Complimentary thoughts and a few contradictory thoughts to another great channel. 'Catching up with Uncommon Episode 1'. What if Shaq had joined MJ? @UnCommonCents-865
I think its just Shaq taking a shot at the modern trend of superteaming. Nothing I would knock him over except I personally think he should just be blunt about it instead of being afraid to call out Lebron and Durant directly.
There is NO WAY Shaq and MJ could have been on the same team for very long. MJ is the alpha, period. Shaq couldn't even stand the praise Penny or Kobe got...U think he woulda been OK riding MJs cotails???? No way, NO HOW!!! Shaq lying thru his teeth...and he knows it
@@adamm8136 they played together in the All Star games for Eastern conference and did quite well each time. I know it just a All star game, but I think they woulda been fine. They would figure it out.
@comparehealthlifedental+ but here one problem that i see is a fault in your argument it all star game were talking about being on the same team for many years and i agree with @adamm shaq couldn't handle the praise that penny and kobe were getting heck I wouldn't be surprised if he couldn't the praise of Dwade or heck in his last season in the league with Cleveland with lebron so if he couldn't handle the praise of those 4 what make u think he be okay fully with riding Jordan coatails
@georgebrice8329 ty. 100%..Once Shaq got older it was a bit different, but I agree with ur overall premise. This man over here talking about an all-star game...which I couldn't even respond cause the basis of his argument is absurd. It's not even comparable in the slightest. In Shaqs prime he HAD to be the guy, Alpha, and the top paid player. He also wanted the ball and expected it immediately when his hand went up. MJ ant having that, no, no, no..not now, not ever. To even think these 2 could coexist in they primes on the same team is beyond ludicrous. It's 2k fantasy land nonsense
Jordan was so smooth, such a flow, jordan is what basketball should be, jordans problem was his gm...and the owner, how do you break up the bulls, how can you not love phil jackson?????
I think he was really just taking shots at LeBron. Like you said that Magic team was legit. They had a superstar in Penny and a great roster around them. In 1996 they went 60 and 22 and Shaq missed like 27 games. They could’ve easily won 70 that year. And then he played with cover band MJ in Kobe. And then D-Wade.
The issue that the magic had was that Penny was so good that they started saying Shaq and Penny magic. Shaq got so jealous that Penny also got a bobble head toy that he blew the team up. When it became the Shaq and Kobe Lakers he couldn't share the limelight so he gave an ultimatum and they chose Kobe. You think he could join a team where he will start in and stay in Jordan's shadow? Not a chance. Jordan would have tolerated Shaq better than Kobe did, but there is no way that Shaq could have been happy on "Jordan's Bulls". Not as attention desperate as LeBron but still needed the lions share of the credit to be part of the team.
I think Shaq would have got his sh*t together with Mike tho. Don't get me wrong, I love Kobe, but he didn't have the effect on players as Jordan did. Shaq would have respected Jordan and his position because Jordan was the #1 option and there was going to be no if and or buts about it.
If MJ had even an average center it would have taken some of the load off of him. The Bull's centers weren't even getting an average of 10 points per game...
I remember when the Bulls got Bison Dele (RIP) and he was a legit 12 points per game scorer. All of a sudden they became really hard to stop because now teams had to account for a guy who could consistently get buckets inside. Having Shaq would’ve been unfair. Hell, Rik Smits at center would’ve still made them damn near unbeatable.
I think that just amplifies what MJ did. He had no big man in the middle (in an era of big men) and yet was able to dominate so many teams who did have big men.
yeah if Jordan cared about all that he could have come in to play as soon as Phil got hired by LA and played in another threepeat team. NBA was better when players had bond with fans and wouldn't want to betray the entire state. When he joined Washington when he was 38-39 season joining a 17 win team that's fine, if he joined LA it would have been terrible.
Great vid and good points. Good collab. THE AUDIO THO! He's so loud and you are so quiet, I have to constantly toggle the audio and then uncommon jumpscares me whenever he comes in lol.
I'm taking this as an opportunity to tell the public how disgusted I was when Shaq said that he used to piss and sh** in a bucket, allow it to fester, then dump it on unsuspecting rookies. I've been struggling to look past Shaq saying this, for the past 2yrs (when I saw it)
@@stevensmith7191 Yessir. I couldn't believe how proudly he talked about this dehumanizing act...basically an assault💥 He also talked about choking a former teammate unconscious when commenting about draymond knocking out Jordan Poole💥
Back in 1997, during the McDonald's Championship in Paris, a French basketball magazine who was following the Bulls during training sessions (and everywhere else they were allowed to) reported that Jordan was really unhappy about the 3 centers they had at the time (Longley, Wennington and Joe Kleine), and when few people were around, he said stuff like : 'Look at those 3 guys! 21 feet of pure shit!' 18 fouls to use against the opponent, the magazine added. Jordan wasn't trying to lose the tournament, of course, that would have been a first for an NBA team, but Pippen and Rodman were not there for some reason, and I guess he felt more pressure on him to carry the team (more than usual).
Pls any real basketball fan, give me ur take on this..... I argue this with ppl ALL THE TIME. These absolute MORONS who claim those Lakers teams that won 2x with Kobe and Gasol were mid. Smh. Fisher, Kobe, Artest, Gasol, Bynum. Odem off the bench, Walton, Vujacic, Arzia, Shannon Brown, Matt Barnes I understand some may see those names and think...wtf. Those last 5 were key rotation players who were all solid at they roles. Bynum was a top 5 C in the entire league at that time when healthy. A guaranteed 15-20pts with 10rebs and 2 blocks a night. Gasol in the HOF and made all-teams & all-stars without Kobe. Artest was a former DPOTY and in the running for it 9x, top 6 in voting 2010. Odem was the 6th man of the year with Lakers 1x and was top 5 in voting all 3 years. Fisher was a vet who didnt turn the ball over and hit clutch shots. You got 2 legit 7 footers, between Kobe, Artest, and Odem, possibly one of the best, most versitile, defensive front courts in history!! Everyone can catch & shoot, but Bynum. They had arguably the best HC in NBA history. They also had the perfect mix of young guys and vets with chemistry all led by the freaking MAMBA!!! I'd put that team led by Kobe up against the Warriors w/KD!!!!! Not even a Lakers fan, 76ers fan. Philly born and raised
I know what you mean and I have talked about this in the unreleased episodes where I dispute some of Skap's takes (even though he is generally on point).
Now that would've Def been a superteam lol but we kno they all would've blew it up they wanted 2 beat the best not join the best. Also AOH I dnt think the Shaq n kobe lakers were a superteam cuz kobe was jus a prospect and the office was the ones planning the team not the superstars.
@@relicdad88 yes plus after Kobe and Shaq there was a huge dropoff to the next best players on the team, huge ....Rick Fox and D Fish were nice , but lets be real...
If Jordan had Shaq, nobody would have beat them. If the Bulls would have taken Reggie Miller instead of Pippen they would have immediately started winning chips. Reggie averaged 10 pts a game his rookie season and it went up to 16 the following year. Pippen wasn't even that good his first 2 seasons.
Uncommon’s upbeat hearty comedic approach is a great counter to your laid back cynical drawl. Reaction is cool, and if it’s all we get then I’m good with it. But I think some great dialogue could be had given an unfiltered exchange between the two of you. Uncommon Hoops ☝🏾
Shaq didn't ask for Kobe, he was drafted as a rookie. He became Kobe over time. Not a super team, and in the 03-04 season Malone was in his 18th and final season, and Payton was also in his final season.
I don't think shaq's work ethic would be same as in lakers. He would join bulls and look at MJ like a demigod and most likely listen to every thing he said. Which was not the case in lakers and with kobe.
Kobe, career 41% & 31% from 3 in Finals career, most played on Easy Mode next to the Best Superstar ANY Superstar got to play with, lost that Finals vs Detroit. Kobe went Ballhog and took the ball from Shaq trying to prove a point. Kobe took over 110 shots to Shaq's 84 shots.
Don’t forget the drama with Karl and Kobe’s wife. I was legit rooting for Detroit because I hated the lakers and liked Rasheed Wallace game (let me stress the word game; not his antics). He could’ve been a generational talent like Duncan and KG if he just focused on basketball. It ended up being a perfect fit in Detroit. I still can’t believe that he doubled off horry in the 2005 finals on that inbounds pass. Obviously the inbounder is the most dangerous man on the court but it’s multiplied when it’s Robert freaking Horry!! Glad they humiliated the lakers in 04 tho!
@angryoldhoops mentioned that Anthony Edwards had an army… which is absolutely true when you consider that Anthony Edwards is a superstar .. Karl Anthony towns is an allstar….Rudy gobert is 4 time defensive player of the year and naz Reid was 6th man of the year … so this is a lot like the shaq and Kobe situation where to much talent is a bad thing. Much like. The Olympics where Lebronze helped America get two bronze medals ….too much talent on one roster creates a clashing of egos and no cohesion within the team. Jessica
That Lakers team was stacked! Just gives that much more weight to how great that Pistons team was. One of the best ever! They took out LeBron. They took out Kobe and Shaq. So the league changed the rules and forced the Pistons to break up. They were holding teams to 60 points regularly!
basketball in the 70s and 80s is the inverse on basketball now, the exact opposite... and everyone knows who everyone is, one of the things i love about basketball is you cant hide, your weakness are obvious to all, and jordan exposed these fools, liers, he loved it, i love it when playing, whats tough on me is when i suck so much i cant expose the fake lebron players, lebron, id just do all things hes affraid of, come into all your fears Lebron..lol, so fun
Ypu don't think about shaq and kobe as a superteam because in 1996 you did not know how kobe would develop. You could not know he would be slightly lower grade MJ. Many thought Vince would be the one. As he had high jump, explosivness, and was actually more graceful then MJ. Kobe developed 4 years later.
shaq wasnt about winning, like Lebron, shaq didnt want to be laughed at...like u cant call it shaq attack, etc...shaq being on tnt, he like lebron can control his own narrative
I think we need a better definition of superteam. To me it is a team of super star free agents. Like trying to buy a championship. Teams that were predominantly drafted I don’t consider super teams. Hitting on some mid level free agents doesn’t feel like a super team. Signing 3 superstars or more in their prime is a superteam.
jordan destroyed the big men teams, amazing centers, i think hack a shaq would of hurt the bulls in the playoffs, and shaqs play and mentality, would of cost the team, jordan could of played with shaq, as jordan could play with anyone
Karl Malone was too old and broken down to last a Finals run and Gary Payton was too dumb to run the triangle offense. But Shaq and Kobe definitely reached a boiling point that same year. Mostly due to Shaq’s ego and insecurities.
at the end for shaq, alll massive super teams for shaq, and he wanted rings finally, for bragging rights the rest of his life, not working with his team, with his teammates, building, fighting for rings, winning, team.....all not shaq, hes a tool, and like lebron, shaq knows hes a jack, a tool, a fool...they know
Jordan and Shaq are incompatible. The league already gamed the system when Orlando got back-to-back number 1s in very good drafts, even though their chances in 1993 were very low (they were 41-41 in Shaq's rookie season and made the lottery by losing the tiebreaker to the Pacers). They took the player they wanted (Penny) and three number ones from Golden State in the C-Webb draft-day trade. They were set up for success, but Shaq just didn't hold up his end of the deal and even the local fans soured on him. But maybe Shaq would not bristle as much since MJ was clearly the guy and if Phil Jackson coached the team maybe they would have found a way to co-exist. The big problem would be the dollars, I don't know which franchise would shell out the combined $50+ million for their salaries. No way the giant egos of these two guys would allow them to take pay cuts.
SHAQ being another great that I had a whole lot of respect for.... hearing the way they think is making me rethink how i see them, Reggie Miller is another one of those mush-belly great that is being affected by today's soft a$$ league. Shaq am so sorry you went to sleep; all male, and waked up with female parts, but you could not of pulled that off because back then the team Owners ran the league, so the decision was out of your hands.
haven't finished watching the vid yet you might get to it later but if Shaq had stayed in Orlando played with Penny, they made the fucking finals. he bitches out for the money to the Lakers, plays with arguably the 2nd greatest player of all-time and has beef with him because he relied on his size and work ethic was terrible. That is why Kobe had a problem with him. I can't take anything that comes out of Shaqs mouth serious.
a lot of us care, but we have no say in it....cheaters suck, basketball, cheating on family and wives sucks, and i dont follow as best i can, as best i can understand
shaq couldnt have played with MJ, as Shaq couldnt shoot free throws..end of this conversation, and yes the bulls were to cheap for trillion dollar shaq
8:08 THANK YOUUUUU…someone had to say it. kobe is so overrated in the history of the nba and his fanboys pretend he didn’t try to form his own super team in 2012 i think. not to mention he had SHAQ for 3 rings! most dominant player of all time in his prime. his fans gloss over all of his glaring negatives. he also was a terrible teammate. he ran everybody off…like come on. lastly, the lakers were part of the most obviously rigged series of all time vs the Kings. kobe’s legacy isn’t all that.
Wilt has issues, grow old Wilt, Wilt taking advantage of Jordans respect for olders, fathers, cheap, Wilt is a cheap shot guy who at 70 has to still scream he can take ya??? insane, there is things i like about Wilt, like his effort and wanting to continue, but dont run over everyone and when you are old, stop saying you could or can take Jordan or whom ever, stop.....its ok to be great and retire, still be great, but we all have our time, let the other guys hqve their times, baby boomers just cant do that
shaq was the start of it all, he wanted super stars and made and picked superstars to play with him, and feed him the ball in a great way, and mass money, he was never about basketball, shaq is a woke pile of crap, and he loves Lebron, played with Lebron, what a joke
I dont think MJ and Shaq would have worked out in the long run. Shaq is an irritating, insecure goofball that played bully-ball and generally liked to slack off at times. MJ would not have stood for that and they would have had fights. With Rodman it was different, yeah he was unpredictable, but he didn't have an ego, he was eccentric, he was hard to tame, but he worked his ass off and MJ respected that. Shaq would have his insecurities showing waaaay earlier with MJ calling him out in practice. Shaq would have been out of Chicago in a flash. Maybe MJ was motivated to play harder by having shitty big men around him, hell if your best big man iduring your 16 year career s Oakley, then oh my fn god. but again, maybe MJ needed that to succeed. I know Skap would hate me for this, but Kobe is overrated, he's not top 25, just cause of what you said AOH, if he couldn't win every year having guys like Shaq, Eddie Jones, Fisher, Campbell, Russell, etc, he should NOT be mentioned in the same breath as MJ as far cometitiveness is concerned. I personally never liked him as a player, yeah he was well spoken, articulate, intelligent, but yeah, ego, etc.
shaq couldnt handle feeling he was in Kobe's shadow, how could.he handle being in MJ's massive shadow, remember Jordan was the very most popular person ever in the world, shaq was nothing vs mj
says the guy who joined the next best guy kobe, and later to wade in miami and a stacked boston and cavaliers with lebum, yeah like he didnt chased rings like lebum. and he talks shit to evferyone but he is a hypocrite. i used to like the guy but he became more stupid each passing day, not like he was a genius to start with. he is a whiny big baby you didnt see it much bcs not many ppl could match up with him but you could see the frustration when he is against soemone of his caliber, he started to break down at that times like against yao ming or hakeem or anyone he couldnt bully. and also he is a hypocrite on kobe too the guy talks shit to everyone until he got scolded by someone with power or status or fear of backlash. like yao ming situation or how he turned 180 after kobes death.
You’re right about his ring chasing post-Lakers but, he joined the Lakers for the money. Which you could argue is actually a worse reason. I mean, I think Kobe was part of Jerry West’s pitch, bc he thought really highly of Kobe (obviously) when they drafted him. But he was still an 18yr old investment that might not pan out. And Kobe and him did bury the hatchet before Kobe died. Shaq admitted he was a lazy PoS and also that he threw shit around his living room when Kobe won his 5th and they laughed about it. I’m not saying you should like Shaq or anything, just that you’re being a little unfair to him in a few aspects of what you said
@@MrKurtykurt for the start thnx for the appropriate and nice way of commenting/replying and telling your mind the way you did.. yeah lakers signing is kinda complicated and hardaway was injury prone and the franchise had no future at least he tried im not taking that from him. but later in his career and the words he speak the way he judge ppl and him being a hypocrite dancing to the tune and not being able to stand behind his words is kinda annoying. be the badass you are like mike and kobe etc. or be sensisble dont change direction according to where the wind blows you know. and as i said he was a bully and was enjoyin it until someone teaches his place to him and then he became a sour loser leashing out crying.
