I don’t understand the hate, this is game of my childhood and I spent hundreds of hours back then and in extended edition, and I really like what retold looks like
I love AoM. But hearing these interviewers be like "WOW, OMG. THATS INCREDIBLE" when they are talking about assigning villagers to chop wood a slightly different way has me eye rolling though..
@@SolitaryLarkexactly this. We shouldn't take this interview as a base to form our opinions. What I think Retold team wants to do is grab lots of new players unfamiliar with the game or RTS genre even, so they hype up everything
The only nitpick i have is the lack of blood/skeletons from dead bodies. If a 22 year old game can get a T rating and still have that, why not a remake of it in 2024? I know Empires 4 also didn't have that, and apparently none of the definitive editions do either (so they're not really definitive if they're missing some esthetics)
@@marjiman_rts yeah, aoe 1, 2, aom and aoe 3 all had blood and skeletons originally. Aoe 4 and the definitive editions of the previous titles do not. Aom extended edition also has it, but retold apparently won’t. Hopefully it can be modded in if they don’t add it.
Why did I watch this? Now I'm feeling sooo tempted to buy it 😅 AOM was my first RTS, back when I was 12. I still remember the hype for The Titans, I used to visit the old website so many times...
I honestly like what I have been seeing and hearing so far. We will have to see how the godpowers are going to be balanced because we will be able to reuse them. Glad to see the game finally returning after all this time!
finally, i always wished for actual cd's on god powers. being able to use them one single time only was frustrating af because you always hesitate to use em 😭
I'm a bit worried that recharging spells might ruin the gameplay. They were extremely powerful. I hope it won't be too easy to recharge them and that it will come at a cost. But it looks great, and I got the premium version as soon as it was available.
They say never preorder. But premium version got stuff and most of them will buy it. I don't like rechargeable God powers either. Only upto classical age God powers should be rechargeable only till. If the earthquake gets recharged.. and someone hits mythic age quick and spams eq. We shall see.
@@marjiman_rts recharges will be interesting and a test for devs on future patches. Adding more elements to a game can be tricky but can be also a tool to help with original god powers that were a bit too weak
I like the idea of rechargeable godpowers. It gives more dynamics. It keeps the economy important. Now you have something to spent excessive resources on. You just have to make it more expensive.
i would have liked unit redesigns. and i hope they will update continuously so that we perhaps get new units or maybe even new civs with their own mythological units. then this game would be a masterpiece for me.
Been playing this game ever since I was a small kid. I'm happy to see it streamlined and simplified for newcomers, the macro and micro can be a bit intense sometimes in the old AoM especially in higher levels of play. With the new powers being rechargable I have a feeling Isis will become S tier God since she blocks them entirely if you build a monument.
This looks and feels phenomenal to play. Only thing im scared of are devs patching game every month, balancing it and changing it all the time...CANNOT WAIT !
In the beginning that will be the case. Unless they release it directly according to the current patch. People will complain and changes will be made. Had a lot of experience if this kind during other releases.
It needs realistic graphics and interaction with the map, online mode with solo and duo or team rankings and bronze, silver, gold, etc ..., championships, this generates excitement and competition and the public, box system with rare skins and market on web3 for example.
@@MrBizon91 I was sharing an opinion. They obviously will try to do best for themselves. But it doesn't hurts us in any way. Although, had they shown arkantos from extended edition. I would have laughed at the new model face expression.
Looks really good! I am just disappointed that the crocs seem be over(unaliving) targets, spreading ranged attacks have been present in RTS for a while now.
It can be good even for pc version if you will play againt xbox player. This option may even apply to Titans and god powers, such as disabling the recharge of god powers. We'll see. I think it is quite common to play games with gamepads even on PC, and there is also the possibility to use a mouse and keyboard on Xbox.
When they came to the part where they compared the old vs new version of building destruction and stuff talking about the particle effects and smoke and what not i was lile neat but is there a way to turn that off so itll run smoother on my machine XD
I was hoping for multi player campaign if possible damn I want to see a campaign where your allies and you will be able to send resources to one another But this game looks amazing anyways, i will pre order for it
Honestly I'd prefer if they did the remake on the Age of Empires 4 engine. Much better looking, far more up to date. Despite the improvements, AoM Retold still looks old.
100% disagree...im so happy that they used the far more detailed AOE 3 DE Engine as a base. Age 4 has cartoonish graphics, lack of detail, clunky cliffs and environment and the water is a joke. Besides these things, the modding support for AOE 4 Engine is almost not available due to engine limitations and specific parameteres in coding.
@@BabaYaga-RTS it is true. Aoe 4 barely has any mod support. It's just a hyper competitive game. I like it that way. It needs not be like other aoe games
To be honest, I don't see much difference in this gameplay from original HD version. If anything this is not a bit improvement as it looked it will be... please do this one right. Improve graphics and units (their reactions, controls movement and etc.)
By no means HD version is bad. But when it comes to models, lightning , sharpness, and clearly the next gen feel. Retold is better. Although many will argue about the next gen thing.
@@marjiman_rts To be honest, old one is better for many because of nostalgy. But I was expecting new one to have better graphics, hud and icons for units that are been made too. I know it's beta version, but please do better work than this one. It looks exactly like when we got Stronghold 2 after a Stronghold Crusader and it was total disappointment.
@@Kerchock well if it's 2024 I want a game to live up to it's geaphical and NPC possibilities, not to play something that has 2010 graphics and NPCs acting like in C&C Generals....
Looks good. I have one major dislike though. The UI. It take waaay too much of a screen. Why do I need that huge III? Or tasks? Or bottom part just taking everything when units are selected? I wish it would be more minimalistic or at least have an option to have classic UI
@@marjiman_rts i don't care what the vegans think or say :D...never bend the knee to a useless minority that basically don't have anything good to give to society
i am super hyped for game of my childhood remaster. i just hope it does not turn out same as warcraft 3 reforged...another childhood game turned to crap
Yes.Usually games launch with a casual ladder. Which means , there will be no rewards but there will be ranking. But ranking will not have tier such as platinum or diamond. Just 1,2,3.
Main feeling : meh. Looks pretty much like the usual Age of Mythology but embeded in the AoE 4 graphic engine.. which sucks in my opinion. I really do not like the cartoonish graphics. I also really hope the interface will look much different on the final version. This one, again, looks just like AoE4, so basically a modern / blend / boring interface, which is a SHAME for a game fully oriented on Antiquity / Mythologies. I haven't spotted any significant changees in mechanics or pathing either so far. Please make this better , especially if you are planning to ask 40 euros for it... From an AoM fan.
This is super nitpicky, but at 15:10, that is not what arkantos' and athena's faces should look like. Athena looks like she is 12 and arkantos looks like a sims character.
@@jaro551 Well yeah compared to the non cinematic 2002 model which is kind of a dishonest comparison. I just think its weird they decided to make him look like a mid-level business executive. He looks like he should be wearing a polo and carrying a day planner.
@@marjiman_rts everything ? A new aom would be awesome with modern graphics, not a already made remake of that ols game we already have extended edition
I don't see why it wouldn't. It looks like its gonna have auto economy. Actually many of these changes are "casual friendly" this is only gonna make the advanced players even better.
Rechargeable god spells.... That doesn't sound like a good decision to me and I have >500h in AOM. The reasoning behind this decision seems rather weird to me as well. I am worried the new meta will be to send some scout units and spawn an underworld passage or use an earthquake etc. I was hoping for the game to become more like a definitive edition instead of changing core gameplay mechanics, as the game was good in the first place and just needed some quality of life features and graphic upgrades to make it feel fresh. So far, I am really sceptical about the changes.
Its a cash grab, the updated graphics doesnt justify the price. And of course there would be DLS. They could have made a new game with the same theme, modern and upgradable engine.
trust me. you can just get base game first if you short on money and upgrade later. Its not a cash grab. But if you don't like new graphics. No reason to buy. You can wait until you feel like to.
honestly 30 euro is completly fair price for the work they did, they said that they are gonna add more features, mechanicsand all sort of stuff, and I think 30 euro is amazing compared to how most games are being for sold for like 70+ euro, hell Black Ops 6 is like 80 euro FOR THE STANDARD
What the hell. Technology and computer power have raised extremly, but they still do not raise the population limit. WTF?! It's not fun in the longer run, if you have a pop limit of 300... sad :-(
Sorry, but are you all insane? AoM was released in 2002! And back in the day, the Pop limit was around 325, if you had all town centers. And now, 22 years later, they can't go much higher. I mean, what the hell?! 22 years passed, technology advanced and the pop limit stays that low? What a joke. Even my smartphone could run the first AoM...
@@dasmaasmannchen8028 It's not about what rigs can perform, it's what you would want to happen. Indeed, tactical choices of selecting which units you pick. Bigger pop limit will change the game substantially.
