Imagine choppers hovering over a battlefield in WWII, laying down a base of fire, obliterating enemy positions, and ferrying reinforcements to breakthroughs and shipping out wounded, etc. This machine is a warfare game changer
@robertmaybeth3434
@robertmaybeth3434 3 года назад
Yet i find it ironic that every major war chopers have been deployed by a major power, in large numbers (so far there are only two, Vietnam and Afghanistan) neither side managed to achieve a victory, even though their enemy had none themselves. In theory they ought to be a complete game changer, but in fact they haven't been. All they've achieved is an increase in enemy casualties (increased loiter time vs aircraft) and a decrease in friendly KIA's (due to faster evacuation of wounded)
@Veldtian1

@@robertmaybeth3434 they're still not numerous enough, not cheap enough to deploy, not easy enough to pilot, still too vulnerable to ground fire, too mechanically complex, too slow and not stealthy enough. It was mentioned that one had to be careful of hitting things while flying at tree level. Not always...In a video of a Huey pilot in Vietnam, there was an occasion where in order to retrieve soldiers trapped in an ambush, he CUT a landing path multiple times by lowering his Huey into a bamboo field, shredding the bamboo. By the end of the rescue, the blades were toast. But he rescued a LOT of troops.

I flew in a Blackhawk doing "dirt sweeps" once. Pilot was a beautiful blonde CPT. Met her during flight brief before takeoff. That gal could fly! Talk about 'map of the earth', that pilot was awesome. We had great views of all ground area on the mountains we were skimming around! And the whole ride was like a cruise in a Cadillac. Smooth, not bumpy, and with the pilots grace in flight skills, fluid and non-distracting so we could focus on spotting ground troops et al. Loved that mission!

Probably the most interesting thing I have seen for a long time, excellent production and well done Tiff as narrator. I was a bit foolish at one point thinking maybe I could improve on some of these designs, then the Merlin and then the Comanche, someone did it already ! Then I realised how old this production is, how much have things moved on since ? It is time for an update and I for one wish to see it. Design, the battle ship grey and camouflage exteriors are long lived and tested, the interior however is bland , I have an idea that the interior should be much more distinctive and user friendly, use of colour to make areas more instantly recognisable and faster to get to, plus a more comfortable and pleasant place to work generally, I get it that these operators are highly trained and can most likely find controls with a blind fold on, however some ergonomics maybe an enhancement for sure. Your thoughts on this will be taken into consideration and appreciated.

I was at Ft. Rucker in 1975 when Sikorsky and BOEING were having the run-off to figure out who was going to produce what was then called a UTTAS. As we all now know (have for YEARS, I guess), Sikorsky won and produced the UH-60 Blackhawk which I flew in the early-mid 80's (and it was a HOOT!). It amazes me to still be seeing Blackhawks in service 45 or 66 years and many improvements & mods later. But then the HUEY was in service for DECADES too, so I guess I shouldn't be all THAT surprised!

Apache are Fierce Warriors during the early times of the "Not So United Anymore" States... because WHITE Man came and did their best to Slaughter the Tribal Nations... and it is STILL going on Today. Montana, Idaho, N. and S. Dakota, Washington State... Tribal girls and Women are disappearing every day... some bodies have been found, but Not All. Just a few months ago, Bill Gates bought 234,000 Acres of STOLEN Tribal Land from the Dept. of the Interior and BLM (Bureau of Land Management)... STOLEN Tribal Land in E. Washington State... he paid near $171M for it, and he will NOT comment on the transaction. Funny, he brags about everything else...

Tbh I'd be more concerned about an auto cannon. SSM's and SAM's deliver warnings when fired at you, you have a chance to evade and use countermeasures. An auto cannon tho, the first you know about it is often as not the holes its blown through your aircraft.

This is the best combat helicopter to date. the video was great, but not quite as good as up close and personal. our Vietnam group (B-2/5 Cav.) was invited to go to fort hood and see the AH-64 Apache it came a long way from the ones we had (the Cobra) helicopter in Vietnam. the helicopter was the game changer.

Great useful aircraft..unfortunately they must be easy to shoot down with various missiles.I feel these will be quickly replaced with drones or small hand held system like the stinger that can take out tanks and cost a lot less money and lest risk to crew.Helicopter’s are great for moving troops and rescue missions.Good for sea attacks on ships.

@joncampo1627
@joncampo1627 Год назад
@@martylucas8557 The Ah64 has 0 stealth capabilities. Even if it did, stealth doesn’t mean what you probably think. It’s like calling soft armor or even a plate carrier a “bulletproof vest”. There’s no such thing.
@StrongHarm
@StrongHarm Год назад
Vet who's seen it here. There are different kinds of stealth. The F-35 for instance, uses radar reflective angles and paint so radar can't see them until it's too late, and even if they do see them, they can't get a lock on them to shoot them. The AH-64 uses standoff distance (thus the Longbow name) and terrain masking techniques for stealth. They're not easy to shoot down because of tactics. For instance, the opening shots of Desert Storm were carried out by Apaches. They went deep into enemy territory undetected because they were flying low and putting hills and trees between them and the enemy.... then they destroyed Iraqi command and control and radar facilities. This allowed jets to join in the fun unimpeded and put some whoopass on aircraft sitting on the ground, parked vehicles like tanks, infrastructure like communications hubs, and troops... before they could even get into the fight. When an Apache can see over the trees with radar and advanced optics without exposing itself, and fire a hellfire missile from 10mi away, you're not going to have much of a chance to shoot it down. Concerning drones, there's a lot of stuff in movies that doesn't translate to the real world battlefield. For instance, fully autonomous combat drones are many years from reality. Remotely piloted vehicles are used for limited purposes, because all you really need to do to kill all of them at once is disrupt communications ... and that's not as difficult to do as one might think. What **is** a reality, is man-in-the-middle autonomy. For instance, an Apache Gunner will take over drone control near the objective and leverage it's sensors and weapons to clear that objective enough to fly in safely and really start the pounding. These machines are more complex and capable than most people realize, and the people who fly them are so well trained and competent that they're far more dangerous than the equipment itself... not that you'd be able to tell from Hollywood films that intentionally make us look incompetent... which I'll never understand.

If Apache is upgraded with one more utility of solar powering to reduce gas usage during day hours as back up, it would be an extreme arm 24/7 on watch! Though weigh would be compromised, it's service would mean no chance of enemy escape.. A 24 hr surveillance day n night!.. I LOVE APACHE, NEVER MESS WITH APACHE✌

Clearly dated (Commanche was cancelled in 2004) but nonetheless entertaining and informative. Interesting to see how convinced they were of the Commanche being revolutionary and the helicopter of all helicopters, but in 2021 most people won't know what you're talking about if you mention the Commanche helicopter. That said I am convinced that many of the advanced technologies and concepts that found their way into modern military helicopters come from the Commanche program.
