Well taking a peek inside this battery backup for multiple reasons. The batteries in it have failed. Also it has some rust on it from a roof leak. Luckily everything is clean inside. I don't recommend taking these units apart and working on them unless you are confident in what you are doing. Sadly the fan in this unit has issues, but everything else seems to be fine.

Yeah it is a pain. APC would rather people pay big bucks for a preassembled tray than have an affordable replacement option it seems.

this a 24V battery pack. you have two fuses, one for each series; i think that only the 3000VA model has a 48V battery pack

Use aluminum foil to discharge Caps - or look on the PCB for a 'discharge' jumper - good units sometimes have one for safety

Or better. Use an incandescent light bulb, also limits the current that way.

Usually I just let them sit with no batteries before I recycle them. Sometimes you can drain the caps by holding the power button down. Shorting them out works, but I get kinda jumpy with electrical sparks. 😅

I was hoping maybe you had some advice the 4 batteries that I have for the apc have all swelled and were unable to take the packs out any tips?

Generally speaking if the batteries swell your only option is to take apart the case. You may have to bend the metal framing to make room to slide the batteries out. I don't recommend doing it personally if you're not comfortable around high voltage and shock hazards. Also recommend safety gear like gloves and safety glasses if you do decide to try it.

The batteries are so expensive because of companies that obey OSHA rules. I have to replace (rebuild) some battery packs for our UPS's at a remote site and I have to get electricians involved because the battery packs are over 50v (72v). With replacement battery packs, I'd still need an electrician, but it would be 5 min.

Buy batteries and connect them yourself - $80 Buy a battery pack - $200-300 So the extra $120+ that they charge is just for for assembling the batteries in a pack. Nice.

Yup basically. I don't think the batteries they use are of higher quality either.

@@computersales Well, the batteries they use are of known quality. Same as they've used many times. I've done replacements and been disappointed in their life but later found a different brand that goes well. They are selling you their experience of better brands. And charging enough to cover their mistakes!
