The new Aorus 17X version fixes most of my complaints in this review, check it out next: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7Eq503o6LEc.html
hello, i have aorus17 ye5 and i have some question ,the 3080ti GPU in game whatever which performance profile in gigabyte control center won't get to 130watts,only about 110watts ,and even turn the gigabyte AI GPU boost off to NVIDIA dynamic boost in gaming mode, won't work, even worst ,3080ti down to only 90watts,how to fix it?
Very good review, very thorough, and unlike the bulk of review channels these days, this is clearly not sponsored as it accurately mentions all the negatives (unless you're sponsored by an opposing brand, lol..). I just bought the 3070ti myself, glad to see it nearly matches up with the 3080ti. Also happy to see that it's ventilation and heat dissipation is up to par. My last gaming laptop I bought over 15 years ago, and the thing ran so hot, that the CPU ended up literally melting to the motherboard.
haha, i'm currenly running a 2018 acer nitro and the cpu also melted once, I had to replace the cpu and the fans as they were clogging very often. I think it's about time I should upgrade huh. No point in waiting for the 40 series otherwise I will be waiting forever lol. p.s. as we speak, my laptop fan is now making weird noises, it knows xD
@@kiritodb-1472 Your CPU melted and you were still able to recover the laptop? Lucky.. when mine melted, it literally melted to the motherboard. I'd taken it in to a computer shop to get it looked at and they told me it was toast. I don't generally go to techies for anything, since I've been building my own PCs since I was 17ish, and I'm 42 now. But laptops were a whole new thing to me at the time. I probably didn't even have the right screwdrivers to open it up. I had to buy a special screwdriver set intended for smartphone and tablet repair in order to open this one so I could upgrade the RAM. And on that note, don't attempt to open your smartphone without at least looking up a video on how to do it first. I decided to open my old smartphone to see if I could swap the battery in it, and despite how careful I was with it, the screen broke. That screen under the hard translucent cover, is more fragile than antique china.. IDK if it's even possible to open some smartphones without breaking the screen.. though I'm sure they're made that way by design, so when the battery inevitably goes, you're forced to either pay for expensive service to replace the battery, or buy a new phone.
No matter what you buy there is already something “better” in the pipeline. Be happy with what you have. Because more often than not any game out there can be played on what you buy new so when these Uber fast cards come into existence there,s really nothing out there that needs it. This is unnecessary problem of all tech. I just bought a Lenovo Legion 5. It has the RTX 3060. But “only” the Ryzen 5 5800H. Of course I’d like a RYZEN 7 with a 3080 but you know what? I’m happy. Best $1000 I ever spent.
What is the alternative? You can obviously disable it in device manager, but that isn't the same thing as using a mux switch. It was discussed in my Q&A video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qp9oSFnkXdg.html
Hi Jarrod, in your opinion, what is the best 17 inch laptop for gaming today? (less than $ 2,000 or slightly higher, with particular attention to the display and temperatures). Thanks
Jarrod hope you're reading this, Can you please do a review on the 2023 Aorus 17h model ? It is currently one of the cheapest 4080 laptop out there at the moment and I would love to know if they have fixed some major issues you talked about here on 17h
Hi there love the review . I heard most gaming laptops get fried do you hearing . What gaming laptop do you recommend and should I get a cooling system. ??
This one was close except for the power limit even in non gpu mode, which kills it for multi core productive work (I mean my legion 7i with 11800H is within margin of error CB23 behind) and the total 3 usb which is crazy for a 17" laptop. Still will be a nice machine for many. Cool it has adaptive sync and such great latencymon also.
hey there at 1:34 you said the laptop does have type-c charging support... i bought this laptop with that in mind. But when i plug in any usb c charger (mac, nintendow switch ect) it does not charge the laptop... am i doing it wrong or was your review wrong? i have the YE5 17 2022 version (3080TI)
Hello. I am writing through a translator. Can you tell me which laptop is better for gaming? 1)GIGABYTE AORUS 15 XE4-73DEB14SH 2)MSI GP66 Leopard 11UH-673 Interested in performance, convenience and screen quality (colors, brightness, speed). Can they both charge from a car charger?
Y DON'T you put the whole list of the devices you reviewed while comparing THE performance latency ,fps...etc? to let the viewers know where they're standing...! appreciate your content....GL🎈🎈
Gigabyte never seems to find the right balance of specs, build and performance. I still can't get over how they put a 60 Hz 4K OLED screen in a laptop with an 80W 3080. A 120 Hz 1440p screen would've been far more preferable, and obviously if you're dropping to 80W there's no reason to get a 3080 at all.
Just want to say thx you a lot for all your work. Too bad I don't have a money to buy a new one. But I can't wait to see comparison between Lenovo Legion 7i 3070 TI 2022 Vs Asus Strix Scar 17 3070 Ti 2022 Hope both to have same Intel processor and GPU. Please make it happen!
This laptop is more or less trash. A 1080p screen with powerful components means a solid laptop for esports games, but when the screen response time is slow the laptop is total trash unless you connect an external display. Do not buy this.
I was also extremely interested in the X17 R2 but ended liking the razer 17 more followed by the GE76. I would advise you wait for the GT77 titan before making your final decision.
Hey Jarrod, for your cyberpunk benchmarking in 2022, are you using the in-game benchmark or something else? Just want to know how comparable my results are.
@@JarrodsTech is it near the start where you get in the car with Jackie and the game drives you through the city? I think that was commonly used before the in game benchmark came in. Also, FYI, I just got a Legion 5i (non pro) 12700h 3070ti 140W TGP, as I used the in game benchmark it was posting higher results than your benchmark for the Legion 5i Pro using the same settings, which suggests the in game benchmark posts higher results than benchmarking your section of the game. That was true in FHD (which was unexpected) as well as QHD (which was expected, since the non-pro at 1440p has 10% less pixels to render).
As an owner of the gigabyte aero 15v8 i.e. cousin to the Aurous line , this is unfortunately the normal strange niggles gigabyte laptops have for some reason
Help I was about to buy a laptop and you have two options for a laptop with i7 11 processor and rtx 3050ti. Or an i5 10 and rtx 3060 processor, what do you advise me?
Does the cooling pad really work or would it be the same if you turned off the fans too? I have a laptop stand which works ok for the most part and i am wondering if i could lower the temps even further if it had fans
Nah. the fans not really effective , so the laptop stand is a more than enough you can also add the vacuum cooler on the exhaust if u want lowered the temperature
Jarrod has done a vid comparing laptop stand Vs several cooling pads quite a long time ago, basically the fans of a cooling pad can decrease temperatures of a laptop by like 3-4 degrees celsius (perhaps a bit more or a bit less it depends on the laptop's cooling design) since the density of air beneath the laptop would be slightly higher than not having the fans present, but it's most likely that you're already seeing most of the benefit of a laptop cooling pad with just a laptop stand
Hello, i have been using the XE4 for 10 days now. And i am noticing the same battery overnight drain issue. It has been 10 days, and still not fixed. Did you do anything specific to fix that issue? Or has it been fixed randomly? Please i need your advice. I actually do not want to RMA, but i can still RMA and get my money back.
Can someone please help me.. I’m looking at buying second hand 17g yd Rtx 3080 max Q laptop purely for mw2 and I wanna know am I getting above 144hz with this machine? Some contradictions in the comments about 60hz etc
Why can't every gaming laptop or laptops in general put most of thier ports in the back? Who the f@#$ wants cables protruding from the sides like a ponytail??
Just putting this out there to future laptop owners. If the desktop 4080 card is really gonna be a ~400w card, you can expect a major performance gimp with the laptop 4080. The 4070 is gonna be a 350w card. The 4060 will probably be a 300w card. The laptop 4080 will probably perform worse than a desktop 4060 with its paltry 150w-175w power limit.
what exactly are you saying? Its like that currently, a desktop 3060ti is better than a 3080.....so im a bit confused, are you saying the difference will be bigger?
I would stay away from gigabyte as I would from the black plague !!! worst customer support they just flat-out ignore you......Aorus series guarantees no bad pixels, my pc came with 3 bad pixels out of the box they don't replace they just repair and send back !! if you value your cash stay away from this accursed brand !!!!!!!!!!!!! been waiting over 1.5 month yet never got my pc. image how pissed you will be if you were in my shoes honestly guys gigabyte is a horror story not to mentioned the software if I was drunk I would program a better version , my 5 years asus still working not a single bad pixel, YOU HAVE BEEN WARRNED.
3080ti is not a waste on a 360hz display. Stop talking shit. Way better than having those stupid 4k or 1440p display with high refresh rate but your card can only do 100fps. I would love to see more 17" 3080 ti with 1920x1200 displays.
Gaming is one of the main things that benefit from a mux switch. More info on this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6mWies_4oDs.html
He already reviewed the same chasis like 2 years ago with one of those metabox models that had last gen specs. It’s not great at all, the 3060 is only 105w, it does not get mux switch and have a pathetic 57wh battery that lasts maybe an hour with intel 10th gen.
Not just that. By having a 1080p 360Hz screen Gigabyte is trying to get the esport people to buy it, so why the f*ck do they implement a screen that is so freaking slow in response times that it does not fit esport gaming?

actually it's hard to find a laptop with those, except for the legions. But it's not a big deal, only in few games make a big difference. But yeah at that price range a laptop should have that feature
"actually it's hard to find a laptop with those, except for the legions." Asus, Lenovo, HP, Dell, and MSI's gaming and workstation laptops all have MUX switches. "But it's not a big deal, only in few games make a big difference." MUX is not JUST about gaming. Nvidia Optimus (switchable graphics) on performance laptops is a cause for lots of issues including battery drain and external display connections. A hardware MUX switch or Nvidia Advanced Optimus / AMD SmartShift Max (which includes MUX) automatically fixes these issues.
As an Aorus laptop user, it's so dissapointing they reduced USB Type -A to 2. For my daily requirement, 3x USB type A is all needed. I am curious when Gigabyte will add PD support? I thought my 11th gen laptop has, but in the end nope. Fine, but still not support on Aorus 15 and 17 (12th gen). And still no Mux switch support , which is very sad. They do really need to change the power connector position. It's really badly deisgned to let your cable takes heat waste from laptop itself lol. I was wondering if I will get next Aorus laptop... I'll think about it :O
I agree. I also was extremely disappointed with the new 17x. The new 17x isn't a 17x at all its just a 17 with high specs. Unfortunate the the actual 17x may never return again.
Bought last years 2021 Aorus 15P. Not my first option, I was actually waiting for the legion 5, couldn't find one. The issue came when looking at data about the Aorus 15p at some places it said that it did come with a mux switch at other places it said it didnt. After it arrived i Couldn't find it anywhere even within the bios. It performed well as most of my gaming was Apex and FH. 9 months later the display randomly died while it was just sitting in the home screen. Sent it to Gigabyte and the RMA took about 2 weeks. Its working well but with 3 months left of warranty i was left with a very unpleasant taste on what i hoped would last me 5-6 years.
