I finally move out! I'm moving to Seoul, South Korea. How much are these small apartments in Seoul? The concept of one room, officetel, and studio in Korea? How can you go apartment hunting? Real estate agency in Korea? How much are these apartments for 1 person? How do these small apartments look like? Tips and prices, checklist!

What is up with the high deposit in comparison to the lower rent? Is the deposit a security deposit you get back when you move out? In NYC the rent is crazy high but the security deposit is usually just one month’s rent and you get the deposit $ back when you move out as long as you didn’t wreck the place

Yes, you can get it back when the contract is over. Just in case, sometimes we use some insurance companies when the deposit is huge. For my case, it's cheaper compared to other places, so I didn't do it. In Korea, there is this concept Jeonsae, which means big amount of cash deposit and 0 rent. And the crazy thing is selling price is almost the same with this Jeonsae price. So it's really different here. If you are Korean, you can get a loan for the deposit but it's usually up to 80% of deposit if you are very lucky. So in my situation, the only option was this lol

to add to what jina said, i've heard that the high deposit for wolsae and stuff incase say like something happens like a pandemic and you are out of work or you can't pay your rent because something happened, you can use. your security deposit to cover it. i've also heard landlords will use huge deposits for investments. i will say, i think i prefer the high key deposit if that means my rent will be cheaper. i live in nj and the rent is getting as high as nyc and it's to a point people have to work 2-3 jobs just to pay rent.

@@susancatherine4569 yeah, i’m planning to move and have been looking into it and found that out. also found out from a korean friend to definitely make sure i go with a korean person who’s familiar with the housing market/real estate in korea to decrease the chances of getting scammed. but it is interesting when you look at how it is here. especially when you dive into the price of utilities and the monthly maintenance fee also added to your rent.

@@gen1130 honestly i don’t know, but i assume the same here because houses from what i’ve seen are also really expensive in korea and since the pandemic, the housing i’ve heard has gotten bad/increased.

Honestly, I think this video is absolutely wonderful and amazing for a number of reasons. People need to hear from motivated people like you to understand that no matter what their rhythm is, it's alright to live by it. I think this video is wonderful not only in terms of information but also some people will look at this and think "Hey it's alright if I move out later on in life, it's fine if I start small, if Jina can just at her pace then so can I." @@gabriellarivasm Honest mistake. East Asian denominations go by increments of 4 zeroes and not 3 like in the West. I deal with it all the time, and I still get confused when converting from dollars to won.

Honestly, an officetel is a dream for me. I bought my 3 bedroom apartment in my country, but I would dream to live in an officetel and give up all this ‘excessive space’ I have to space of living.

The big deposit is interesting. In Australia where I live if you rent a place it’s usually 2-4 times the rent that is put down as a deposit or as we call it the ‘bond’. The bond is then returned to you when you leave as long as the place is in good condition. If there’s any damage etc the bond is used to pay for it.

If I was renting in Seoul, I would look for a VERY good A/C unit. It gets so hot and humid and a good system is a MUST! The amount of deposit is unheard of in the US. The deposit in Korea, which is usually at least $10,000.

with that prices $500-$600 USD you can rent a Full house in Latinoamérica (in medium-poverty areas or regular places) In country like PR-Puerto Rico. and $400 or more less you can rent a big studio or a mini spacious apartment with bath and kitchen and 2 room). and often include all household goods except when they are houses (it would be rare for the house to have all that).

i like the number 5 is rent is almost but abit higher than the last one but the deposit is also the same it would be awesome if they put a counter for the kitchen to use as a table to eat or if you want to knead to bake a bread and wish they have a space for oven like a medium oven or evwn you can put on the counter like i suggest and a small balcony....

These deposits are insane. Normally here you pay first months rent and the security deposit is equal to that pay ent. And you get it ALL back if you leave the place the way you found it.

I think you should've gone with the big apartment with the grubby bathroom. Just get some hardcore cleaner-disinfectors and go to it with equally hardcore brushes. BTW ... northern exposure is not so bad in summer because in the afternoons the hot sun is on the opposite side of the building.

Great information 👌🏼 I wish you the best for the move. I have lived on 4 continents over three decades, had 13 moves and understand the importance of location - location, location, location. Jina, what is the minimum lease duration? Can a foreigner/tourist lease it for three months-6 months? Fully furnished? Is this possible? If so, which real estate agent or website would you recommend? I am thinking of going to Seoul for some medical appointments 😉and explore the country using Seoul as my ‘basecamp’. Thank you🙃DC

I hate heights. I don't like living on high floors. I don't like living where if I accidentally fall over the balcony, I can live. An apartment with 2 stories is just right for me, or a one story home. In one door and out the back door. I absolutely hate heights. I think living with parents is a very sweet thing to do. You can save up a lot of money that way. The deposit is so much, why not just pay for a small house with cash and add to it as you go along? The deposits there are highway robbery! Nice apartment or not. I couldn't stay where the sun does not shine in my house. The sun is LIFE! It feed the house plants and the people in the house or apartment.

Moving to norway, rent in 2nd hand. 13500 nok in monthly rent + 40500 nok in deposit for 25sqm 🙃 3.2 km from work. So I don’t think your alternatives were to extreme to be honest😂
