To adress some confusion: I am an end user that shares their thoughts and experiences with gear I buy to use myself. I do not have experience with as large a variety of products as tech youtubers. It's for this reason I decided to add the word "customer" before the word review. Please only use my feedback on the product as a substitute to reviewers that can give you a wider view of the current market. Oh I also make 0 money doing this.

@Koutsn_ does the OLED really have a 3D effect on games? 3D as-in it's like the models are physically there in front of you and the panel is like a window into that "plane"? Or does it just look like a sharper image compared to other panels, all things like colors and contrast, brightness aside? I'm asking because I'm hearing conflicting opinions from people online that have OLED displays. Some insist that OLED gives graphics a "3D pop" as if they're coming out of the monitor, while others just say it's the same image, just better colors and quality on the "2D/flat" output.
@Koutsn_
@Koutsn_ 3 месяца назад
If you think 3D pop will make it look like an actual 3D image you'll be disappointed, all 3D pop describes from my experience with photography is how easy it is to tell that there's meant to be depth in the scene. The micro contrast of especially glossy OLED screens can help this effect. All of our brains process visual information vastly differently(Think of the ¨blue black white gold dress¨) so this may appear like a 3D effect to some people. But at the end of the day it really effectively describes how easy it is to separate a subject from the background and will depend a lot on the colour grading. If a game does not have an overly washed out grading through raised black levels I've found OLED better than LCD in this regard, but a decent CRT is still a step above OLED.

by the way with micro contrast I meant local contrast, micro contrast would be more of the descriptor of what displaying an HDR signal does to the darks(having more detail/small bits of contrasting elements due to having more shades of grey to work with)

@@Koutsn_ I'd say a little bit of everything. - A little bit of gaming, although I don't play too competitively. - Definitely a fair amount of productivity with word processing, web browsing and coding. - Digital art is also my hobby, so colour accuracy would be nice. I haven't owned a lot of monitors and have never tried anything above 60hz so I do feel a bit of fomo. However, I'm planning on going in person to test a couple of different monitors in store so I'll see what features really stands out to me vs just marketing. Yes unfortunately all display technologies can have flicker issues when implemented badly. As for the oled VRR flicker, it should only happen in dark scenes with inconsistent frametimes. @Koutsn_
@Koutsn_ Месяц назад
these seem like 2 questions, so let me just answer you like this, 1: yes the panel I have looks a lot better than any IPS I ever used, the main reason for it is the contrast and local contrast possible on OLED 2: it's not just the vibrant colours, I use my displays with an sRGB gammut clamp most of the times, which eliminates that difference compared to good IPS. I will add that the HDR capabilities of this OLED are ofc a significant improvement over conventionally backlit IPS.

@Koutsn_

Great that you don't need more than 120 nits of brightness, but that's personal preference in case of content consumption. As for the HDMI, in hindsight I did not test the HDMI 2.0 mode instead of the HDMI 2.1 mode that it defaults to, 2.0 did not support DSC yet so that may indeed disable it.

@haewymetal 3 месяца назад
@@Koutsn_ But the thing is, it shouldnt be personal preference. If you need such high brightness you shouldnt buy an OLED in the first place (higher chance of burn in with higher nits) 120 cd/m2 has been the calibration standard for decades. For normal usage. Office usage is between 140-160cd/m2 which is more than enough. And offices have big bright fluorescent lights (possibly LED now) If you need more youre just a user that refuses to spend 10 minutes adjusting your eyes to it.

"If you need such high brightness you shouldnt buy an OLED in the first place" Yeah, saying that it's not as bright as LCD is literally a warning not to buy OLED if you need that brightness. I do run 100 nits for productivity, but higher brightness in competitive games is important as higher brightness has an association with increasing alertness and cognitive performance. so for gaming higher brightness is important.

@@Koutsn_ 99% of the thing you said are features or specs: light brightness? It is a specs you can read. Screen shift? It is a specs against burn in (which you can disable) VRR flicker? Most manufacturers claims to have an anti flicker solution so is a secret? And to mitigate it you can just enable v-sync and 90% of the issue disappear. Grey reflection on qd-oled is technology dependent and public explained by Samsung as well as for color fringing. This is not a review it looks like someone who regret too late for a return about its purchase. Maybe because something new come out. All the cons are basically minor, and the most absurd is the brightness. I am so tired to read about people who want 1000 nits on full screen constantly. If you really want that just look at lamp. @IcaniCorrono 22 дня назад
@@Koutsn_ I had OLED tvs and monitors for years now, I used then in daily based. I had never seen a buggy pixelshift. Still issue can happen but a bug it is not something that should claimed like a general issue of all OLED. Is more likely correlated with a specific model or even single monitor. Even the bending is panel specific and usually improves with pixel refresh and usage. Moreover is something you have actively looking for. Still a fair point to mention. The clarity, the response time, the black level and the hdr performance are mind blowing in an OLED compared with LCD, even whit miniled. There is a misconception that hdr mean super bright. It means high dynamic range. A mini led cannot achieve low dark details without blooming. And is very unlikely to have a 100% screen scene of full brightness. And OLED in small area 10/20% can reach high peak brightness, which is what really matter in HDR. A full 1400 nits 100% screen is just too much and make sense only if you use it outside in the equator with the sun behind the monitor, which I guess is not the standard use case for which a monitor is developed. It is worth to mention that pixel shift is present even in LCD panel nowadays especially in bussiness model. Guess why? For image retention, someone (reviewer) has never talk about image retention on LCD? No, but the fear of such issue in OLED is extreme for no reason. I changed 3 IPS panel for bad image retention and zero OLED. But I do not make video claiming that LCD has issue no one told you.

both technologies have their pros and cons, it may very well be shit for your specific use case.

Do you have a bad unit? Especially with the start menu off the screen. I've had my fo27q3 for about a month and put just over 80 hours on it and everything has been flawless. I can't speak for the VRR flickering because I haven't noticed it (or any flickering). The alt-tab thing is also puzzling as it has never happened to me. I play mostly WoW these days along with some single player games (Days Gone and RE4 right now). None of those have issues with alt-tab. System specs: Asrock x470 Taichi, 5950x, 32gb Ballistix, XFX 6900XT. Using some generic braided DP 1.4a cable from amazon. Win10 with VRR and HDR enabled

I personally do not believe this is a bad unit, VRR flicker is one of those things that mainly occurs in darker content with inconsistent frametimes and happens on most oleds(Source: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1_ZMmMWi_yA.html ) The blackscreen alt tab issue is Nvidia GPU specific and I stated so in the video.

By the way, I actually want to thank you for confirming that the black screens do not occur on AMD cards like what people said, we are both a sample size of 1, but it's still useful.

@@Koutsn_ I can be a sample size of two since my other computer has a 6800xt reference model. Also no issues with that one (aorus b550i, 5600x). These cards have been great aside from maybe one problematic driver last fall (november maybe?). I don't update drivers to the latest version immediately--this 6900 is running 24.3.1 which works for everything I play. I think the driver problems are vastly overblown and maybe come from the 5700xt issues years ago. My next card will definitely be AMD as I could not care less about ray tracing.

Oh yeah the drivers definitely got a lot better from what I heard, hoping for the sake of everyone that AMD FSR will truly improve in quality as well

In order to get VRR flicker you have to enable VRR in the panel OSD itself aswell as play your games (by default anyways) in Fullscreen to even activate Gsync/Freesync. And for Nvidia you have an ADDITIONAL checkbox to enable in the control panel, something most people are unaware of entirely. And the flicker only occurs with higher refreshrates. So if you lower it to 120hz or 60hz it becomes way WAY less noticable (its still there however) vs 240 or 360hz (yes while using VRR)
