Game looks amazing, voice acting kinda hurts ngl. I think if no one played the original it can work. I hope they have an option that can switch it to original voices.
By trying to make the voice acting more authentic, they ironically made it that much worse. There were definitely come misses in the classics (Looking at you, General) but there were WAY more hits. That first cutscene with Arkantos and Krios perfectly captured the urgency of a city being invaded by pirates.
Hey BoIt, really enjoyed watching this. I play AoM on an older laptop without much of a graphics card, do you know if they retold needs much higher system requirements? thanks
The new voices are not inherently bad, but they could do better with more emotion into their lines. Although some people find it cheesy, having the voice actors over deliver on their lines allows them to paint a picture of how each character feels.
The problem is they did it with the intention of making it more authentic to the culture. And while’s many would agree the intention is not a bad thing, when you focus on that it usually comes at the expense of everything else.
I honestly really wouldn't mind if they added a higher difficulty level for the campaign. If the skirmish AI can go abouve Titan - surely the campaign can too - titan didn't offer much challenge in EE and neither does it here from what we were able to play so far ^^
Terminology has been downgraded in the the skirmish AI, the formula goes: - Titan (+0% handicap) = old Hard - Extreme (+50% handicap) = new interstage between old Hard and old Titan - Legendary (+100% handicap) = old Titan Although the new AI overall behaves *slightly* more intelligent, so the new version feels a little bit tougher than its old pendant. The campaign feels more difficult than before not because of handicap, but because *for every mission* they manually adjusted the *rules* per difficulty tier. So for example the higher the difficulty, the more unit spawn, more frequent attacks, more upgrades already researched, etc. Adding more handicap won't help in a lot of missions (where AI has no economy). They would have to manually add rules for another difficulty tier, which is probably not worth the effort because whoever is that good at the game prefers other challenges than campaign.
@@ikosaeder20 I will have to disagree with the last sentence there. Channels like GiantGrantGames - whose video on AoM has affected parts of Retold - are great proof that not only there's people of high skill who prefer campaign content and there's a big audience watching them. I myself do not interact with PvP at all. I play the campaign and custom maps if there are any. Spend hundreds if not thousands of hours playing RTS campaigns over and over and over again
@@ikosaeder20 They have also changed many maps, removed extra town centers in one of the first ones etc. So perhaps it will still be fun and a bit different but familiar. But you should go to the forums Rancor and suggest another difficulty setting. They are taking feedback and are planning to support this long term. So maybe they will consider it for those who needs that extra difficulty. I mostly play campaign myself and I think more options would only be beneficial.
I sincerely hope they will give us the option to put in the original voice lines at some point. I also want to enable the original god portraits. No need for AI art, when there is amazing handdrawn stuff to be had already.
oh god, the voice acting! It's not the accent, it's the tone! Athena is now just a random woman. The original voice was 100% immersive and befitting of a goddess. I mean it can work, but why the downgrade from perfection
@@Thiccoman depends on which one you're getting. I recommend you start with the OG series first and not the reboot. The old ones are mostly hack n slash while the new are mostly story/narrative driven as with most AAA PS titles in recent times. So also depends on what genre you prefer but I'd still recommend you play the originals first.
Im all for new voice work but this definitely needs some work. I will say it didnt help that they left the original Athena in then changed her, I got excited they just reused the old lines lol I can't wait to hear and even worse version of "Its Kastor son of Arkantos"
The new voices feel phoned in, like the voice actors weren't talking to each other but just reading off a script and they used the first take. Also still no opinion from you on the AI art for the god portraits, I feel like creators need to be harsher about that. There is no excuse for AI garbage in a game.
All i'm gonna say for this beta, is that the hearth(the gameplay), the body(the graphics) are there, but the soul( the voice acting) is so lost/gone. I really hope this is some a.i for betas sake and change it in the future, because when i heard arkantos butchering Kamos's name i couldn't believe it, and i really hope is not that they want to keep a lore accurate accent for a "more immersive" experience. The voice acting is so off that it i believe the voice actors( if they are real) didn't even looked at the original voice lines to have an impression
If the delivery being bad on the voice lines wasn't enough, they don't even sound Greek a lot of the time. Odysseus literally says proseke instead of proseche which is literally how they say it in Greek. Like, what even is the idea they had with the voice acting? I have no idea. It literally doesn't work no matter how you look at it.
I hope they add a whole new campaign. this feels like just another reskin to me and as I play AOM mostly in single player, the extra cost of getting the game seems to not be worth it for me so far :(
@@Sone01TheFirst They did not copy it, they made every model, texture and animation from scratch. So you pay some bucks for the graphics upgrade, and also for some cool changes that make god powers and myth units more impactful.
@@ikosaeder20 I talked about changes to gameplay. When I said "even if they just copied and pasted it" I meant the actual campaign, from unit placement to triggers. Also please note the *IF,* I've already noticed changes to the campaign such as the position of the Trojan Docks or the lack of a TC in mission 1.
Given that atlanteans are available at launch, its likely that the atlantean campaign will be available at launch too. Given how they set up the main screen with its own section for campaign, it seems reasonable that they would go with the aoe2de mindset where any new pantheons would include a corresponding campaign We know that they're redoing the chinese pantheon so it also seems likely that they'll redo that campaign as well, maybe in the vein of a journey to the west style campaign
I'm glad they changed some pronounciations (Kamos instead of Keymos) but other than that the voice acting is this game's weakest point, but I'm glad they made them act out the Greek accent!
Agamemnon is the only new good VA but I think it's pushing it to call these new VA AI slope. It's obvious that they wanted to have a more accurate accent which I do understand but they should've expect the community to not welcome these new VAs because this is what happened in AoE2 DE
you realize, the originals put more emotion into there work than the new ones did right? thats mean dude. plus, they are cutting each otehr off in teh cutscenes. thats not very good way to handle voice direcion. which questions the va work.
I really don't get how giving the characters a greek accent is supposed to make it better, it makes no sense for them to speak english in first place, why do the accent thingy.
It's an entire remake. The game has been remastered before, and now there will be a whole revamp from the ground up with new assets and voice acting. My hope is, even the story campaign is changed somewhat, or the numerous expansions are integrated with one another more cohesively.
Looks like they got some random college interns doing the voice acting. How can any professionals be this poor? Impossible. Flat robotic voices, no tone of delivery at all.
I have a suspicion they will. Stupider decisions have gone through due to the “we need to have Greeks voicing Greeks otherwise you’re a bigot” mentality.
The game looks awesome. I don't understand all the nitpicking. The voice actors are good, the characters look great. I don't understand the hate, it doesn't have to be exactly the same. Some voices are worse, like ajax and some are even better!
@@BoitTV Yeah, that's understandable. I don't think you were too negative either, but I read some comments that exaggerate imo, "It hurts to listen to".
Pretty simple to just give us an option to have the old voice lines back...I can see that the voice lines are definetly rushed for the beta...and they might be better on official release, but come on, they should take the L and the critics to make it better, and also just add the option
It's a remake and there's no need to fix what isn't broke. Improvements? Sure. But then make sure they're actually improvements, not half assed and soulless.
