It's all moot, because cobalt-free batteries are possible. There are several promising ones right now, a proper response would be to increase R&D for battery tech. Additionally, Sodium batteries are on the horizon, and US Lithium mining as a recycled wasteproduct of geothermal energy plants is another possibility. We do need to increase our production of rare earths, but of course, we can do it responsibility. That said, the idea that Chinese companies might buy our cobalt exports as "still going to China" is a strawman. The issue is cobalt production, not cobalt use. If the US produced 90% of the world's cobalt, and companies around the world bought it from us, refined it, and made products out of it, that's much different than China producing 90% of the world's cobalt and refining it and making products out of it. One of those scenarios still results in us having strategic control of a critical resource, the other does not.

I agree with Donald Trump on reducing business taxation (that helps wage growth and helps lower customer prices-there are stories that back that up) even though I disagree with him on lowering individual tax rates on the rich and politicians. Plus, excise taxes should only be paid by the rich and politicians rather than be a flat rate applied to all people using gas, air travel, or tobacco. However, I did agree with Donald Trump on removing Affordable Care Act taxes altogether for everyone.

I am always astonished at how many Congress members, mostly GOP, who show up at work unprepared. All most of them need to do is ask their staff to research an issue, summarize it, & prepare pages of real facts. Instead of using facts, they make up stupid & inaccurate statistics, spread conspiracy theories, and try to BS their way through hearings. I imagine most of them hire staff members who are the children of donors or family friends, and who are just as stupid as their bosses.
