Great video! I would love to see a comparison video between an Aizu and Tajima.

At some point I will. For the next videos, I think they are going to be a bit more primer-ish like this where it is just talking about the stones and background. After I get that done for at least the stones I have, I will do some videos comparing both different stones as well as different hardness/fineness/etc. Thanks for viewing!

@@naturalwhetstones it’s a pity that you don’t have enough stones on the review :)

Where are such stones purchased? Is there reliable US sources, or are best results from Japan?

Hey Edward. Which one are you talking about specifically, the harder Kouzaki Aoto or a more standard Aoto? I can help to point you in the right direction when I know, but this is a place you can look over: naturalwhetstones.com/blade-sharpening/reputable-japanese-natural-stone-jnat-nagura-sellers/

@@naturalwhetstones …both if you don’t mind. Are there Aizu sources? I’m an intermediate whetstone user, mostly Naniwa grits, but I’ve become curious about natural stones. Should I stick with Naniwa 8,000 White, or pursue something you can recommend in a Japanese natural? I’m just focused on finishing, I’ll stick with Naniwa for coarse and moderate grits.

@@edwardrutledge2765 Kouzaki Aoto is very hard to find. Watanabe from the list may still have one, but overall, you really have to hunt for them. Buyee is your best bet, but if you do not know what you are looking for it can be very difficult. TBH, I am not sure it is worth your time (especially with people throwing the name around because it sells). Tanba/Tamba Aotos can be had for cheap off Buyee or from some sellers (Ikkyu, Carbon Knife Co, etc.) Aizu is also difficult to find. I have a western block selling on my eBay actually as I found a collection of Southern Aizu I bought out and the Westerns are being re-homed. Otherwise, you have to hunt around auction sites really. No vendor will have it in consistently due to stock unavailability (it is basically only second-hand market available at this point). As I said in the video someone is looking at re-opening some limited mining, but, TBD and it would be a long ways out.

@@naturalwhetstones …I really appreciate you spending this time with me. I’m not knowledgeable enough to hunt for what I’d like. Can you narrow things for me; a reliable online retailer or you mentioned your own eBay site? I think you have grasp of what I’d like (finishing stone), but the subtleties of natural whetstone hardness, strata, color, etc is way outside my grasp. I’m sharpening kitchen knives, not razors, if that helps, my knife inventory is mostly high carbon (blue, super aogami, white) steel, and I get satisfaction from old school sharpening methods. It’s hobby as much as necessity for me. Your kind guidance is appreciated.
