I directed a production of Phaedra’s Love last semester! We used balloon play to deconstruct the sexual moments of the play. That play is really interesting, because although Kane described it herself as a comedy, most productions skew too closely to realism and cynicism to bring out the humor. We also used Sophie at the end for the disembowelment, throwing candy into the audience, etc. I read 4:48 Psychosis in high school and it really shaped how I approach theatre! Great episode, I always thought of Kane’s work as requiring you go take a sledgehammer to the tunnel to find the light vs. wandering aimlessly towards the end of the tunnel.
