lay their eggs in the sand and like undisturbed sand for this purpose. The beaches on Koh Mak, Koh Mook And Koh Chang all seem to have sand fleas and I’ve been bitten on all 3 islands. One of the things that drives me crazy is the trash on the beaches. Thanks for watching.

I’ve been there in 2007 and 2017. The first time in the rainy season, very wet then. But we liked it very much. There where almost no tourists by then.

Rainy season can be a bit of a downer. I’ve been on Koh Chang where it flooded and mud slides washed the roads out. Koh Mak doesn’t seem to get as much rain but it still looks like it can rain for days on end. I did enjoy being able to get out and away from the crowds. We were in Phuket over Christmas and it felt like Bangkok with all of the people.

I have been to Kho Mak 3 times (10 years ago) and really loved the place. The reason i never went back was because the sandflies ruined all the fun. How is it these days? Do you know if there are still sandflies?.

There are still sandflies. They lay their eggs in sand that is not racked and that is usually the case on beaches like this. I got bit a few times and I really hate it because I’m someone that really gets affected by the bites. In this trip though it wasn’t as bad as other beaches I’ve been to though.

@@endlessjourneytravels Thanks for your response. Unfortunately this means i will not go back because it realy ruined a big part of our trip. And even weeks later its still very itchy.

@@DirksDreamDestinations that is how it’s for me when I get bit also. I read online that deet, coconut milk and citronella help but I’ve never had any luck. I haven’t tried coconut milk but I think I must taste very good or something.
